In this runaway New York Times bestseller, a harrowing near-death experience brings together an English teacher and her student as they struggle to survive on a desert island.Sixteen-year-old T.J. Callahan has no desire to go anywhere. With his cancer in remission, all he wants is to get back to his normal life. But his parents insist that he spend the summer catching up on the school he missed … on the school he missed while he was sick.
Anna Emerson is a thirty-year-old English teacher who has been worn down by the cold Chicago winters and a relationship that’s going nowhere. To break up the monotony of everyday life, she jumps at the chance to spend the summer on a tropical island tutoring T.J.
Anna and T.J. board a private plane headed to the Callahans’ summer home, but as they fly over the Maldives’ twelve hundred islands, the unthinkable happens: their plane crashes in shark-infested waters. They make it to shore, but soon discover they’re stranded on an uninhabited island.
At first, their only thought is survival. But as the days turn to weeks, and then months, and as birthdays pass, the castaways must brave violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the worst threat of all—the possibility that T.J.’s cancer could return. With only each other for love and support, these two lost souls must come to terms with their situation and find compaionship in one another in the moments they need it most.

Great Read!
Very original. Enjoyed it.
Not too deep but good interaction between characters.
Super easy to read beach book.
A wonderful look inside the hearts of two very different people and how they deal with the unthinkable hardships thrown at them.
Interesting and original with a good ending.
Very interesting story!
very original you really care about the characters
I read this cover to cover: that is a pretty big endorsement.
I thought it was an interesting premise and the story and characters were kept me engaged. I thought the author needed to do more research on nutrition and disease to make the story more believable.
Wonderful story of survival under dire condition and real love story. Some of the plot devices are a teeny bit contrived but overall captures the reality of remote island survival.
Wasn’t sure about the storyline before I started, but I really loved this book and couldn’t put it down. Thought about it for days afterwards!!!! Great read, don’t miss out
Once I started reading ,wasn’t able to put it down.
A good read. Enjoyed
I felt like I was with them on the island and I longed for their rescue from all the problems they faced. It seemed very real to me and who would have guessed how the rescue would come about. This author is very good.
Enjoyed the idea of the story but felt the writing was weak.
Fantastic book. Teacher/student story line put me off at first. The author built the love between them so well that I found myself forgetting the age and life experience differences. Can’t wait to see the movie!
A bit of fluff but every now and then Its enjoyable to read some fluff.
Really great story, hard to put down, read in 2 days p, very entertaining
