AUTHOR’s NOTE: Please read before purchasing this book. This book is written for mature audiences. This is a “what if” book. It is not Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. This story is NOT cannon. If you are looking for that type of book, then perhaps this is not the book for you. If you are not, then please continue … Separated by prideful airs and prejudiced assumptions Elizabeth Bennet and … Bennet and Mr. Darcy are convinced they will never see the other again … until, eleven years later; fate sets them both on a different course.
Elizabeth Bennet
After receiving the most insulting proposal imaginable from Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet vows to loathe him for all eternity. Years later, now a widowed duchess and raising her son, the Duke of Grafton, Elizabeth embarks on an adventure with her son and father to the West Indies.
Fitzwilliam Darcy
After enduring a scathing condemnation of his character by the only woman he would ever love, Mr. Darcy decides he must disappear from society. With the help of his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam, Darcy secures a ship and crew and sets sail on the open seas. Mr. Darcy’s life takes such a turn that even his closest relative would not recognize him or his new identity as Max Sterling, Captain of the Absolution.
When the pirates of the Absolution attack the Duchess’ ship, Captain Sterling receives the shock of his life when he spots the beautiful duchess and realizes that they share a connection, albeit one that was abandoned eleven years ago …

A LOVE STORY FOR THE TIMES
This is a love story for the times. Amy Cecil is absolutely brilliant. Get ready for true love not known quite yet to
Each and every time I pick up a historical romance I surprise myself by how much I love it. On Stranger Prides, was absolutely delightful.
It’s a what-if for Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth and I really loved the swashbuckling plot line. I love how these historicals transport you back to another era and force you to really read the words. I dove in and thought for sure the prologue would just about do me in, but I powered through and found a rhythm to the story that carried me along, much like I would have been on the Absolution.
If you’re a fan of historical romance this is definitely a must read…if you’re not, why not? Give this one a try, seriously, you won’t be disappointed.
I loved this story! It is a wonderful story of fate throwing 2 people back together 11 years later to rekindle their love. The characters are very enjoyable and lovable. I hope Amy decides to continue the story with another book.
Oh, my goodness. It took me a little bit to get used to a book like this that I’m not used to. After getting through the prologue, I devoured this. I was so engrossed with it I couldn’t put it down. So intense and empowering. I am so glad I got to read this.
“I received a copy at no cost from the author.”
Funny how timing can play such fickle role.
Easy reading with rose tinted view of life. The philanthropy of piracy a hopeful and idelistic perspective. Yet how else could a person step so cleanly from high Society to it and back. “Propriety” of the era not allowing for truth in conversation let alone marriage for love. Sweet story.
Oh goodness me I loved this! I have to hold my hands up and say that I am a fan of Pride and Prejudice anyway. I really wasn’t sure what to expect but the start settles you in with parts that are familiar and then it takes you off on a journey. Oh my does it! The way that Marina Barrett narrated just helped to suck me in even further. I loved the accents she used. The idea behind it is fantastic and I could just imagine the characters behaving in this way. Sooooooo good.
Wow!! Amy Cecil has an amazing, and an original writing. She never disappoints, and she always exceeds my expectations. This is the best Pride and Prejudice retelling I ever read / listen. In fact, this is the first time I can say I truly loved Elizabeth and Darcy’s story. Captain Max Sterling (Darcy) is handsome, strong, and caring. Elizabeth is beautiful, sassy, and stubborn. She is a wonderful Mom. Her son, Thomas, is a formidable child. The supporting characters are also great. I like Elizabeth’s Father. The world building is captivating, and the scenery is well described. The storyline is original, intriguing, romantic, and beautiful. This is an amazing adventure. I love all about this story. Marina Barrett did an outstanding job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice, very pleasant to listen to. The characters were easy to distinguish. I LOVED it, and I HIGHLY recommend it. This is one of my favorite audiobooks.
On Stranger prides by Amy Cecil is a regency romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Marina Barrett.
I absolutely loved this spin on Pride and Prejudice. Amy did an amazing job pulling me into the story. I just had to know how it was going to end.
Marina did an amazing job on the narration. I love that she uses different tones/voices for each character. She really knows how to bring a story to life.
I would highly recommend this book if you love Regency Romances.

Who doesn’t love a Pride and Prejudice retelling story?
This book is even more than then what you’re expecting, it’s more interesting and that what if elements are so well defined and written that is actually a totally new story worth of her own rank .
Another great book by a favourite author now.
Audio review:
On Stranger Prides (A Pride and Prejudice Novel) takes a unorthodox twist on a beloved classic tale. I love the original narrative and was intrigued to listen to this modern twist version. A entertaining listen with humourous persiflage that Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy AKA (Max – Captain Sterling) depicted. Supporting character Elizabeth’s son, Duke of Grafton was a favourite of mine. World building descriptions and settings are detailed. The alternative narrative of a pirate tale is engaging and the writing style is vivid. An artistically twist on a pioneer classic.
Narator Marina Barrett inflection perfectly fit the historical setting. Her performance was smooth and consistent. Marina magnify’s the narative with bringing all the right sentiments & character reactions.

Better then the original! I just loved this version. I loved Elizabeth’s protective side as a mother. I loved Max’s (Mr Darcy’s) carefree side. What a wonderful ride Amy Cecil has taken us on in this what if version of the story. I can’t wait to see how she finishes it.
Marina Barrett as always is freaking brilliant. She is exceptional as Tommy and I she really brought out the playful side of Max. Well done!
I love listening to books with this era and have to say that this book definitely did not disappoint. A misunderstanding leads to some drastic reactions to the point that fate has to take over and make their paths cross again. I really enjoyed this book and loved the narration.
On Stranger Prides
A Pride and Prejudice Novel
By: Amy Cecil
Narrated by: Marina Barrett
If you want to suck me into a Pride and Prejudice book, this is the way to do it! Argh, Elizabeth Bennett, you have no willpower when it comes to the charms of Captain Sterling! This is a fantastic listen as we have Elizabeth being taken hostage on a pirate ship by none other than the man she turned down 11 years before. Not recognizing the dashing Fitz Darcy, now known as Captain Sterling, he uses his wiles to woo her and win her heart. But what will happen when she realizes who he is? And what has he done with her father? And how will her son react to all the changes in his life? There is so much to deal with, many decisions to make and a hot, burning desire for this man. I loved every minute of Amy Cecil’s original take on this classic.
Marina Barrett just enhances this story with her amazing narration. This woman has a real knack for storytelling, and she knows how to bring this to life. She has incredible voices and her emotions and inflections of all the characters pull us in, and keep us stranded until the very end. It’s a book well worth a listen!

O.M.G. This is the best “what if” book based off Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice novel that I have read thus far. I reread it twice because I loved it that much. I can’t rave enough about the book and the storyline. Mr. Darcy was well characterized as one bad boy that anyone couldn’t resist. I don’t want to give anything away, but it is REALLY, REALLY good and well worth your time to give it a read.
