In this runaway New York Times bestseller, a harrowing near-death experience brings together an English teacher and her student as they struggle to survive on a desert island.Sixteen-year-old T.J. Callahan has no desire to go anywhere. With his cancer in remission, all he wants is to get back to his normal life. But his parents insist that he spend the summer catching up on the school he missed … on the school he missed while he was sick.
Anna Emerson is a thirty-year-old English teacher who has been worn down by the cold Chicago winters and a relationship that’s going nowhere. To break up the monotony of everyday life, she jumps at the chance to spend the summer on a tropical island tutoring T.J.
Anna and T.J. board a private plane headed to the Callahans’ summer home, but as they fly over the Maldives’ twelve hundred islands, the unthinkable happens: their plane crashes in shark-infested waters. They make it to shore, but soon discover they’re stranded on an uninhabited island.
At first, their only thought is survival. But as the days turn to weeks, and then months, and as birthdays pass, the castaways must brave violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the worst threat of all—the possibility that T.J.’s cancer could return. With only each other for love and support, these two lost souls must come to terms with their situation and find compaionship in one another in the moments they need it most.

Omg, loved, loved, loved her book. Felt kind of lost after I finished it.
Predictable and unrealistic but still and entertaining read.
Loved this book! Could not put it down and I haven’t said that very often lately.
I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The writing style was a little different than I’m used to but I liked it.
I have finished it and I can’t put it down even though I had started reading the book “Grant” prior to this book. I started this book as a break but I couldn’t put it down. A very original survival tale that is also a story about the growing love and physical attaraction between a 30ish woman and a boy that has grown into manhood. Great story and …
Good read. Quick love story. I flew through the book and was happy with the ending. Cougar women will love it.
Loved this book. Excellent yarn about people shaped by events beyond their control. Read it!!!!
I LIKED THIS BOOK BUT IT WAS DIFFERENT. I REALLY LIKED THE CHARACTERS.
IT WAS FUN, BUT WOULDN’T BE FOR EVERYONE.
I enjoyed this book. Just had to keep reading. Plus, it was interesting to read how they survived, what they did next, etc. The story didn’t drag on about the island time in minute detail, which is good. I could see this becoming a movie.
I rally enjoyed this book !
I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did. It was well written, and I liked the alternating perspective with the chapters. Characters were believable and it was easy to identify with them (although the story line was pretty out there). I think the story would not suffer to remove references to specific years–I found that actually …
I really enjoyed this book. The whole time Anna and TJ were stranded on the island fighting for survival was wonderfully plotted. The dialog was witty and believable and the struggles they faced showed how the human spirit can find ways to survive in the most frightening conditions. As the years passed, you could see how the relationship between …
One of the best books I’ve read.
Beyond fantastic and the sequel rocks too!
I loved this book! The evolution of Anna and TJ’s relationship is nicely done. The story covers a lengthy time frame and the changes in their feelings from awkward friends trying to survive to lovers is very believable. I felt everything they were going through on and off the island. I can’t wait to read Unchartered.
On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves is incredible!
I truly didn’t know what to except diving in, other than my friend Nikki said it was a must read, and she was absolutely correct.
This book is a journey, and one you will find yourself completely immersed in.
Anna and T.J. are two characters that will stick with you for years to come.
5 …
I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read that moved through many years very quickly. The subject matter was handled with taste and care. T.J. and Anna were an unexpected couple that you route for the entire time in every way. Tracey gave a fresh twist to being stranded on an island and created a memorable love story like no other.
This beautifully crafted tale lured me in from the first page, and kept me completely captivated until the last, wow what a read! It was romantic, heartfelt, mildly sexy, and very emotional…be prepared for a serious case of the feels with this one! Highly recommend, it will make the perfect afternoon literary escape!
Sort of a Blue Lagoon with adults (well one adult) .It’s not totally predictable. I think it would be in the “Young Adult” category.
