From the New York Times bestselling author of the Tradd Street novels comes a story of old wounds and second chances, set in the small South Carolina town of Folly Beach. To most people, Folly Beach is simply the last barrier island before reaching the great Atlantic. To some, it’s a sanctuary for lost souls… When Emmy Hamilton’s mother encourages her to buy the local book store, Folly’s … encourages her to buy the local book store, Folly’s Finds, she hopes it will distract her daughter from the loss of her husband. But the seller has one condition that changes everything: Emmy must allow Lulu, the late owner’s difficult elderly sister, to continue selling her bottle trees from its back yard.
For the most part Emmy ignores Lulu as she sifts through the love letters she finds in a box of used books. But the more she discovers about the letters, the more she understands Lulu. As details of a possible murder and a mysterious disappearance during WWII are revealed, the two women discover that circumstances beyond their control have brought them together, here on Folly Beach. And it is here that their war-ravaged hearts can find hope again…

Great summer read
This is a book worth reading for the mysterious plot alone. It was so interesting to learn more about the geography of the United States, and an era in history of which I had very little previous knowledge. That, and the plot and story line kept me intrigued throughout the entire book.
Loved this book. I was raised and lived on James Island and Folly Beach was our “go-to” beach. This brought back so many memories and I even learned a little history. Highly recommend!
Good read, interesting story. I wasn’t aware that German submarines were so close to our shores during WW2
Very good story line .
Loved the history
My new favorite author reminds me of Dorothea Benton Frank in subject matter and the highest praise I can give is Dot would love this
I really enjoyed this book. Intertwined with WW 2 history. Great piece of light historical fiction.
Really enjoyed the characters, good book
I thoroughly enjoyed this story… also my first trip to Folly Beach was last November, so the setting was familiar. I was sorry when it ended (the book and my trip:)
Enjoyed this book – a light chick lit type read, but was not the usual and also combined historical fiction.
Wonderful. Loved the way it went back to the 1940s and present day. A lot of history
Got my own bottle tree after reading this story
I liked the dual stories intertwined to one ending.
An easy read, but not great.
It was a good story and made me head to a history book. I was unaware of some of the things on our coast or have forgotten. A good quick read.
What a great book, I really enjoyed reading this book! I’m a sucker for beach stories, I love most of them! This one is no exception. Thank you for the great book Karen!
I have read all of Karen White’s books, and this one remains my favorite. On Folly Beach is beautifully written and a fascinating story of past and present characters and happenings that connect to each other.
Unusual in that it’s a beach read with historic fiction mixed in. Love reading about the low country!
Intertwines current time and WW2 stories – interesting twist.
Very entertainment
