Three sisters: Camden, Maddie, Blaine. They have different life, thoughts, likes. Their future plans are a bit foggy, incertain.
“Every decision comes with a cost” : this is a say their mother use to tell them. In fact, life is full of decision, sometimes good, sometimes difficult.
In the book there are other interesting life topics to think about: Nature, workhaolic, trust, lies, friendship.
Reading the story you can laugh, cry, love the characters, dream. I recommend it, enjoy.
I really enjoyed this story and hopefully the start of a new series! I can’t wait to read more!
The story alternates between the father and his 3 daughters point of views of the current happenings on the Island and their lives. I really liked how the story was written and how it flowed. Great, steady pace with interesting, fun characters. I loved the description of the Island and some of the Islanders like Peg and Seth. I hope there will be more books in this series so I can read more about the camp’s growth and the sisters lives and what they choose to do.
This christian fiction and romance book focused on mending relationships, discovering purpose and direction in life, and love and forgiveness. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
In this charming novel the author introduces us to the Grayson family and a whole host of memorable characters in the first book in her Three Sisters Island series. As a longtime fan of Suzanne Woods Fisher I was pleased to see that she was writing contemporary fiction although I have absolutely loved every single one of her Amish fiction books that I have read.
I thought the premise of the book was really good but I have to admit that I would have been just as shocked as Cam, Madison and Blaine Grayson were had that happened in my family. Because having your father buy an island would surely surprise anyone. Although Cam and her young son Cooper are the main focus in this book we do see more of the family dynamic and the relationships the family has and have had in the past. Each of the three sister have a distinct personality and yes they sometimes clash but that happens, right?
One of my favorite characters is Peg Legg a nickname she doesn’t like but that doesn’t stop Paul Grayson from calling her that. Peg’s storyline is pretty humorous and unexpected, I mean who would run the Lunch Counter and General store without knowing much about cooking? Peg does just that and I loved the help she gets from Blaine who became my second favorite character. Seth Walker, the schoolteacher on Three Sisters Island is an unusual but likable character who I became fond of the more I got to know him.
Overall, I absolutely loved this book and the quirky but sweet characters. Is island living for me? No but I certainly enjoyed reading how the Grayson family, their friends and neighbors adapted to the lifestyle. There is one huge twist that I did not see coming but oh, how I loved it! This is a quick and fun read that would be perfect for a day at he beach or really anywhere you like to read.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher but was under no obligation to post a review. All opinions are my own.
What an interesting story. I really felt as if I was on Three Sisters Island and experiencing the quirky characters and inconveniences of island life in far northern Maine.
While this story does have its focus on the oldest sister, Camden, I enjoyed that her father and two sisters also had many sections of the book written from their points of view. It was interesting to see how each individual person viewed the family dynamics and their place in the family, while also reading about how others viewed them.
The romance was naturally built with a gentle progression that made sense for the story. I loved the various twists and turns that arose. These characters definitely have flaws and issues that have molded them into the people that they are in this book. It will be interesting to see how they grow and change emotionally in future novels. I enjoyed this story a lot.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I loved this book!
This is a well written book and I was immediately drawn in from the first page.
As Paul begins his journey to reinvent himself I could just picture it in my mind. He wants a closer relationship with his daughters, but he also wants them to connect and be closer. The author weaves words together that brings the characters and island to life for me. I must admit when I picked the book up I didn’t want to put it down.
This story centers around Camden, the eldest daughter, but I got to know each character as the story progressed. She is definitely a type A personality. Working in the corporate world has been her dream and she’s living it, but it comes at a big cost. Her loyalty has always been her best and only friend, Libby. Libby leaves her with a big responsibility, Cooper, but is she up for it? I loved how she developed and grew as a person.
I think the author touches on many elements in this book: faith, forgiveness, second chances, mystery, laughter, and love. I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series. This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone.
*I received this book from the publisher as part of their book bloggers program. I was not expected to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fans of Suzanne Woods Fisher will love this story of three sisters coming together on a rugged Maine island to refurbish a camp. On a Summer Tide is an enduring tale of love and restoration.
4.5 stars
“You don’t ‘earn’ purpose. . . .. . Our souls aren’t a matter of commerce, we’re a matter of faith.”
Camden Grayson is a purpose driven woman, obtaining multiple achievements in her career at the young age of thirty; lists and spreadsheets are her life blood, so when her widowed father goes off the grid by selling their family home in order to purchase a small island in Maine, she struggles to understand. Joining her two younger sisters and father, along with her anxiety-prone adopted son, Camden trudges to Three Sisters Island, expecting a short stay before her job grabs her undivided attention once again.
What the Grayson family discovers on the island is merely a dream, a dream that will take hours of dedication and weeks of purposeful renovation. Can they put their differences aside long enough to bring the old island back to life; possibly pulling out the weeds in their own relationships in the process? In other words, can they become a family once again. It seems that God knew what He was doing all along when Paul Grayson purchased a remote island off the coast of Maine.
Suzanne Woods Fisher has penned a lovely story, creating a captivating family saga where every member learns a little bit more about what love is, and conversely what it isn’t.

Family dynamics can be really messy. I can’t imagine a father selling his home (the children are grown, or nearly so); buying an island in the state of dishabille; AND expecting all three daughters to move there improve it. Maybe Paul Grayson truly has lost his mind.
Suzanne Woods Fisher writes about this widower’s family with three disconnected sisters in such a beautiful way that I found myself quickly mired in the quicksand of uncomfortable and dysfunctional family relationships.
Each sister is delightful, yet shortsighted in her own way, which leads to a mess for them and an intriguing story for us, the readers. The island and its wildlife sound wonderful, yet there are drawbacks.
Anybody not born there is a foreigner. No wi-fi. And a diner with a lady who can’t cook anything, let alone make coffee. I laughed and laughed over the silly antics until the tale wove back upon itself in a serious way that calls for tears.
So many worthy quotes.
“Mom always told us that life would surprise us with important choices, and our true character would emerge in how we responded.”
“…life was full of simple miracles if you just opened your eyes to them.”
“Life presents you with important choices. You can lash out, become bitter. Or draw closer to God, become better.”
“…it’s never too late to learn to listen.”
“We love each other, we tell each other the truth, and we keep working on things. That’s what families are all about.”
Woods leaves just enough threads dangling that I am anxious for the next book in the series already. Good discussion questions follow, making this an excellent choice for book clubs.
I received this complimentary book from the publisher and NetGalley. No positive review is required and all opinions are my own.
On a Summer Tide is the first book in Suzanne Woods Fisher’s Three Sisters Island series. She tells the story of family, friendship, and new beginnings. Three adult sisters, all with various issues in their lives, come together when their father sells their family home and buys an island without their prior knowledge. This is an enjoyable story that is rich in faith, community, and a bit of romance. A well written novel recommended for fans of contemporary fiction.
“You can’t live other people’s lives for them, even if you love them. Sometimes love means trusting them to make their own decisions.”
