“A really sexy book…Highly recommend this one.” I really enjoyed this book. It has everything….great main and secondary characters, strong storyline, hot sex scenes, and a perfect ending.
Fell in love with this author and this series with this one book. awww.
Absolutely wonderful book. I realize I am late to the party with this one but I’m so happy I found it now. I think this will be a book I will read again and again and again. Loved everything about this love story.
Rating:
An American romance in Scotland!
My title is a bit of a teaser, it is only the heroine Jocelyn that is American and actually her mother was from Scotland which was why she decided to move there, but I really liked a few scenes in this book hat played up her American heritage because in the romance genre we see a lot of book’s written by British authors and they have the British words for certain things and I kind of liked it that this heroine called out the differences and made a few jokes about them.
“Hannah!” Elodie spun around to glare down at her. “Young ladies don’t use bad language.”
Hannah shrugged. “It’s just arse, mum.”
“I was calling Adam an arse,” Ellie explained to her little sister. “Because he is an arse.”
Elodie looked like she was about to explode. “Would everyone stop saying arse!”
“I know,” I blew out an exaggerated breath of exasperation. “It’s called an ass, people. Ass.”
Jocelyn (a.k.a Joss) moved to Scotland at age eighteen to go to college and now four years later and done with college, she plans to become a writer. She is looking for a new place to live and a new roommate because her college roommate moved to London with her boyfriend. Joss put all her efforts into school and hasn’t dated in the four years she has been in school.
She ends up finding a nice place on Dublin street and likes the girl who she will be roommates with very much. On her first day the girl leaves for her job and Joss unpacks all her belongings and takes a long soak in the tub, but forgets to bring a towel. When she runs out to get one she runs right into the girls brother, Braden.
Braden has a girlfriend but it isn’t long before they find they are very attracted to each other. However Joss keeps a lot of secrets about herself and doesn’t open herself up to people very easily at all. The last thing she wants is any kind of relationship. So they agree to an arrangement of sorts. Friends with benefits. The chemistry between Braden and Jocelyn is explosive and I really enjoyed how Jocelyn is dealing with her mental health issues throughout the book. She sees a psychologist but she also starts to open herself up to both Braden and his sister Ellie, as well as their entire family.
The book is very well written and deals with some intense subjects very well. It is a terrific romance and it was very romantic and steamy as well. There were also some pretty funny situations at times that came out of the blue. I really enjoyed it.
This was my first Samantha Young read and I became an immediate fan and devoured three more of her books the same week. ON DUBLIN STREET was so satisfying with characters you really care for and a romance that feels just right. Recommend highly. 5 stars ++++!
Great love story!
I got to laugh at a fart and I was all caught up in an emotional story line to boot. There are not enough words to explain the love I have for Braden! The only thing I wish I could do to enhance this was maybe hearing Braden in audio so I could swoon over that Scottish accent dishing out some of those lines.
Since the death of her parents and her baby sister, eight years ago, Jocelyn “Jos” Butler has made it a point not to allow anyone access to her heart. A novelist, she resides in Scotland where she shares a flat with Ellie Carmichael. After a second chance encounter with Ellie’s brother, Brayden, Jos fights a losing battle to resist her sexual infatuation with her roommate’s sexy brother.
With a chemistry that is explosive from the first chapter, Brayden pursues Jos and eventually suggests a mutually beneficial agreement-sex with no strings. Although Jos is broken by her past, Brayden also has baggage to overcome. Throughout this steamy read, Jos and Brayden advance from friends with benefits to a strong bond bound by love. Powerful and intense, author Samantha Young, captured love at its most vulnerable.
Happy Reading!
I totally loved this book – I read it a number of years ago, I’ve read it numerous times since – it’s one of those books you can read over and over and still love it.
I’m so sorry I didn’t leave a review then – but I’m doing it now!!!
Samantha is a one click buy author for me, for sure.
LOVED this book!! Samantha’s characters were really well thought out and had depth. Witty. Strong. Funny. Inspirational. Realistic. Scared. Romantic. Unpredictable. I read this book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. Loved the fact that her main character had issues (don’t we all?!), was strong enough to admit she had issues, got help, and continued to grow.
This is by far one of my all-time favorite books. You’ll fall in love with Joss and Braden as well as the rest of their family.
An emotional story I couldn’t get enough of! If I could rate this 7 stars, I would without second thought. I’m not sure how I’ve never heard of this series before now, but this will definitely be on my yearly re-read list.
My heart broke for Joss and all that she’s lost in her life. She blames herself, thinking that she’s the common denominator amongst all the tragedy. I’ve never wanted to reach through a book and wrap my arms around a character more that I did with Joss.
Braden feels their instant chemistry from the moment they bump into each other, but after he finds out that his sisters new roommate is Joss, his loyalty and protectiveness of Ellie keep him from getting too close to her.
The character development was written beautifully, allowing true and genuine friendships to form. I highly enjoyed the narration of the audiobook, and immediately bought the boxed set of novellas. Run and add this to your TBR if you haven’t read it yet, I promise you won’t regret it!
I recently discovered Samantha Young through one of her latest releases, and have been making my way through her backlist. She is now one of the few on my auto-buy, one-click lists, and I’m looking forward to reading more from her.
I have had this paperback on my bookshelves for over five years. FIVE YEARS!! I cannot believe that I have had access to one of the best stories I have ever read and not done so! I’m going to be kicking myself for a long time to come I can assure you. BUT first I’ll need sleep because I forced myself to put the book down and grab two hours, as I knew I had to somewhat function today. The lack of sleep will be so worth it and I know I am going to be thinking of this story for quite some time and hopefully the tears will stop flowing soon!
I was consumed by this story. I’m chuckling to myself right now because I nearly didn’t choose to read this book as I have been binging on RomComs as of late, but I had chosen On Dublin Street for my blog’s January read and last night I thought I should start it whilst I had the chance. The fact that this book, one that I knew I wasn’t really in the mood for, managed to grab my attention and make me feel so much all the way throughout the story is truly remarkable. Even when I wanted to roll my eyes within the first few scenes when I guessed who Braden was to Joss from their initial meeting, assuming this was going to be, forgive me for saying your ‘typical romance story’, I didn’t expect to find myself so in love with this story, addicted to the way Samantha Young’s words were bringing out all the emotions in me and connecting with the characters that she had created. There are some very valuable messages conveyed in the story that I will take away with me and hold dear to my heart.
I couldn’t help but love Joss, Braden, Ellie and Adam, and whatever emotion they were experiencing I was right there with them. I adore Joss – Her story broke my heart at times and I got it…. I truly understood where she was coming from. Her personality is amazing. Her one-liners, the banter she creates between herself and Braden, plus the struggles that she has makes her a very special young lady indeed. Someone who deserves nothing but a lifetime of happiness.
I understood both Joss and Braden’s actions, even when I wanted to reach into the book and give them a shake to realise what was happening between them and also right the wrongs that they were doing to each other.
If you’ve got this far through my rambling review… thank you for persevering! I know the majority of romance readers will have already read and enjoyed this book and you may be ready to reread and relive this beautiful story once again. For those who have yet to read it, please do! I’d love to award this book more than the five stars that I am able to. It will definitely be listed as one of my top reads of 2021 at the end of the year.
Audiobook-Narrator Paula Costello
I have to admit, the narrator does an amazing Scottish Brogue. Her portraying of the characters were perfect with the different personalities.
Joss graduated college in Scotland to become an author. Due to needing to find another place to live she finds an amazing new friend. She also meets an arrogant and sexy businessman named Braden. This isn’t a one time meeting either as Braden becomes a major part of her life and she tries to avoid him due to her feelings.
Until she can’t avoid him when he propositions her. The chemistry between these two was hot.
Past tramas hold Joss back from letting in anyone in. Because she keeps her distance with her secrets, demons and lies she doesn’t just hurt herself but others around her. She lies to herself as much as she lies to others.
Now this wasn’t an angsty story, it was lighter with a lot of witty banter, many times laughing out loud at the dialogue.
As this had been heartbreaking at times, it was such a sweet story about loss, fears, love and healing. Braden was exactly what Joss needed to heal and move on. emotuonally and physically.
I am very happy I decided to pick this audiobook up. Definitely a well worth read.
This is one of my favorite books. I’ve had it in my favorites for years.

This was a reread for me. I only rated the novel and never reviewed. So here goes.
Loved it! The push and pull between Jocelyn and Braden is everything. I fell in love with them both even though I wanted to strangle them at some points in the book.
I laughed, I cried, I was in awe. I loved the emotional rollercoaster.
I read this book 5 years ago and it was still just as good the 2nd time around today.
Amazing!
Jocelyn is a free thinking, highly independent young woman. She’s had to be, her parents and younger sibling died in a car crash, leaving Jocelyn alone at a young age (shipped off to be with relatives who didn’t really want her didn’t help her either)and losing her best friend at a young age (her friend died in a drunken accident) which Jocelyn totally blames herself for. This has created a wall around Jocelyn’s heart, the only two people she’s let in (and really not all the way in) is her friend from college and the boyfriend.
Jocelyn moves from America to Ireland. Going to college there she meets Rhia and her boyfriend James. They form a fast and firm friendship (but Jocelyn is wary of letting anyone else all the way in, if she does, and they die, then she’s worried for her wellbeing)
After her flat mate leaves, Jocelyn needs to find another flat to rent, she finds one on Dublin Street. Meeting the owner of the luxury flat, Jocelyn decides this is the space she can create her work (she an aspiring writer) she agrees to the rent, and Jocelyn moves in. But reminding her new flat mate that she doesn’t really talk about herself. And doesn’t want to get close.
Braden is a hard working millionaire (but it’s not been handed to him, he took over from his father, and built the business to what it is now) he likes the ladies, but it’s never for too long, and if they show they want more, then Braden is off, and on to the next willing female.
The sparks fly as soon as these two people meet, both Braden and Joss (as Jocelyn likes to be called) are attracted to one another, but Joss doesn’t really want to know. She doesn’t do relationships, and casual sex has long lost its appeal. But he does press all her buttons
Braden finally wears Joss down, they decide on a friends with benefits arrangement. It takes Joss a while to accept and enjoy the friendship that Braden offers.
The story takes two steps forward, one step back. Joss is terrified of letting anyone in, no one really knows her, and she likes it that way, and she doesn’t want to know about Braden, she wants to keep it to sex (keep Braden in a box)
But things take a turn when someone close to both Braden and Joss is taken Ill.
Will Joss run? Will she risk her heart? And will Braden finally commit?
We have a few characters that we meet along the way. (And I think a few get a book of their own)
Hailed as a “fifty shades of grey”
I wish they wouldn’t compare books to other books.
(A) Braden didn’t have a scarred and horrendous past. He doesn’t have a penchant for “red rooms” or whips.
(B) Jocelyn isn’t a timid little woman, she’s had a traumatic childhood, and so pushes people away.
Really ….. can’t we just read a book for its content and not compare to other books? I’ve read the Fifty Shades of Grey series, and I can’t see any comparison!!
On Dublin Street by Samantha Young is a great love story. It’s entertainment and steam with a bit of crying and heartache in between. In other words, the perfect pastime.
This story is a really easy read and really easy to like. The characters are interesting and complex enough for you to forget the slightly clichéd ”filthy-rich, sexy and cocky guy meets young and beautiful woman who doesn’t want to be caught but falls in the end”-trope.
It’s hot and romantic. It’s the perfect read when you’re looking to be entertained.
I really enjoy stories with strong female characters. There’s nothing that gets me irritated as fast as wimpy, meek or overly undescisive women. Joss is strong and confident. She doesn’t make excuses and she takes what she wants, including some fuck-buddy nooky. She’s basically awesome.
But. Something that lowered the overall impression of the story, was the large number of spelling errors and typos. I don’t know if this is true for the paperprint as well. I read a Kindle version. But proof-reading is a thing and should really be applied, you know. English isn’t even my first language, so when I reflect on the numerous typing errors, it’s bad.
But in conclusion, this is a great book if you’re not looking for anything too heavy. You’ll get love and sexy-times interspersed with some drama. It’s the perfect mix. Just don’t expect to remember the plot after a few months, it’s quite forgettable.
