Darryl is on a quest for peace. His chance at fatherhood was taken from him long ago, and an IED in Iraq ensured he’d never get another. In Big Falls, the McIntyre brothers hire him to keep an eye on their beautiful cousin Sophie in case her criminal ex shows up. He doesn’t expect to fall head over heels.Sophie McIntyre’s life was blown apart by a drug dealing ex who cost her her job and nearly … and nearly her medical license. She comes to Big Falls because she has nowhere else to go. And the minute she gets there, things start to get better.
Is it because of that letter to Santa her Aunt Vidalia convinced her to write?
Within days she meets a beautiful man with a deeply wounded soul. And oddly, she finds herself giving him the same advice the town Santa gave to her—try believing again, and if it’s too much to believe, then just try hoping.
Love, magic, and miracles ensue.
Because this is Big Falls, Oklahoma. Miracles are an everyday occurrence around here. Especially at Christmastime.

Maggie Shayne is a wonderful writer, I have read several of her books and will look forward to more!
A very sweet story and a clean read.
Easy and a fun read on a cold winter day.
A sweet Christmas story about Santa wishes that really come true when you believe enough to write them down.
I really enjoyed reading it. Great characters. Loved the family feeling in the book
It was a cute, quick read.
Darryl is in Big Falls to look after Sophie cause her cousins hired him to protect her without her knowing it cause she’d never stand for it. Sophie had a crazy ex- fiancee that was a little crazy. Sophie is in Big Falls from New York to get away from her crazy ex-fiancee! They never planned to fall head over heels!!! A great standalone with an HEA and a some unexpected twists!!
Good book
I felt the book was rushed. It tried to delve in to heavy topics, but it didn’t take the time to develop them. I enjoyed it, but I thought it missed an opportunity to say some important things.
An enjoyable read with well developed characters.
As sweet as a Hallmark movie. Decent writing (Maggie Shayne, duh!) and editing. A bit of feel-good fluff for your holiday weekend.
It had a feel good story for Christmas!
Loved it! Good happy read!
An enjoyable Christmas story with some nice surprises. This would make a terrific Hallmark movie.
Perfect story for this time of year!
Do you ever wonder about why things happen to you in your life? Being almost Christmas of this awful year of the pandemic of 2020, you might think the future looks pretty bleak. Daryl’s life for the past 17 years looked pretty bleak. After serving in the military and suffering the consequences of his injuries when struck by an IED, he knew he could never father a child. Likewise, Sophia’s life looked pretty bleak as well. She decided to write a letter to Santa when a friend advised her to. She wrote all the things in that letter that she could think of. Then one by one, each item in her letter started to come true. She advised Daryl to do the same. However, he highly doubted that the one about becoming a father would ever come true. Maggie Shayne has a way of writing in all these miracles to make them very believable. As each hope of Sophia’s and Daryl’s hearts start becoming a reality my heart began to overflow and then the dam burst from my eyes. This is truly a heartwarming story and perfect for this time of year.
