When Michael Duncan is sent to investigate the disappearance of several dragon subjects, he finds himself in a bind. Locked in a dungeon, his only hope lies wrapped in a bundle of cloth tossed at his feet. One kiss and his life is changed forever. Hunted by his own people for crimes he didn’t commit, Michael has to learn a whole new life at the hands of a beautiful woman. Can she help him clear … clear his name, or will just being in her presence get him sentenced to death?
Carissa Markel doesn’t know who this man chained to the wall is, but he’s her only chance for escape. She has power, but, born without a voice, she lacks the means to wield it. One choice, made in desperation, sends them running for his life. Does she have the strength to help him clear his name? And what will her brother, the King of Dragons, do if he finds out what she’s done? That’s immaterial, the real question is… can she keep her hands off him long enough to find out?

If you enjoy shifters and think dragons are HOT, start with On the Accidental Wings of Dragons. Loved it!
Some books are page-turners that you just can’t put down — and then there is the rare book that makes you stop and think. You put it down in the middle of reading it so that you can process what you’ve read. You need to figure out what you think about what you’ve read. I felt that this was that kind of rare book. I couldn’t just race through it, I needed to think through it, too.
Books in some series feel “incomplete”. It is like the author and publisher just said, “Chop it off here. It is long enough.” without letting the work come to a natural ending. That leaves a reader feeling unsatisfied – like a meal that just isn’t quite filling enough. This book leaves me looking forward to more of the series but satisfied in that the first story in the series was complete.
Kudos to the author for something above and beyond what I expected.
Not the book I was expecting : more about sex than anything else.
This was a freebie by a new author for me, but I was pleasantly surprised. Its a cross between a police procedural novel and a shifter novel with dragons. In my literary criticism classes, there was always a fascination with women’s voices. This woman can only borrow the voice of others with her magic, so much of the time she is playing the Little Mermaid card. The central conflict in this story hinges on being able to tell the real story, and several of the characters struggle with being silenced at critical moments. For a cute little novel, it asks some interesting questions about power and trust. Or you can just enjoy the lively heroine, interesting world building and lively plot! Happy Reading!
Loved this! This was such a different take on the nature of dragons and the interaction of dragons and humans in contemporary society. Throw in a commoner-royalty romance and this just rocked!
I laughed out loud at parts of this book. The characters are likeable, and I’d like to read more from this series.
The author has a style that seemingly shortcuts some of the details of the story and the books aren’t long enough. Never thought I’d say that as an avid reader of fantasy! Other than my disappointment of the stories being too short, I really enjoyed this book and am about to buy the rest of the books in the series.
Not necessarily something I would recommend because the plot is weak and the book lacks world building. The entire focus of the book revolves around the two characters and their sexual desires rather than what little storyline this book has.
Another great book!! Couldn’t put it down
Imagine yourself, waking up, chained, in a dungeon, and thirsty beyond reason. Suddenly, the door opens and something, wrapped in drapery is tossed in. So begins the adventure of elite trained dragon protector Michael Duncan.
Oh? What is in the drapery turns out to be a beautiful lady. Now what? Escape. Learn you are accused of kidnapping the lady you escaped with. Can thing get worse? Oh yes, and you find uncontrollable urges that make thinking straight extra difficult.
My only objection is the sexual overtones. They are pervasive.
Good characters and solid plot line
It is a very creative novel. Author has a very good way of letting you know the characters. You can picture them
I really enjoyed this story of an elite guard being framed to divert suspicion from the real crook who is making lone wolf dragons disappear. Michael Duncan is pledged to protect dragons and was investigating the crimes. He gets too close to the truth and it literally changes his life! I loved the characters, the plot, the slow burn romance, and the mystery along with the wit that characterizes Julie Wetzel’s writing. She fleshes out her characters very well and the secondary characters add a lot to her stories too. She has become one of my favorite authors. Be sure to check out this series and her ‘Kindling Flames’ series. I’ve read both series twice and will probably indulge in them again soon!
Good cast of characters. Well written. The story flows with no draggy places. Jumped right into book 2. Anxious to see what happens next.
guy accidentally becomes dragon – shenanigans ensue
This series has me on the lookout for more by this author. The world is built in such a way that you can envision it and get lost, which is a good thing.
Entertaining from paragraph 1 to the last. Loved it
Might need to get more of this series.
Loved it
Kind of cute
