All things must end.I learned that lesson the day my mother died.My step-mother was wicked. My step-sister, cruel. It was a relief when I revealed as an Omega because it was a chance to escape. But it wasn’t the end of my troubles. What happens to Omegas is a secret. And my troubles had just begun.“I can save you from one monster, Verity,” Lilly said when she accepted me into the program. “But I … one monster, Verity,” Lilly said when she accepted me into the program. “But I cannot save you from them all.”
True to her word, she saved me from my step-mother.
Then Woodrow entered my life.
And I realized he was the other monster Lilly had warned me about.
Publisher’s note: Omega Awakening is a prequel to the Controllers Series. It contains explicit scenes, triggers, manipulation/mind games, and dark themes.
Do yourself a favor and GET THIS BOOK! Trust me you have not read a grown up version of Cinderella until you’ve read THIS one! ~Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Alpha that stopped at nothing to get what he wanted, and he REALLY wanted Verity. Cue smexy times. I highly recommend! ~Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As always L.V. Lanes delivered a poignant story with powerful characters. No apology Alphas and intelligent Omegas who bring out the Beast. Smokin hot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is definitely my favourite book by L.V. Lane that I’ve read so far. Even though it has slight Cinderella themes cleverly woven throughout, this didn’t have a frivolous or fantasy feel to it. Verity and Woodrow were both wonderful characters who I quickly fell in love with. Despite Woodrow’s skewing of the odds, his conditioning of Verity, the depth and purity of his feelings for her were unquestionable, making it easy to forgive this domineering Alpha.
The recurring theme of lessons, along with being broken to produce something stronger, gave this story a richness and depth that simply wowed me. It skirted the line of dubious consent in that Woodrow manipulated Verity’s reactions at times. However there was no malicious intent to harm her in any way, indeed no-one could doubt how much he actually cared for her.
My attention was quickly caught and then easily held throughout reading this story, with a plot that was both challenging and full of unexpected events. The prose flows smoothly, leading to an effortless read, whilst the characters are engaging and interesting – even the disagreeable ones! I was actually quite sad to reach the end of the book just because of how invested I felt in this pair and their love for one another. I already own the next three books and will be bumping them up my TBR stat.
The Yin to his Yang
I’m a big fan of this series and this short story transports us back to the beginning
It is very loosely based on Cinderella
Verity is such a sweet little omega. She has so much fire in her but she knew how to navigate in turbulent waters to survive.
As a child, her world was tipped on its axis by the passing of her mother, but Varity holds fast to the belief that
” There are always lessons to be learned as we journeyed through life”
Raised under the manipulative and cruel hand of her stepmother she jumped at the opportunity to enroll in the omega program
Nothing could be worse than her current he ‘ll, right?
Oh, sweet Varity, you couldn’t be more wrong
Programmed – Conditioned – Betrayed
Even in the darkest of times, she knows there is a lesson to be learned
Things look bleak for our little heroine until a catastrophic event leads to her needing to defend herself
What happens next will turn everything once believed about empaths upside down
I’m going to come right out and say it
Woodrow? He is a manipulative cruel horse’s back end!
I didn’t like him here in this story
If it helps to know he gets better further in the series
It doesn’t mean you have to like him here.
Awakening does explain a lot of events that were mere shadow thoughts in previous books.
Oh my gosh! Omega Awakening was perfect! Beautiful, raw, steamy and sweet. I first admit, I was not a fan of Woodrew, but in the end, he won me over. I love how L.V. Lane made Woodrew a true Alpha but also showed his human side. Yes, I hate how he wooed Verity, but still, he showed how he cares for his sweet Omega. I love, love how sweet and kind Verity is! She is a wonderful Omega and she is truly one oh my favorite character in the Controller series! L.V. Lane has done it again and wrote another amazing novel! Omega Awakening is a must read!
Oh…my…goddess!!
I am such a huge fan of the Controller series – and this “prequel” type of edition didn’t disappoint!
This book had all my favourite things in this series, it had parts I recognized from Lily’s first book, making them slightly interlink – and I thought that was brilliant!
The book has a very good flow, I really loved the setting and how Verity’s experiences are taken as “lessons in life” throughout the book. She’s very young (18) and therefore has lived a very sheltered life – through her experiences in the hands of her stepmother and stepsister – has made her need to sort of “grow up” a lot earlier, she’s a sweet young girl, but again she is only 18 and I thought the author managed to portray this very good in several scenes where I, as a much older adult, could see “hey…wait…that’s OK, we all have a past”, but Verity being so young – sticks to a first conclusion sort of almost “over-reaction” at times – which I found very fitting.
I loved her as a person, I loved her powers and how Ms. Lane manages to show us how difficult it must be – to have this specific gift that Verity has. It’s mentally very exhausting, and though some times very positive – we are also shown the dangers of it when you are pushed to your breaking point.
I loved Lily in this book and our “first peek” of her right before her own Book 1, and as I said it was slightly interlinked with Lily’s first book, so we do recognize things from Lilly’s book, just from a different perspective.
Now…Woodrow…
He was a breath of fresh air, to be honest. He’s not an “alpha-hole” in the ways that we are used to in the other books – or Alphas in general.
He did remind me slightly of Lilly’s father actually, in some of his mannerisms.
Woodrow is far older than Verity, he’s in his early 40s, he’s been in the army (forced conscription for 10 years is the norm for any Alpha in this series) – but he was also a Controller whilst there, and he also continued being a military man type afterwards, he, for example, was very familiar with our dear Ethan Black – because Black used to be one of his operators. 🙂
So again we get this interlink with Lilly’s books.
I really loved Woodrow. He is very kind to Verity – his ultimate goal is to love her, show her love and give her and him a very happy, successful relationship.
But he’s also not something you wanna mess with – we do see him in some good ole action and the way he treats and conditions Verity is also familiar to the other books, though ofc they are not in the army or in the war – but their own home etc.
All in all, I thought this was a super sweet addition to the series, and I hope this isn’t the last we see of Woodrow and Verity.
Def. 5* from me!
(I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review)
Absolutely loved this one. Fantastic storytelling with beautiful world building, interesting characters, great dialogue and an alpha/omega bonding that was some of the best I have read. This was a fantastic twist on the Cinderella tale and I cannot wait for Lily’s story.
Verity Carmen just turned 18 years old and she wants nothing more than to escape the confines of her horrid stepmother and 15-year-old stepsister. She remembers when her life was beautiful, fun, peaceful, and filled with laughter, love, and imagination. Since the unexpected death of her mother, her father’s grief has led him to seek love with a Beta that became Verity’s wicked stepmother. Verity’s only chance of escape from this unhappy life is by being tested to find her dynamic.
Woodrow is a powerful Alpha that has been waiting for just the right Omega. He has money and power on his side, and he will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Even if it means breaking rules and using his influence. However, is Verity the Omega he has been waiting for, or did his impatience lead him to the wrong decision? Also, who is in control in this relationship—Woodrow the powerful Alpha or his sweet innocent Omega, Verity?
This novel was recommended to me by Bookbub. The blurb sounded interesting and I decided to give it a read since it was free on Kindle Unlimited. I had never read anything by this author before. I have only recently begun reading novels that feature the Omega-Alpha theme. This novel was dark. It was a page-turner as I read this book in two days and it took me that long because I had to work the weekend. There was deception, corruption, and confusion. My first complaint is the novel did not have as much dialogue as I prefer in my novels. There was a lot of description and thoughts, but not much actual dialogue. I did enjoy the author’s description of Verity’s confusion between her emotions and her newfound Omega abilities. I also like that although Verity started as a naïve and sheltered young woman, her abilities assisted her in gaining knowledge quickly and she was able to process it appropriately. My second and last complaint is the emotionality of the Omegas. Jeez, Louise! However, I enjoyed how the author used that excessive (in my opinion) emotionality as part of the learning process of an Omega. I enjoyed this novel so much, I quickly downloaded Book 3 in the Omega-Alpha series because it is about the other main female character in this novel, Dr. Lillian Brach.
I really enjoyed this prequel to the Controllers series. It gave me background information on the world changed by the Copper Virus. A very young Omega was forced to declare by an unscrupulous doctor and then “sold “ to an older Alpha. She volunteered for the program to escape her evil family. At first she is angry and resentful with her new life but over time she finds love and acceptance with her new life.
Also, male Omegas are introduced and also a female Alpha! Maybe she will have a role in future books!
Verity’s home life isn’t that great because her step-mother and sister treat her like dirt. The only way that Verity can escape her current situation is to become an Omega at the Research Center on Tolis. Woodrow is an Alpha looking for an Omega to claim, and he will stop at nothing to get the Omega he wants and he has is eyes set on Verity and will do whatever it takes to have her as his own. Woodrow is retired from the military, an Alpha, strong and commanding. Verity is thrown into a up hill battle with Woodrow. Verity needs to find a healthy balance with navigating the new Dynamic world with her Omega hormones, emotions, Singularity, and her current situation that she is in. This book was a great addition to the Controllers series and I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out.
Verity is our Cinderella, who has learned to keep her head down around her abusive step-mother and younger step-sister. Her father is no help and only seem to fuel more abuse should he show any concerns towards her. Living without knowing what your dynamic is has been a hardship for Verity as well so she is looking forward to being tested in hopes that her dynamic will be revealed. Woodrow, an Alpha within the power of the government, has been waiting for the perfect Omega. His long wait has finally paid off when he is told of Verity. She is the perfect Omega and he will go to any length to claim her for himself.
A different take on the Omegaverse universe as there are more than the regular dynamics of Alpha, Beta and Omegas. There is an age difference but other than it being mentioned once or twice, it doesn’t bother me at all or make much of a difference to the story line. Very good addition to the Omegaverse genre. Looks like there will be more in this series, so definitely will keep an eye out for this author and the next book.
First I love that it’s a Prequel to the entire series. I love that it provides insight into the background of several of the other books. Verity is such a young girl who has had a really hard life growing up with a father who loves her but can’t handle his own life after circumstances send both their worlds into a tail spin. Out of desperation she is pushed to volunteer herself to the program as an unclaimed omega to escape this life. Manipulated without even knowing it until much later, she naively believes everything is going as planned until Woodrow decides to move the schedule up. An older man, powerful in the political aspects of this time with his own secrets that will affect both of them. An older man determined to have his way and convince his young omega that they were meant to be together. Multiple stumbling blocks along the way, an older man who doesn’t always show Verity what he feels and a young girl who has trouble understanding the nuances of Woodrow who truly adores her. Mistakes are made, secrets are revealed and throw in some angst along the way with the Uncorrupted and you have an amazing novel of growing, maturing and learning what true love can really mean.
I rec’d this book as an ARC and am offering my own personal opinion.

Omega Yin to Alpha Yang
—>>> Dr. Lilly Brach recognizes something in Verity Carmen precious to protect when the eighteen year old shows up at her facility with her stepmother. Taking her under her wing, Verity undergoes intense viral treatment to awaken her Omega dynamic. However, Verity was soon discovered to be a rare Empath, and one very much sought after by the very impatient Alpha, Woodrow Brock. An Alpha, it seems, who would use every means at his disposal, to include his connections from his military background and those at his current council position, in order to get him the Omega he is quickly becoming obsessed with, now that he has been made aware of her existence. Verity’s life was quite reminiscent of a dystopian Cinderella’s, and we see her flourish under Woodrow’s devotion and patience. A lot of behind-the-scenes worthwhile information is given in this story, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of this series!
Okay, this is the second book that I have read from L. V. Lane and I think I am understanding the omegaverse a little more every time I read her books. Also Thank you L.V for putting the glossary in the front of the book. LOL anyways This book was had me from the go. Verity and her singularity is different and it is interesting to say the least. There seems to also be a little cinderella vibe only because of the treatment she received from her family. This also has some mystery which for had me needing to figure out more of what is going on with Verity. I felt bad for her as well because of her treatment in the facilty by the doctor. I love how you not only get the gritty and direct feeling of what is going on with the book. I gotta say, L. V. Lane has piqued my interest with the omegaverse genre.

A phenomenal and utterly thrilling story!
WOW! This story is amazing, thrilling, suspenseful, intense, emotional and so very sexy! I was on the edge of my seat utterly captivated and highly entertained with everything going on. It was one hell of a roller-coaster ride!
Verity is like Cinderella in a way. She’s broken by the loss of her mother and thrown into a highly volatile life with her new stepmother and stepsister. Her daily existence is about doing everything to please her stepmother – but it is never enough. She is completely unprepared for the life of an Omega. She has no clue what her life has in store for her.
Woodrow is one intense, growly, demanding and damn sexy Alpha. Verity has no idea what he has planned for her. Woodrow will do anything to get what he wants and he wants Verity. He is very demanding with Verity, but he softens up fast and you can see the love growing between them. Their relationship is explosive in every way and highly erotic. These two characters really grew on me and I came to love them in the end.
This story was really well written and was highly enjoyable to read. I love Omegaverse stories and L.V. Lane writes them so well! Her stories and characters are complex and full of emotion. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next.
Verity’s life was happy at one point. Her mother died as well as her happiness. He father remarried and her step-mother made her miserable and had a child. Verity tried to be nice and be a good big sister. She was just as evil as her mother. There was a program that her step-mother took her to. It awakens what you are. Dr. Lilly Brach took Verity under her wing. She felt for her and the life she had. The program took things too fast. Verity was an Omega and Empath. Then, Woodrow saw her and wanted her. He did things to help himself get picked by her. She learns many things that Woodrow did and about him that made her very angry. Can she forgive him? They went to a celebration, a ball, but things went south. An attack by the “Uncorrupted”. Woodrow and Verity get separated. Verity runs, Woodrow loses her and sets out to find her. Meanwhile, Verity gets captured. What happens next is beyond what anyone knew. can all be forgiven between them? Can they have their HEA? Read this great book and find out!
So, it took me a while to get into this series, namely because I didn’t wanted to get started on another series, because, well…Then I get no work done. But I’m glad I started on The Controllers. This prequel is a fabulous read.
Verity…Our poor, unprepared Omega. So sweet, so vulnerable, so broken.
Woodrow… Now, this is my kind of Alpha. I get so tired of these Omegaverse Alpha’s who have nothing in their toolbox but a hammer. Woodrow is different. He has more skills than some. Woodrow is calculating and sneaky, and uses other means to get what he wants when he knows brute force won’t do it.
I should have been appalled, but I wasn’t. Instead, I found myself chuckling at the clever perverseness of it.
Verity has rough go of it, poor little lamb. But despite the underhanded way Woodrow went about getting his Omega, it becomes very clear very early that he truly cares for the sweet girl. He’s a bit brutish, as most Alphas are, but he really, really loves that girl, and that’s nice to see.
The hints of history and tie-in’s for the other stories are nicely done.
Overall. Loved it.
I loved this Cinderella story! Verity was such a great Omega! And I loved hearing about her special talent that manifests after her awakening. It was super interesting to hear about how things happen after an omega awakens. Tho Verity has things that go against the normal. Woodrow was so super Alpha and possessive and willing to do whatever it took to get Verity and keep her. I liked his character a lot! He was willing to do so much to make her happy! Even if he went about it in a not so nice way.
4.5 stars
A creative take on the omegaverse genre which included multiple dynamics, not just the primary three, and a hint of Cinderella theme. This dystopian story involves an omega, the heroine, coming into her as yet unrealized dynamic after entering a special program. She had been living unhappily with her abusive stepmother, stepsister and almost absentee father. As one would expect, she eventually meets, or rather is drawn to, her Alpha and the adventure begins.
The storyline was engaging. The author was very creative in story development and again, I really liked the range of dynamics presented, including a charming omega male and singularities within dynamics themselves. I loved the relationship between the Alpha hero and his chosen Omega. The Alpha demonstrated those glorious characteristics of purring, growling, marking, and steamy rutting, and was so devoted to the Omega, attuned to her needs. The Omega was deferent as was her dynamic was wont to do, but not necessarily submissive, most often bratty, which made for a steamy, kinky and somewhat unpredictable relationship between the two. The side characters added dimension to the story as well as the dystopian themes of societal unrest, setting the stage for future stories.
I expected some sort twist or other element in a plot line as while distinctly creative in character development, the story predictably, linearly arrived to a happy ending. Still a great read and a standalone! Recommended for those who like omegaverse stories with something a little different.
Book 0.5 of the Controllers series by an Author I have not read before, it is a dark Cinderella Omegaverse romance story. Verity will have so much she has to overcome, there is suspense, drama, danger, villains, and romance with Woodrow. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I’m a huge fan of The Controllers series and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this prequel/Cinderella retelling. I’m happy to say that my excitement was completely justified. This story had everything my heart was yearning for and more. It’s action-packed, exciting, super steamy, and has a romance that would melt anyone’s heart. The writing is superb and has a lot of detail into both the setting and the characters so it’s easy to fall into and almost impossible to put down. I seriously didn’t put it down and read into the wee hours of the morning. It also made me want to go and re-read the entire Controller series. I am trying really hard to not give spoilers, but there are so many amazing things I want to say about this one. Instead, I’m just going to say that it’s the perfect romance story and I’m totally in love with it.
If you have read the ‘Controllers Series’ by Ms. Lane, then ‘Omega Awakening’ is a must-read as it explains how in this new dystopian world, individual dynamics surface naturally or forced and how this new dynamic shapes their future. If you have not read the ‘Controllers,’ this book will provide you with a strong premise for when you start reading book one of the series. The reader also gets a better understanding of who Dr. Lillian Brach is and her pivotal friendship in this story’s Omega – Verity and what occurs that finally has Dr. Lillian’s father invested in recruiting a controller for his daughter. We also get too ‘know’ Dr. Tsing better (regretfully), his interests in the Omega program and, in particular, his fascination and treatment of Dr. Lillian Brach. This story also gives us an in-depth ‘look’ into all areas of a ‘relationship’ between a chosen Alpha, Woodrow and an Omega Empath, Verity. A fascinating and wild ride that should not be missed!
