A second-chance romance as scorching hot as a baseball diamond in August.Slater “Savage” HarlowWinning the MVP award for the Birmingham Bandits last year was the highlight of my baseball career. It was the culmination of childhood dreams, calculated adult decisions, sacrifice, and a hell of a lot of focus. Tearing my ACL in spring training? Not what I expected at all.Now I’m home, in small town … expected at all.
Now I’m home, in small town Georgia, rehabbing in the comfort of my own home, with people I know. I’m connecting with friends I haven’t had time to talk to in years, spending days at home with my parents, and getting to watch my little brother play minor league baseball.
What I don’t expect is to see Malone Fulcher walking into Del’s Diner one morning while having my coffee and egg whites.
She’s the old flame, the one who got away, and the woman I compare all others to.
Malone Fulcher
Spending the summer in my hometown wasn’t what I had planned, but it’s what I need. Recovering from a hard year, both personally and professionally, I need to reconnect with who I am. When my mom encouraged me to come home and do some soul searching, I can’t say no.
Memories are all over this small town, from the Baptist Church to the east field on my parents farm, to the diner. On my second day in town, I decide to go in, memories be damned.
I lost my breath as soon as I saw “Savage” Harlow sitting alone at a booth. Our eyes lock, my heart flutters, and my hands shake – all the same way they did back in high school. But back then we couldn’t make it work. Going our separate ways to differing colleges, we decided we weren’t meant to be.
A decade later, as soon as our eyes meet, I’m wondering if we were right, because those green eyes of his do nothing but take me to a past that I can see being my future.
Author’s Note: This does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger!

Shasta Hope’s review
it was amazing
Don’t hate you, Laramie Briscoe??? Okay, so…I don’t hate you but I am a little upset. I needed tge whole story. However, since you havent done this to me with the MTF serirs, I will let this slide. Its your free pass! Lol!
I already knew that I was going to fall in love with this story, the charachters and their journey. However, bring that its a second chance love story, I fell over the cliff.
Slater “Savage” Harlow is your typical sexy alpha male with a chip on his shoulder. Baseball didnt make him this way. No Malone Fulcher made him this way. She was his everything outside of baseball and she destroyed and shattered his heart. He got down on one knee at the age of 18 and assumed that would be his only time. Yet, Malone chose her independence over his love and never looked back. Sitting in Del’s diner after his physical therapy. Yes, physical therapy. He tore his ACL in spring training before the season started and now he’s forced to rehab. However, instead of rehabbing on Birmingham, he’s back in his hometown of Willow’s Gap. And the one person he rfused to forget, the one who utterly destroyed him. Yep. She just walked into Del’s diner and interrupted his meal. Will this be the one moment where he can finallyhave complete closure and move on, or will this be thier defining moment in their long awaiting second part to their HEA?
Malone Fulcher was living the “dream” or so to speak in L.A working at a PR firm. She walked away from her hometown of Willows Gap the day she walked away from the love of her life. Never thought she would return. That is until she is humiliated and forced out of her job. Returning home to her childhood home and bedroom, this was totally out of left field. Considering she left and turned down her ex fiance 10 years ago, maybe this was her Karma. But with no job leads and having a zero bank account, she is forced to search for employment in different fields. Which leads her to walking through the door of her old employer, Del’s diner. And coming face to face with the one regret she has ever had. The one man who got away or was pushed away. Savage Harlow. Dang! Can her luck get any better?
Laramie did a fantastic job telling the story of Savage and Mal. Yet, the ending was and will never be my cup of tea!
As this is a duet and ends in a cliffhanger, I can’t give a full review, now I will say this, it’s a great start to what is going to be another hit for Ms Briscoe. This is a beautiful start to the journey to second chance at love for Malone and Slade. I’m so excited for the conclusion, I know it will be amazing.
“I Voluntarily Received and Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book”
On the DL is book 1 in a new The MVP Duet series by the talented author Laramie Briscoe. This’s one of this WOW books!!! You can’t put it down, once you start reading it. You will love the amazing characters, they’re in a relationship when younger but college, careers and a bad decision takes them apart for a very long time. After 10 years they’re back in their small town at the same time. What will happen now? Can they move on? No spoilers here!!!! Laramie did an outstanding job writing Slade and Malone story!!! I love second chance romances and this one is a must read, BUT…. have in mind that the end will make you SCREAM, literally. It ends on a cliff and I have to say that I’m not a fan, but it’s worth it, LOVE always win!!!!Highly recommend reading this and Laramie Briscoe, I NEED THE NEXT HALF ASAP, PLEASE!!!!!!
WOW!
Talk about a cliffhanger!
I highly suggest you go ahead and buy book 2 before you even start this one…. you will not want to wait starting the second book in this series. (I’m a little sad I have to wait for it to be ready.) As far as I know, there are only two books total.
Back to the book – The first three chapters start off by explaining how/why these two love birds spent 10 years apart. Both thought they knew what was best, but because of certain decisions, both are unhappy even though they spend the years trying to get over each other. I wanted to smack Malone several times. (Don’t even get me started! I’m still a bit upset with her!!!) Not that Savage is perfect, but this story sure made me by on team Savage.
When the two both end up back in there home town, there first encounter is better then either expected. Somehow these two forge a friendship which later turns into love again.
I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed!
Wow!!! What a great read. Laramoe Briscoe look a leap into sports and went above and beyond!! The live between Savage and Malone is the type of love everyone dreams of. I can’t wait for part two of their love story. Highly recommend!!
Slade and Malone are childhood sweethearts that are torn apart by the pressures of growing up. They both want the world and go their separate ways. After ten years apart, will they be able to mend broken hearts or will life get in the way again?
I really loved this book, even as a cliffhanger. After reading the last series by this author, I knew this book was going to be great and it was. I can’t wait to read more!! I have to know what happens!!!
Swoon worthy couple. Slater and Malone had an epic love in high school. 10 years later they find themselves both back home with unresolved feelings. This couple loves hotly with sweet heartfelt moments. You can’t help but root for this couple.
“Life is what we make it, regret is how far we take it. We still have a whole life to live.”
Ok I hope your ready for a heartwrenching story with a huge second chance at the one who got away even if she was the one that put things in motion ten years prior. Though I don’t recommend throwing your kindle or e reading device when these two driving you nuts because of how a hard headed they are.
Now that is said your in for a hellova story. Malone has been crapped on in the worse way only to tuck tail and return home and back with her parents. Though not knowing her first love is back in town too.
Savage is home doing what he needs to do to return to his career and first love well other than when karma decides that now is time for them to cross paths.
Paths cross and old becomes new but a the same time things are coming to the forefront but who knows the end………..
Your going to want to read this one and it’s companion 😉
I love second chance romances – they really are my crack.
In this one we start of with high school sweethearts engaged and about to embark on the next step of the journey…only one of them makes a decision that breaks both their hearts and changes their futures. Ten years later their both back in their hometown. Is it their time now? Can they make better decisions as adults than they did years ago?
I found this such a refreshing change as how it is handled when they encounter each other for the first time. I really enjoyed the sharing of their memories. I loved both of these characters. Slade deals with some understandable insecurities while Malone is trying to find what works for her. With time has come clarity and they are both able to look at the past and learn from it. But right now they’re in a bubble, what happens when real life starts to intrude? Will Malone be able to be the woman Slade needs her to be? or will the same concerns pull our couple apart again?
I. Can’t. Wait. For. The. Next. Book!!!!!!
Oh boy… I think there are a lot of people out there who can relate to Slade and Malone. First loves, college, finding yourself… Having doubts and reservations. Being afraid to talk! Why are we always afraid to talk!?
Ten years have come and gone since Malone and Slade set eyes on each other. They’re both in different places now, almost feels like they’re both starting over.
Can they move past the past. Will Slade be able to hear and listen to what Malone is asking of him? Will Malone speak up so there’s no repeating the past?
I loved and hated this book. I loved how honest it was about following your dreams even as you walk away from part of that dream. Love isn’t easy. It should be. It should be full of growth and hard times and good times and it all adds up to make you stronger – together.
I hated this because Malone killed me! She needed to speak up. Girl get a voice! And Slade!!! Ugh man… Not all women want to be “taken care of” we have dreams and wants of our own, honey. Young… In love… Having the world almost at your finger tips. Comprises and making sure that the person you love the most has what they need to feel fulfilled as well… That’s exactly what the book is about. Malone and Slade are navigating all of that all over again except they have the world, including the “team wives” watching and that’s adding some pressure this time around.
Will they break? Or stand strong, United?
Yes this ends on a cliff. But it’s worth it. So don’t let that effect your decision.
It’s Laramie Briscoe, you know you want to read it.
This is the start of a great new series. The romance is sweet and nostolgic as well as hot. I wish that the characters who speak of trust, had more faith in each other. I can’t wait for the second book to see how it all works out.
