Brilliant, but overworked California accountant, Rachel Mills, inherits an old bookstore in Marietta, Montana, just as she’s been passed over for a huge promotion. The smart thing to do would be to buckle down and keep on working. But for the first time in her life, she goes with impulsive and books a flight to Montana to inspect the bookstore, and hopefully have her first white Christmas ever.… ever.
Texan lawyer and entrepreneur, Atticus Bowen, has found the perfect location for his next restaurant—the two-story, turn-of-the-century brick building on Marietta’s Main Street. All he has to do is convince the new owner to sell Paradise Books to him. After all, used bookstores aren’t practical or viable businesses, and he’s making Rachel Mills a very generous offer. But instead of jumping on his offer, Rachel decides she’s going to open the bookstore doors for December and ‘explore her options.’
The last thing Rachel expected was to fall in love with the old bookstore, or charming Marietta. She never expected sparks to fly with handsome, arrogant Atticus Bowen, either. Smart, practical Rachel realizes she just might be falling in love with the sexy, opinionated Texan lawyer — something that could prove to be neither smart, nor practical….or the best decision of her life.

First off, how can you not love a character named Atticus!? I’m often drawn to character names before the blurb is even fully read. This was one of those times.
Rachel and Atticus drew me in and kept me involved and invested in their love story. The addition of the bookstore was inspired, especially set during Christmas in Marietta. I love to visit this little town, but especially at Christmas when the magic of romance is at its peak.
Everything about this book is wonderful and is sure to delight new Jane a porter as well as longtime fans.
If you enjoyed Jane Porter’s Sheenan and Douglas’ series, you will love Oh Christmas Night. A sweet, small town romance in Marietta, Montana is just the story to get you in the mood for the holidays! Jane has a knack for bringing Marietta to life; I feel as if I can envision the streets and lovely little shops. I was captivated once again by the characters, their story and how they came together. I highly recommend you read this fabulous story!
A heart warming emotional Christmas romance set in Marietta. Rachel an overworked accountant, who once again been passed up for a promotion finds out that she was a gifted a bookstore in Marietta. She is not a book worm but wants to see what she has. When she arrives in Marietta she meets Atticus, who wants to buy the bookstore to turn into a steakhouse. Rachel never expects to fall in love with the bookstore, the town of Marietta and Atticus.
This is book that brought out so many emotions, sad and happy tears. Loved how Rachel found true happiness in the bookstore, life can be simple. It’s not Christmas without a visit to Marietta!! I highly recommend this wonderful story!!
Love the book cover, love the town of Marietta ,Montana, love the storyline surrounding the bookstore, characters Atticus and Rachel.I love any book from this talented author ,I have picked out my next read which is hard coming from one who wrote over 400 of them but, I managed to pick Take A Chance on Me because I love the book cover!!!
With Jane Porter’s Oh, Christmas Night, I think I’ve found my 2019 Christmas romance. Practical accountant, Rachel, has been passed over for a huge promotion just as she inherits an old bookstore. She impulsively decides to head to Montana to check out the bookstore. Texan lawyer and entrepreneur, Atticus, thinks the old bookstore is the perfect location for his next restaurant.
I love JP characters, Rachel and Atticus are no exception. JP weaves the story precisely where it needs to go, develops the characters, and has their chemistry pulling you into their relationship enough to keep the pages turning.
After being passed over for a promotion, Rachel is gifted a bookstore as if by serendipity. Needing to make decisions about her life and work, she travels to Montana to assess the store. Not a book girl, as she learns about the books, she finds family history and develops a connection to the town, store, and most importantly–herself. She’s also dealing with Atticus who wants to buy her store for the location, and she’s slowly losing her heart to him.
Atticus wants the location of the now closed bookstore for his new restaurant, and he’s sure the new owner will sell to him, but she won’t say yes. They hang out together, decorate her store, have an open house, and as they spend moments together, the connection is real. While he wants the location, he won’t force her hand.
Rachel must make decisions which could alter her lifestyle and force her out of her comfort zone, putting her heart on the line. Atticus is patient, but he’s businessman. Can these two find the middle road which will give them a happily ever after and give them everything they want, plus a life together, or are the obstacles to great to overcome? A little Christmas magic may push them toward the right choice.
A wonderful and heartwarming Christmas romance.

This is Rachel Mills and Atticus Bowen’s story.
Rachel Mills felt positively ill. She sat down at her desk, and covered her face with her hands, struggling to breathe.
She didn’t get the promotion.
She’d been passed over, again.
Her throat thickened and her eyes burned, hot and gritty. It didn’t make sense. No one in her department had more experience, or a better work ethic, than she did. No one at Novak & Bartley put in more hours, or handled more, clients than she did.
Atticus Evan Bowen, much like his namesake Atticus Finch, was an attorney from the South, unlike the fictional Finch, Atticus Bowen was from Houston, Texas, not Maycomb, Alabama, and his specialty was real estate law.
Atticus loved making deals, and nothing was more rewarding than closing a very challenging deal. After a stint as a litigation attorney, he’d switched to real estate law and had found his niche because he wasn’t afraid of hard conversations and tough negotiations. Where others might shrink from conflict, he felt encouraged, even empowered. Through experience he’d learned to rely on reason, not emotion, and so far, reason had never let him down.
His mother—who’d named him Atticus because To Kill a Mockingbird was her favorite novel—had said that her Atticus was pragmatic from the start, refusing to put in an appearance for nine days after his due date, choosing to stay put until the torrential rains flooding Houston had ended, and the streets had dried. No, Atticus Bowen was nothing but practical, and he exhausted his parents and teachers with his logic, as well as his ability to withstand stress and uncomfortable situations, virtually guaranteeing that, in the end, he got what he wanted. As a boy, it was winning chess tournaments and baseball games. As an adult, he acquired buildings, businesses, opportunities.
I highly recommend reading.

Oh, Christmas Night
A sweet romantic story set at Christmas time. Two people with issues and disappointments come together for the desired HEA. Set in my favorite fictional town, this story makes me want to read more of the author’s work.
“Dreams can change”
I love romances books set at Christmas time. I especially enjoy the romances set in Marietta with the tight-knit, supportive community. They have the must haves for a Christmas story – cold and snowy, small town community, decorations, traditions, and holiday magic. Oh, Christmas Night has all of those. I really liked both the main characters. Their relationship was set at a good pace, and though they had obstacles to overcome, they got their HEA in a realistic way after realizing their dreams and goals had changed. Jane has created a wonderful, emotional romance. The epilogue was perfect. I read the ebook version, but am buying it in print for my keeper shelf.
Cute and sweet
I always enjoy revisiting Marietta.

Oh Christmas Night by Jane Porter. This is Rachel Mills and Atticus Bowen’s story.
Things are not going the way Rachel planned for her life. At a turning point in Rachel’s life she inherits a book store that hasn’t been opened in years. Atticus wants to buy the building for a restaurant that he wants to open. But as time goes on Atticus begins to change and he is there to support Rachel with whatever she wants to do with the bookstore. Rachel has a hard time letting her guard down. Will she continue her life not letting people in or will she take chances?
I enjoyed this sweet Christmas story. I could picture the book store and wanted to go help Rachel sort through the books I love this little town of Marietta and the people.

Rachel and Atticus’ love story in Oh, Christmas Night by Jane Porter was a wonderful, amazing, emotional and enjoyable tale. In the aftermath of being passed over, once again, for a large promotion, overworked Californian Rachel Mills discovers that she has inherited an old bookstore in Marietta, Montana, the town where her mother grew up. Being frustrated and unsure with her life she flies to Montana to inspect the bookstore and the town. Atticus Bowen is a Texan lawyer and entrepreneur who believed he has found the perfect location for his next high-end steak restaurant, a closed bookstore on Marietta’s Main Street. All he needs to do is convince the new owner of Paradise Books to sell the building to him. Instead of taking his overly generous offer, Rachel decides to open the bookstore and see if the store is viable. Not one to relax, Rachel digs into the books and although logical, practical, and more comfortable with numbers she finds herself falling in love with the bookstore and all the inscriptions she has found in many of the books. Atticus spends part of each day at the bookstore, not to pressure Rachel, but to offer support and assistance in her endeavor. Spending time together, Rachel and Atticus talk and get to really know and understand each other; discovering an attraction growing between them. These two definitely have electricity sparking off of them, enough to light up the bookstore. Rachel freaks out when she realizes she is falling in love with Atticus as she is not quite ready to handle all of the emotions hitting her at once. Fleeing Marietta and returning home to California allows her to analyze the situation. What she didn’t expect was not only to be offered the denied promotion but how much she missed Atticus. Opening her heart to feelings and emotion might be normal for most people, but it’s a leap of faith for Rachel as she decides to share her feelings with Atticus.
Ms. Porter is an amazing storyteller who wrote a wonderful story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Rachel and Atticus a chance at love, happiness, and a future neither expected. I highly recommend Oh, Christmas Night to other readers.

Oh, Christmas Night by Jane Porter is a wonderful story full of well developed and loveable characters who will tug at your heartstrings. This is a well written story that would make a perfect Hallmark Movie!
I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to Author Jane Porter for allowing me the opportunity to express my honest opinion.
Oh, Christmas Night by Jane Porter
Starts out with Rachel Mills and she’s so disappointed that she did not get the promotion.
She works as an accountant and a man got eh promotion. She’d been the one that had been there the longest.
She receives a package from her godmother and sends a key with Big Sky written on it. It’s her book store in Marietta, Montana!
She starts to think all the work she had put into her job and it was going nowhere, maybe time for a change?
Story also follows Atticus Bowen who’s a real estate lawyer. He hopes to acquire the building in Marietta and bring his restaurant/steak house there.
They both have arrived in Marietta and discover the town on foot.
Love they are at Marietta during the holidays as the festivities are endless….
She needs to prove to him that she can make a go of it with a profit and like her new job of running the bookshop. Shouldn’t be too hard with the supply of books she has to offer and it is Christmas.
Love how the other business in town help her out. She knows he only wants her building. He keeps telling her he wants her to succeed….
Unexpected ending and like it.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
Hallmark please make this book into a movie quickly. As I read Oh, Christmas Night by Jane Porter it felt like I was watching my favorite channel on TV. Of course I was back in my fictional hometown of Marietta with a large hot coffee and watching this wonderful love story unfold like while catching up with many of my favorite Mariettans. Neither Rachel Mills nor Atticus Bowen are natives to Marietta, but if you are familiar to this amazing little town in Montana, that doesn’t mean much. As this town has a special magical quality about it that seems to know when people just belong there. Atticus has wanted the bookstore that Rachel’s godmother own but has closed down for 18 months. BUT she has always told him no. Now she has gifted it to Rachel. Now he has to deal with Rachel if he wants to get the building for his high end steak house. Rachel decides to leave Cali to visit Marietta during Christmas after a disappointing time at her job. Click, Click things seem to fall into place … Marietta the town is magical or is it her godmother? I loved the amount of details in the book. I could see the library inside and out. The windows, the beautiful tree. Rachel’s upstairs room. Even the events that happen in the night. I could hear them and jumped myself when I read them. The sign of a great book is when you are so involved in the book that you react like you do when you are watching a movie. I reacted from the first page until the end. What a wonderful book that I can’t wait to see on the tv on day.
I was offered this ARC from the publisher and couldn’t say yes fast enough. Jane Porter is a new-to-me author, but Christmas and bookstores are a huge selling point with me. I’m glad I took this ARC, I enjoyed the story and I’m sure I’ll read more of this author’s work. And though I did like the story, there was something missing.
Seeing Rachel open up to having friends, and even more, through this story was beautiful. That part of the book was written with such a keen eye and really made me feel for teenage Rachel and want to help adult Rachel reach her full potential in all things, not just business.
On the other hand, though I really enjoyed the character of Atticus, I didn’t feel I really got to know him. I also had the feeling he is possibly a crossover character from this author’s other stories since he seemed to have a deep connection to Marietta and some of the residents. So, it’s quite possible long time readers of this author didn’t get those same feelings about Atticus as I did.
While Atticus and Rachel fell in love pretty quickly, it wasn’t what I would expect from insta-love. This, to me, comes down to a case of being told and not shown. I very much believe this couple could be perfect for one another. But I don’t feel I was shown that enough throughout the story. Sure, they had a connection to a certain extent. Yet I didn’t feel it much beyond friendship with what I was given.
Oddly enough, there were definitely times in this story I got tears in my eyes. Most of that had to do with Rachel facing her past and not to do with her budding relationship with Atticus.
Like I said, I’m sure I’ll seek out more from this author. I enjoyed so much about this story. It just didn’t wow me.
**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely**
Just a wonderful story! Exactly the kind of uplifting story that Jane Porter would write!
This is the story of Rachel Mills and Atticus Bowen.
Rachel is an overworks accountant from California. She inherits an old bookstore in Marietta, Montana. She has just been passed by for a huge promotion at work, so she goes to Montana to inspect the bookstore.
Atticus is a lawyer and business owner from Texas. He thinks he has found the perfect location in Marietta for his next restaurant. He loves the two story, turn of the century brick building on a corner on Main Street. He goes to Marietta to convince the new owner of Paradise Books to sell him the building with a very generous offer.
Even with the idea that a used bookstore isn’t practical or viable, Rachel decides to open the bookstore while she figures out what she wants to do.
What she never figured on was falling in love with the bookstore or Marietta. She never expected the chemistry between herself and Atticus. She is very practical after all, while Atticus comes across as opinionated and arrogant. Could all this be the best decision of her life? Or should she admit defeat and go back to her orderly life in California?
Life is short.
Life doesn’t always go as we planned and sometimes it takes a wrench in those plans for us to realize they were the wrong plans.
A very enjoyable small town romance.
Oh Christmas Night is the perfect book to read when trying to capture the holiday spirit. It is set in the magical town of Marietta, Montana which is filled with the Christmas spirit. Rachel visits Marietta when she is gifted a bookstore. Atticus has his eyes on buying the bookstore and converting it into a steakhouse. I love how the character’s relationship grows throughout the book. Rachel has suffered great loss in her life and is afraid to open her heart to love. She is very relatable and lovable. Atticus is a charming guy who captures your heart.
Jane Porter is one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style. I always look forward to reading her next book. She expresses the characters and the setting very realistically.
Rachel Mills knows that numbers and mathematics will never cause her emotional pain. She believes in logic. She will never be hurt again. Her mother’s death taught her that love can break you. I was drawn to Rachel. She’s internalized her feelings. I wanted her to learn to laugh and to love. I wanted Rachel to embrace her new opportunity. Paradise Books can give her a new perspective on life. I hoped that Marietta would enchant her just as it did me. Will it bring back memories of her mother? I hoped so. Atticus Bowen is there to convince Rachel to sell the store. I was amazed at how hard he worked to support Rachel. I loved that he wasn’t an adversary but a partner. He was so charming and good hearted. What a keeper! He showed her compassion and caring. Jane Porter outdid herself with this sweet holiday romance. The characters, both old and new, warmed my heart. The setting and the sparkling dialogue filled me with happiness. Oh, Christmas Night was perfection. This story put me in the holiday spirit.
