A second-chance romance as scorching hot as a baseball diamond in August.Slater “Savage” HarlowWinning the MVP award for the Birmingham Bandits last year was the highlight of my baseball career. It was the culmination of childhood dreams, calculated adult decisions, sacrifice, and a hell of a lot of focus. Tearing my ACL in spring training? Not what I expected at all.Now I’m home, in small town … expected at all.
Now I’m home, in small town Georgia, rehabbing in the comfort of my own home, with people I know. I’m connecting with friends I haven’t had time to talk to in years, spending days at home with my parents, and getting to watch my little brother play minor league baseball.
What I don’t expect is to see Malone Fulcher walking into Del’s Diner one morning while having my coffee and egg whites.
She’s the old flame, the one who got away, and the woman I compare all others to.
Malone Fulcher
Spending the summer in my hometown wasn’t what I had planned, but it’s what I need. Recovering from a hard year, both personally and professionally, I need to reconnect with who I am. When my mom encouraged me to come home and do some soul searching, I can’t say no.
Memories are all over this small town, from the Baptist Church to the east field on my parents farm, to the diner. On my second day in town, I decide to go in, memories be damned.
I lost my breath as soon as I saw “Savage” Harlow sitting alone at a booth. Our eyes lock, my heart flutters, and my hands shake – all the same way they did back in high school. But back then we couldn’t make it work. Going our separate ways to differing colleges, we decided we weren’t meant to be.
A decade later, as soon as our eyes meet, I’m wondering if we were right, because those green eyes of his do nothing but take me to a past that I can see being my future.
Author’s Note: This does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger!

Ok absolutely yummy. I loved this one. I absolutely love second chance romance books and this is definitely one of them. This is definitely different than what I expect from Laramie. But she blew me away with this one. I loved being able to watch these two work their way back together. But that ending had me wanting to throw my kindle. Was not at all prepared for that. I absolutely need the next one. Highly recommend reading this one. Well written and just amazing
It was beautiful to watch two people go through what Slater and Malone went through together, even the rough moments. They both grew up a little and navigated a friendship and possible relationship on better footing at a slow pace, to eventually find what they were looking for. This being a duet of course it’s going to end with a cliffhanger, therefore I cannot wait to find out what happens
I love second chance romances and when it’s one that happens years after the characters have grown up and changed as we all do as adults, yet still are just as attracted as before….I’m sold. Malone broke Slater’s heart all those years ago, but hers definitely didn’t walk away unscathed. Now both are back in their very small town trying to heal two very different types of wounds. I liked that they were able to re-connect without throwing a lot of hateful words at each other. I liked that they accepted they always had love for each other, but took it slow to make sure where they were going is really where they want to be. I give this book 5 stars even though it ended on a big, hangin on the edge by the tips of your fingers cliffie!
Savage and Malone are they going to get a second chance? is love worth fighting for damn right it is. so it would seem the love of your life just walked back in , do you take the change or not. both of the characters are very stubborn and Savage always is looking for the other shoe to fall. Malone is a strong woman. Laramie
Briscoe , Couldn’t put this down. Amazing and i hope Malone kick his ass for breaking a promise to her, I’m looking forward to the second half so she can make him understand.
Sports romance has always been my favorite genre, but I always read about a sport I know. So to read On the DL was a challenge for me. Everyone in the world whos that baseball is the great american passtime, but I’m not american, and have NEVER seen a ballgame, let alone understood the rules. Since I never step away from a challenge, I looked forward to reading this book.
This is a second chance romance between high school sweethearts Slater “Savage” Harlow and Malone Fulcher. They had their whole life planned out, until things changed. A severe injury sends Savage back to his home town, where he meets Malone. The one who got way.
This is a nice story about how it is possible to reconnect, and how you can meet your soul mate at 15. Even if life throws you a curveball, destiny will make everything work out as it should.
My lack of baseball knowledge made me struggle with this book a little, but Laramie Briscoe still manages to deliver a sweet story, with one hell of a cliffhanger, which is why this book gets 4 stars from me.
On the DL is the first in two new stories to focus on Savage and Malones’ romance. It’s a second chance love story that follows them both through life changing decisions. Savage has always planned to play baseball for a living, college scholarships and then on to the professional leagues. He fell in love Malone years before, after dealing a crushing blow to Slade, Malone finds herself back in her hometown trying to find her footing again. Slade is home nursing an injury, watching his younger brother play baseball. Slade and Malone are able to work through past feelings, starting building a new foundation and discover who they are as adults. They quickly become a couple again, but when life came calling again Malone and Slade are still at an stalemate.
Malone has a strong personality, one that could easily run over others in her path. She has a kind heart and wants to help others but is still unsure of herself enough that it comes across as a hard nosed person. Slade is a strong male character, one who doesn’t take kindly to having to change his plans, he wants what he wants. When the stalemate occurs both characters are at a point of returning to their previous lives. I had a harder time connecting with any characters in this novel compared to Ms. Briscoe’s previous work. I’m a little indifferent on my overall feelings about this novel. Being a cliffhanger always pulls me in, I have to know what plays out between Malone and Slade.
Slater is one of Caleb’s friends, of The Moonshine Task Force series.
Slater is a professional baseball player, but when he hurts his knee during a game, he returns to his hometown to recover.
Malone Fulcher just lost her job in Los Angeles and also returned to her hometown to try to figure out what to do in her life.
When Slater and Malone meet again, the feelings of the past come out, as well as all the suffering of when they broke up.
Throughout the story, Slater and Malone have re-joined and begin to meet again, and the love they felt for each other as a teenager remains there, and it’s all up to them to give their feelings a chance and fight for things to work out this time .
Malone realizes that life in the small town is better than her old life in Los Angeles, since she was forgetting the values that really matter.
I adored Cherry and the interactions between her and Malone, as well as her comments every time “Savage” appeared after a run.
But the end of this book left me desperate to know what will happen between Malone and Slater.
This is another great story of Laramie Briscoe, with a plot that captures the attention from the beginning and with captivating characters.
I highly recommend the reading.
I love second-chance romance stories, and this was no exception. The story of Malone and Savage began in high school. They thought they had their lives all mapped out and were on the same page, until Malone decided she did not want to blindly follow Savage to college where he was going to play baseball, but have a career of her own. What’s wrong with that? Fast forward to a time where circumstances brought them both back to their small home town and they start to fall in love all over again, as grown ups who have been through some life experiences. Now they work together to navigate how being a couple will work while Savage is now playing in the major leagues. Be warned, this book does end up on a cliffhanger, although, not a huge one. I read an ARC for an honest review.
Savage thought he had their lives all planned out until she decides she wants something different now years later they meet again both in a place where they can see if they can get their happy ever after
Love everything she writes. Another great book. Cant wait to see what happens…
I’m a huge fan of second chance and a huge fan of this author. There has never been a book I haven’t liked , this one included. The two give me all the feels and I need to read more their story!
Wow!!! I never screamed at the end of a book before. I wanted to knock some sense into Slater and Malone. I enjoyed this book and the characters. Laramie knows how to pull a reader in. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
So I don’t normally read second chance romance novels. I hate them most of the time, well all the time. However this is one of my favorite authors so I thought I would give it a try.
It’s completely and utterly worth it. It doesn’t so much feel like a second shot at but a whole new beginning. It doesn’t try to throw the past back and forth.
Malone broke Slater’s heart but he destroyed hers too. Being back home after ten years is like stumbling your way down an old path.
Slater is home from an baseball injury while Malone lost her job. The relationship build up between these two characters is slow and oh so intense.
I’m not sure what I expected when they finally got together, it doesn’t play out like you want it to.
The ending is hard to process. You want something so bad but when you get it, it doesn’t always give you what you need.
To everyone on the outside, Slater had it all. His dream of being a major league baseball player came true so all should be right with his world. But he didn’t have his girl by his side. Then he is sidelined by an injury, so he goes home to recover. Fate brings his girl Malone back as well. Ten years have passed since she broke his heart. Pushed out of a career that she enjoyed, she comes home to lick her wounds. She hated how she handled things back then. The opportunity to try again is too tempting when they finally run into each other.
I knew that I was going to be wrecked by this book in the best possible way. Laramie Briscoe is unbelievably talented, making me love each of her heroes the best until the next one arrives! We met Slater in Cruise as the guys were roommates in college. Slater was an amazing character, a sweetheart that you can’t help but love even though he is holding back. Malone is hard on herself and you can feel how lonely she has been, how much she loves him. On the DL has all the feels, but at the same time really gets to the heart of relationships and I couldn’t put it down. Thank goodness MVP will be out soon, as I’m dying to see where Ms Briscoe is taking us. Ten stars for this amazingly romantic second chance at love!
We have been waiting for Savage’s story since we met him in Caleb’s book and now we have the man behind the baseball uniform. The story introduces Savage and Malone when they are seniors in high school with their future planned out. What happens though when one of them doesn’t want the future they been planning all along. When Malone sees another future she takes and chance and breaks Savage’s heart in the process. Fast forward 10 years later, Malone and Savage are both back in their hometown trying to figure out what’s next with their lives. Savage is rehabbing his injury and Malone was fired from her job, when they see one another for the first time it’s a little awkward. Then they see that they have both grown up and decide to get to know one another as friends. Sometimes old feelings and sparks fly where it’s hard to fight. They decide to give their relationship another try but can Malone and Savage make it work with his high powered career. Can they make it work this time or will old emotions and fears get in the way.
I love the story line and it’s a quick read. Malone was insecure, stubborn and she drowned herself in doubt the whole book. She didn’t know what she wanted at all. I’m like make a decision already and stop hanging on to fear. Savage was all man, sweet, and knew what he wanted. He just didn’t give Malone a chance to figure out what she wanted. The man had no patience but he didn’t let fear hold him back so much. Malone and Savage are intense with one another and they have great chemistry. I just didn’t like their personalities because to me they didn’t see as if they grew up enough. This book does end on a cliffhanger but I do recommend this as a good romance of the second chance nature.
The book begins with a painful, angsty flashback of Slater and Malone’s teen years but Laramie always writes strong female characters and Malone was no exception.
Kudos to Malone for knowing what she wanted and following through even though she was terrified to pursue it.
When Slater and Malone find themselves back home 10 years later, Laramie didn’t drag it out for Slater to come around and hear Malone’s explanation of what led to their breakup. But that doesn’t mean a decade’s worth of issues is quickly forgotten.
Heads up: there is a cliffhanger.
I kind of expected that because there’s no realistic way they could work out everything out in one book.
I respect that…but as an impatient reader, I don’t like it. LOL.
On the DL by Laramie Briscoe is the first book in a brand new duet from the lady who brought you all the hotness of the Moonshine Task Force series. The MVP Duet is the story of Slater “Savage” Harlow and Malone Fulcher. High school sweethearts who had the whole world in front of them until their dreams split them apart. A second chance romance that slowly pieces together their past while simultaneously taking you through their first meeting ten years after they went their separate ways. Told in dual POV, highly emotional, filled with anticipation and wondering “what if”. Well-written and well-paced. Ends on a cliffhanger but book two, MVP, will be out real soon. Loved it! Enjoy!
This a part of a duet so be aware it does end with a small like cliffhanger. Of course being a baseball loving gal that I am I had to read this one with Slater being a baseball player. Slater and Malone were supposed to have the HEA, but then decisions made when they were eighteen change their course. Now years later fate has given them a second chance. Will the grab a hold of it with all their might? Or is history going to repeat itself? I really liked Malone and Slater. Malone’s whole life is turned upside down, but is she where she is meant to be? You can feel the chemistry that Malone and Slater still have. It makes for easily read book. I can’t wait to read the second part in the duet to see what’s going to happen next.
Yall these two broke my heart and then put it back together and then did it all over again. They made me laugh, cry and be mad at them.
I adored the story of Slade and Malone. Slade and Malone were high school sweethearts with plans for their future. They would go off to college together, get married and live happily ever after. When one of them is not so sure about that future, the other feeling rejected ends the relationship. Fast forward 10 years and their worlds are again on a collision course. This time, do they have what it takes to make it last?
Both characters are strong, passionate people which made them great characters but caused problems in their relationship both in the past and in the here and now. I wish that they communicated! This book ends on a cliffy so I can’t wait for the next book.
