Alex was a complete asshole at the beginning of this story, so much so it actually gave me a bit of anxiety. And honestly he did something so incredibly stupid that I can’t forgive him for it. If it wasn’t for trickery on Eve’s part, Alex would of destroyed their entire relationship in the name of “love” and “revenge”. It’s situations like this on why second chance romance is my least favorite trope. The one thing I did really like about Alex was that in the 5 years he and Eve were divorced, he didn’t sleep with anyone else. That’s almost unheard of in romance books, and it’s so damn refreshing. And once it stopped being a complete moron, it was really very beautiful they way he openly loved Eve.
Alex and Eve’s journey back to each other is an emotional one. They have to deal with what happened, and come to realize they people they are now, and that path is not easy.
This series has me wanting to forgo all else and just read non-stop until I’m through all the books. The characters are all different (even though all of the men are very protective) and very interesting. Love the dynamics among all of them. This story has lots of suspense and some twists, especially at the end.
Eve and Alex have a love story that is jeopardy until this current mission. Surprisingly Ian plays a bigger part in their working through their differences than he wants. As the story progresses, Eve and Alex both reflect on how they’ve handled things since her abduction and what they should have done differently. I’m so looking forward to reading Ian’s story next.
Hate to be heartless as I feel Blake wants us to suffer the pangs of this couple’s love, but I have never been able to get behind them as a couple.
The heroine was raped years before the series begins. She and the H were married. She was an FBI profiler and he was some kind of FBI alpha type. They are now more renegade as they work for Big Tag and his band of merry mercenary Master Doms. The h had warned her husband not to go after the bad guy, but when he ignored her she was the one that ended up kidnapped and raped for a week. The couple have been in a downward spiral for the past six years (? I think 6), and their emotional distance and emotional torture has done more damage than the rape.
They still have sex on a Dominant/sub base and, for me, just ick. Taking a page from Pretty Woman they don’t kiss. The big bad guy’s presence has come up again, and the H, having learned NOTHING from before, wants to hunt him down. The heroine tries to tell him not to for the same old reasons and rinse and repeat.
The secondary characters are here but with downplayed roles as the focus is an H and h healing through their kink. Way too long, and sorry to be judgey, but anal sex doesn’t sound like the most bonding of experiences but apparently it’s the Grail.
Read to further the story and the set up for Big Tag’s story. Or not.
I listened to the audiobook. This was intense as we learn about exactly what Evans did to Eve. I don’t think of this book as being a standalone because it involves the entire Taggert-McCay team, and makes references to things that occurred in previous books. I think you really have to start at book one and work your way through.
At the same time I had a problem with this book, I enjoyed the fact that it was full of suspense. It just seemed to go on forever. Very early on, it was easy to figure out who Christie/Charlie was in relation to the group. There was one thing that turned out to be a surprise to me. Most of the tension had to do with hoping Evan’s did not get his hands on Eve again.
Alex and Eve have been doing this back and forth through the series. I know it was their book, but way too much time was spent on them needing to reconnect. I also felt like Alex didn’t listen to her any better the second time around.
The narration was ok. There were a couple of times that I wasn’t sure which guy was talking. The narrator seemed to have an easier time in the last book, and he was switching between 3 accents.
The last book introduced Simon. This book introduced Charlie and Jesse. There is someone named Penny lurking in the background at the office. Hopefully Ian’s book is next. I honestly think of I could have skimmed some of the back and forth between Alex and Eve, and, some of the situations that were very obvious this book would have been much better.
It was still a pretty good listen with action, suspense, romance, and mystery. I admit that I did like Alex better in his Dom persona then when he was running around behind Eve being pitiful. The secondary characters were pretty interesting too. I still have to listen to Ian’s story, even if I’m pretty sure it will also be way too long.
In this book we learn the whole story behind Alex and Eve, their marriage, their divorce, their D/s relationship and the love they are both denying.
When Evans turns up on the radar again, all Alex can think about it keeping Eve safe and out of the way. He can’t take a chance that she could ever go through that hell again.
Their contact turns out to be a reporter, she’d been sniffing out this story for years. Now she needs Alex and as many of this team as she can get to infiltrate a club she believes is laundering Evans’ money. She’s managed to get him a position as Dom in Residence for this themed Club and also the ability to bring his own sub.
Now when Eve hears about this, she has her own ideas of who that sub should be. The problem is, how is she going to pull this off.
To say Alex was pissed is an understatement. Unfortunately for him there was nothing to do but accept it. Eve definitely pushes his buttons but really she is a valuable asset in this scenario.
Lots of suspense, action and downright scary moments as this tale unfolds. Plus the love and sizzle between Alex and Eve that runs hot and cold and then white hot as they finally discover what their problems really are.
Love it! Cant get enough of this series. Reread multiple times!
Lexi Blake creates such interesting, rich stories I easily become completely immersed in them while reading. Alex and Eve’s story is so devastatingly emotional on several levels it feels like your heart is being shredded. You grieve along side them for what was, what is and what might be in their love story. The end of this book will have you on the edge of your seat and your heart in your throat.
Will an op fraught with danger be the catalyst in repairing everything that had gone wrong between Alex and Eve since she’d been so brurally attacked so many years ago? The McKay-Taggart team led by Alex seeks to take down a home grown terrorist with the help of an investigative journalist.
Alex McKay and Eve St James have been dancing around each other since her kidnapping, rape and torture by a criminal being hunted by Alex. Eve divorced him after he chose to seek revenge and kept his distance emotionally. They both worked with Ian and the team and had a D/s contract but there was no real emotion there. After 5 years Alex gets info on the jerk he’s looking for from a woman named Kristen. She has everything set up to capture this man. Alex goes in as Dom In Residence and Eve goes in as his slave. Sean is the cook. Of course things get crazy! This book has lots of twists and turns. Lots of steamy scenes and a whopper of a shock at the end!
I could not wait to read about Eve and Alex McKay. If you have read the other books in the series you have been introduced to the characters. This is an amazing second chance love story that will have you rooting for the characters to find their way back to each other. I loved to read the growth of the characters through out the story and we got some fun updates from other members of the McKay-Taggart team. This story has action, romance, humor and just enough angst to keep things interesting!
