Daniel Kilcannon, the veterinarian known as the Dogfather, has been widowed for four years. He’s spent the time running the largest canine rescue and training facility in North Carolina and pulling some strings to make sure each of his six grown children find a love like the one he lost when his beloved Annie died. But as the years slip by, Daniel’s vow to never love again is starting to make him … him restless. When a woman who was pivotal to his past arrives in Bitter Bark, he wonders if her appearance is coincidence or the guiding had of his dearly departed wife…but the truth is neither. She’s about to change his life in ways he could never have imagined. And Daniel isn’t sure if his heart — or his family — will ever recover from the impact.

Daniel “The Dogfather” Kilcannon has achieved success and legendary status as matchmaker extraordinaire for his six children. As they all flourish in their “happy ever-after’s,” the handsome widower basks in their love and insists on dodging his kids’ efforts to fix him up with a match. Little does Daniel realize that 42 years prior, he just may have made such a match for himself…
The Dogfather series truly reaches its crescendo in this book centered on the Kilcannon patriarch. I loved every single book in the series so far, and would have been unable to pick a favorite – until now. This book……this book goes beyond giving you all the feels. It will make you laugh, cry, cringe and hold your breath. Expect your heart to beat faster at times and occasionally gasps come from your lips. I never suspected Ms. St. Claire would throw us this plotline, but she did – and did it brilliantly!
I will not give any spoilers, but all the Kilcannons, Waterford Farm and Bitter (Better) Bark are within these pages, in addition to a new family for us readers to fall in love with! Although I would have never guessed the storyline for Daniel beforehand, it is absolutely the story meant for him. This author’s writing is, as always, spot on. The story unfolds at the perfect pace and intensity, with third-person points of view of the main characters throughout. Does Daniel get his second chance at a HEA? Let’s just say I was not the only one who fell in love during the course of this book!
An awesome read. Daniel, aka The Dogfather has been busy matchmaking his children and now it is his turn. A second chance romance between Daniel and Katie, a short lived college romance. Both had wonderful marriages and suffered the loss of a spouse. Will they be able to open their hearts again?
This is an awesome read full of emotion, many happy and sad tears were shed. With a plot twist it will keep you turning the pages. Loved the romance between Rusty and Goldie, they were perfect for each other. Can’t wait to read the next book!! This was my favorite book of the series. I highly recommend this book along with the rest of the series.
To jigsaw puzzles? …We’ve been Dogfathered!
The wait for this book was well deserved and I’m still a bit book hungover. Daniel Kilcannon’s story is all heart, family and of course dogs. It can be read as a stand alone book, but as part of a 9 books series we know him as the wonderful man who has successfully matched his children and added a pack of precious dogs to the close town of Bitter Bark but has he being finally “Dogfathered”?
For this story Roxanne St. Claire transported us to the beginning and it is from here where everything comes together, or is it? We get the story of how Daniel and Annie Kilcannon came to be but also we met the other girl, Katie Rogers, who introduced this couple in the first place. Fast forward forty some years, a fateful encounter plus an adorable but labeled unadoptable dog and we have a beautiful story, full of color, first and second chances, hope and heartbreak, tears and laughter, food and dance. Like a jigsaw, or a good scavenger hunt thru all the series, I realized that Daniel Kilcannon truly deserved a second chance in love, that family (including the furry ones) will always be there for him but above all every human being deserves to be whole. Not for the first time I silently cried and laugh out while reading a Dogfather’s book and I’m looking forward to know what will happen to those Mahoney…because “You can’t…” …”Fight.”…”Fate.” …”She will win every time.” Def, Five shinning stars!
I received an ARC and these are my sincere thoughts. Also I purchased this book, (my collection will be incomplete without it) and I’m proud and happy to help the Alaqua Animal Refuge in my state of Florida.
Loved the story of the Dogfather getting his just desserts.
I enjoyed this story a bit more than I have the past few. I love that Daniel got another happily ever after!
Finally we get the Dogfather’s love story – which is only fitting since he’s helped his six children find their loves. As I read this story, I was torn between wanting to read faster so that I could find out what happens versus going slower to savor every part of the book. I found myself having an array of emotions and went from laughing out loud to crying at other parts. Both Daniel and his “new” love have done a great job of raising loving, close families. This book was definitely worth the wait! And I’m so glad this isn’t the last book for this series.
Old Dog New Tricks was absolutely perfect! Lovers of dogs, family and second chance at love will be thrilled with this new addition to the Dogfather series. I couldn’t wait to g et back to the story after taking a break. This is definitely one of those books that I will reread and savor.
Wow! What an absolutely amazing story! Daniel and Katie get their second chance at love after each of them had long and wonderful marriages and lost their spouse. This sweet, spicy romance is wonderfully heart warming, at times heart breaking, funny, full of drama and angst, and a can’t put down page turner. Their story has an unexpected and shocking twist that I didn’t see coming, but as in all things the Kilcannon’s rally together. After playing match maker to all of his children, the Dogfather with the help of his children and Katie’s gets his HEA. A whole new cast of characters is introduced in this book and has it overflowing with characters you want to know more about and that need the Dogfather’s match making skills. Rusty and Goldie add so much to the story and made this dog lovers heart smile. A wonderful story and series that is a must read and I can’t wait for the next book!
OLD DOG NEW TRICKS is a standalone with a HEA. Very romantic and sexy but nothing graphic with a play by play. If you have read any of this series then you know this book is about Daniel, the father of a big Irish family. This is a great story as Daniel finds himself facing a crisis with his family. This is a twist that I never saw coming. The story involves Katie, a girl he dated briefly in college is now back in his life over 40 years later. She is carrying a big secret, one that could possibly wreck his big family as well as hers. They each married others and never saw each other again after their brief relationship at college. Now, back in his life he is torn between thinking he has feelings for someone other than his beloved Annie.
This story is GREAT. There are scenes that will make you cry, scenes that will make you laugh and events that seem to have no easy solution. I LOVED this story. With all his children happy with their significant others it is Daniel’s turn to find if he has a chance at loving again. It is a great read and I highly recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 2/15/19.
Wow! This is one of the best books that I have ever read by Roxanne St. Claire! I have especially loved this Dogfather series not only because each story is so amazing but because they each feature a lovable canine. As a dog lover, it is definitely a bonus.
I have watched as Dr. K. has orchestrated love matches for all his children. Now, it is his turn to find his HEA. I loved every single thing about this book. The story of Daniel and Katie just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. It is such a beautiful and amazing romance.
I don’t want to give away anything and ruin this book for any other reader so I will just say it is a totally big 2 thumbs up. I really think the series should be read in order because you really get to know each character and fall in love with this wonderful family.
This is a beautiful, heartwarming, deeply emotional romantic journey that grabbed me right from the beginning and would not let me go….. if you love romance I highly recommend you read this one.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy of Old Dog New Tricks for an honest review. I honestly loved this book! I am not sure how Roxanne St. Claire continues to deliver such amazing stories, but she has outdone herself with Old Dog New Tricks. Each book in the series gets better and better. Old Dog New Tricks is Daniel Kilcannon’s story, the Dogfather himself. I am so glad that Daniel got his own story and a chance at another happily ever after. There were so many potential woman introduced in the previous Dogfather books, and each of his children was rallying for his or her favorite. None of those women was a perfect match for the Dogfather. Katie Rogers Santorini is a woman from Daniel’s past, whose own husband Nico died two years ago after a long battle with cancer. Katie has 5 children of her own, obviously more candidates for the Dogfather’s matchmaking abilities. Katie returns to Bitter Bark with a secret of her own. She has not been back to Bitter Bark since she left Vestal Valley College in 1976 to return home to Chestnut Creek and her one great love, Nico. Katie’s secret was discovered when her children agreed to what they thought was harmless DNA testing the prior Thanksgiving. The results of those test are life changing for both the Kilcannon and Santorini families. Daniel makes changes to his home to make room for Katie. But can he break the vow he made to himself, to never love again. This book is filled with so many touching and poignant moments, as both Katie and Daniel reminisce about their marriages. Of course there is a dog in the book. She’s a lovely red golden retriever, named Goldie that Rusty becomes attached to. They have their own story within a story. Roxanne once again includes her plot twist that is a deal breaker. Love her plot twists as much as I love her happily ever afters! Love getting caught up with the Kilcannons. Make sure you have your Kleenex ready, lots of tears were shed while I was reading Old Dog New Tricks. Highly recommend. Cannot wait for see how the Dogfather will work his matchmaking magic with the Mahoneys and Santorinis.
We’ve all been waiting for the time when Daniel, aka “The Dogfather”, would get a second chance as love after matching all of his children with their loves. Yea, the time has come!
The Kilcannon’s are great people with deep, deep love for each other and for their four legged friends. Daniel promised himself as his wife lay dying that he would never, ever love another woman. The appearance of a woman from his past challenges that promise. He must struggle with himself to see if he should have sworn that to start with. Is it what his beloved Annie would have wanted for him? What of his children? Would he be doing a disservice to them to get involved with another woman? His old friend, Katie, is not making it easy on him. Will his desire to love and to make love to her win the day? Katie sure hopes so! They share a secret that must come out. Will it destroy both of their families?
This book is filled with family issues, good and bad. There is drama galore, love, forgiveness and the eventual acceptance of circumstances that can’t be changed. This is a wonderful addition to the series!

I just love this series and I am so glad that Daniel got his story. Daniel has helped his children get their HEA and now they want to help him. He thinks there can only be one love and he had that with Annie. But, there is someone who makes him question that. Katie is an old friend and she had a wonderful marriage to a wonderful man and isn’t sure she will love again. But seeing Daniel after all these years, she thinks she might be ready after all. The problem is, she has a secret that could tear apart both of their families.
I love the Dogfather series of books by Roxanne St. Claire. I have been looking forward to Old Dog New Tricks because the Dogfather, Daniel, is finally going to get his happy ever after. As a widow myself, I was wondering how Roxanne would handle the story line. As I expected, she handled it perfectly. The story rang true to how one feels after loosing the love of your life and trying to navigate a life without your person to be by your side. I loved this book about Daniel and Katie, and know you all will also. I highly recommend the whole series as each story is well written and heart-felt.
This book is FINALLY Daniel “The Dogfather” Kilcannon’s story. After losing Annie, the love of his life and the mother of his 6 children, Daniel never thought any other woman could even create a flicker of interest in his broken heart…..but boy was he wrong. When a girl from his past, the same one who introduced him to Annie comes back into his life, he thinks that maybe Annie is trying to pull some strings to help Daniel move forward in his life. Unfortunately that is not the reason that Katie Rogers Santorini comes back around. Instead she has some information that is going to throw Daniel’s life into a tailspin.
As these two decide how to deal with the fallout her news has created, they start to spend a lot of time together, even meshing their two large families. Katie is now a widower and is ready to move on, but Daniel is not so sure. It will take all 11 kids, their spouses and grandchildren to be able to get these two to their happy ending….but man is it worth it!
If you have been reading this series, then be prepared for a really emotional ride….no I mean REALLY EMOTIONAL!!!! I loved Daniel and Katie’s back story. I loved the people they both have become and together they both deserved this happy ending. As with all the books in this series, there is a new dog, a new baby and a possible new romance. I’m so excited and cannot wait for the next book. Thanks for the perfection this story brought!
Wow! This book is full of emotion, the very best kind. Laughter, tears, swooning, sighing, hoping, loving. The story of Daniel and Katie, is a story of second chances, moving forward, family, hope, and love. When all of the Kilcannons and Santorinis come together, great things happen. And the greatest of those is new love for Daniel and Katie. I love all of the books by Roxanne St. Claire that I have read (and I’ve read most of them!), but this one is definitely my favorite! A great read that I highly recommend!
Old Dog New Tricks is the latest release in the Dogfather series from Roxanne St. Claire and all I can say is it was totally worth the wait! I’ve wanted Daniel Kilcannon’s book from the moment we met him in the very first book and I adored it from start to finish. While I feel like the woman who is Daniel’s second chance at love after the death of his beloved Annie shouldn’t have surprised me; I found myself completely shocked.
This story was full of surprises, pulled out every single emotion, and gave me hope for finding love again. I absolutely couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it, and loved every single minute of this story. Roxanne St. Claire gives her readers another story filled with laughter and tears, both happy and sad, along with many happy sighs. I highly recommend having a box of tissues handy while reading this beautiful story.
The Dogfather series of books is one of my favorite series ever from Roxanne St. Claire and I can’t recommend the entire series of books enough. I’ve loved watching each of Daniel’s children find their happily ever after. I loved we were introduced to so many new characters in Old Dog New Tricks, and will hopefully get many more books featuring the Kilcannon family and friends. I read Old Dog New Tricks as fast as I could the first time, and now plan to re-read it and savor each and every moment.

The Dogfather himself has finally been “Dogfathered”! By his own kids and they are thrilled to have pulled it off. They just needed a little help from a few new “friends”. I have been so excited and anxious for Daniel’s book to arrive. The story is so beautiful, touching, sexy, and heartwarming. I can’t say much without giving away the end. Daniel is reunited with someone from his past and he begins to question his past promise of only loving his “great love”, Annie Harper Kilcannon. Will this new/old friend be able to help Daniel realize that he has so much love and life left to give? It will be a struggle when she has her own struggles to get through as well. Some of her struggles directly involve Daniel. How will he cope? How will the Kilcannon family cope? As always there is a beautiful new breed of dog introduced into this story and plays such a beautiful, integral part of the story. The Kilcannon family continues to grow through births, weddings, and engagements. I love this family and sometimes wish mine was this big. All I want to say is that I LOVE Daniel’s story. I got a new Dogfather and Silver Fox book all in one and am in absolute heaven!! If you are looking for heart, love, family, strength, perseverance, and dogs then the newest Dogfather book, “Old Dog New Tricks” by Roxanne St. Claire is for you. For each book sold during the first month of sales the author will donate a portion of her sales to an animal rescue facility in her home state of Florida. Each dog featured on the cover is a rescue. I was priviliged to receive an ARC in exchange for a honest review. 5 stars*****
Perfect! This is the only way I can describe this story. You can feel the author has put her heart and soul into making Daniel’s story something really special. I have been waiting for his HEA since book one, after all Daniel had to get his kids their HEA first.
This is a story of secrets, second chances, big, wonderful loud, loving families. The reader will laugh, cry and cheer. Daniel is known as the Dogfather who has found perfect matches for his six children. Now they turn the tables on him when a woman comes to town who has a past with Daniel and a secret that can tear both their families apart. This book takes the reader on a journey with Daniel and Katie as they struggle to say goodbye to “their one and only” and say yes to a new love. This story was just pure romance! I have read many, many of Mrs. St. Clair’s books and can honestly say I have loved every one of them. She has such a talent for beautiful love stories, with lots of secondary characters, loud, lovely families and friends thrown in for good measure. The Dogfather Series is one of the absolute best out there, one you will want to read over and over again.
