Brilliant, but overworked California accountant, Rachel Mills, inherits an old bookstore in Marietta, Montana, just as she’s been passed over for a huge promotion. The smart thing to do would be to buckle down and keep on working. But for the first time in her life, she goes with impulsive and books a flight to Montana to inspect the bookstore, and hopefully have her first white Christmas ever.… ever.
Texan lawyer and entrepreneur, Atticus Bowen, has found the perfect location for his next restaurant—the two-story, turn-of-the-century brick building on Marietta’s Main Street. All he has to do is convince the new owner to sell Paradise Books to him. After all, used bookstores aren’t practical or viable businesses, and he’s making Rachel Mills a very generous offer. But instead of jumping on his offer, Rachel decides she’s going to open the bookstore doors for December and ‘explore her options.’
The last thing Rachel expected was to fall in love with the old bookstore, or charming Marietta. She never expected sparks to fly with handsome, arrogant Atticus Bowen, either. Smart, practical Rachel realizes she just might be falling in love with the sexy, opinionated Texan lawyer — something that could prove to be neither smart, nor practical….or the best decision of her life.

Jane Porter is so good at writing relationship and fantastic romantic stories, adding in Christmas is a perfect bonus!
When Rachel finds herself standing in the old book store in Montana, away from her California home, she really tries resist falling in love with the store she inherited.
I LOVE how Atticus really thought he would just worm his way into Rachel’s life to buy the old book store so he could open up the perfect restaurant.
Rachel isn’t about to take his first offer.
The tension and sweetness Porter put on the pages for Rachel and Atticus kept me up at night rooting for them. It’s hard not to write a great review without giving away too much. I could feel both the heart of Atticus and Rachel as they weaved their stories into each other’s lives. My heart is filled with the Christmas spirit now thanks to Jane Porter!
I’m a sucker for books about bookstores, for books about Christmas and for books with small town charm. Oh Christmas Night has all three. I especially loved how the inscriptions on a bunch of old books plays into the plot. The ending left me teary-eyed and happy…in other words, it was exactly right.
Oh, Christmas Night has two of my favorite things: small town at Christmastime and a bookstore! For those who have read any of Jane Porter’s stories set in Marietta, you’ll see a few familiar faces. For those new to the setting, the heroine is too, so you’ll get to explore the town through her eyes! It’s a wonderful place to spend the holidays! I could really feel for the heroine (though I would love for someone to gift me a bookshop!) as she tried to figure out what to do. The hero could have gone two ways with this plot, but he proves himself to be a really good guy, time and time again. And the ending. Sigh… It was the perfect end to this sweet, heartwarming Christmas romance.
Love all of Jane Porters series!
I always love a Jane Porter Christmas story!
Jane Porter never disappoints. This beautiful Christmas story, starring Atticus (love that name!) and Rachel is one everyone can relate to about finding your dreams in unexpected places and love when you least expect it. In Marietta Montana! I loved these two characters and rooted for them from page one. And can we say ‘yes please’ to a man like Atticus, who loves Rachel and isn’t afraid to show it? Well done, Jane Porter.
Who doesn’t love a Christmas romance from one of the greatest authors out there? Go forth and buy, dear readers.
I don’t need any excuse to visit Tule Publishing’s stories set in Marietta, Montana. In fact, I’m always anticipating the next. I absolutely love the Montana Born books this publisher offers. In fact, I find a lot of new favorite authors. Oh, Christmas Night was a sweet, endearing story. Not only did this novel give us a true love story, but also a Christmas experience; Marietta style. In addition, Jane Porter is an author I have read many times over and her writing is incredible. Her talent for storytelling is the main aspect why I keep coming back for more.
Rachel Mills, a successful accountant in California has once again been passed over for a promotion she believes should have been hers. She is dealing with the stigma of being a woman in a business in which it’s blatantly obvious if she were a man, she’d have had a promotion years prior. Is Rachel wasting her time with this company? If so, what other options does she have career wise?
When Rachel receives the gift of a bookstore in Marietta, Montana she is flabbergasted. Her godmother wants Rachel to take over the store and make it her own. Of course, Rachel isn’t interested in moving to Montana, yet she is intrigued enough to go and see this store.
Atticus Bowen is a real estate lawyer and restaurant owner. His next endeavor is to open one of his restaurants in Marietta. He wants the bookstore. But as badly as he wants the building, he does not want to undermine Rachel. He makes a generous offer but Rachel has decided to think about it while opening the store and see if it will be profitable.
I very much enjoyed the banter and growing attraction between Rachel and Atticus. Let me say here that while Atticus is the epitome of sexy, successful, wealthy business man, he is first and foremost a gentleman. Atticus was kind, considerate and generous. I truly adored his character. Rachel on the other hand has had a tough past. It’s one of the reasons she needs to be successful. because of her past, Rachel is a no-nonsense, overachiever who wants nothing more to be taken seriously and be successful. Sadly because of this, Rachel is a bit boring and a lot standoffish. So, it took me longer to connect with her. However, her persona began to change soon after her arrival in Marietta.
There were so many sweet moments between Rachel and Atticus. Towards the last chapters, the angst began to build and you could literally feel what was coming. Insecurity took a hold of Rachel and almost cost her the love of a great man. I enjoyed this book very much. I also loved getting to read about some of my favorite Marietta citizens.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
I can picture this story as a hallmark movie. Rachel is an accountant that is fed up with being passed over for promotions. At the perfect time she inherits a book store in Montana in this cozy little town that her mother was from. There she meets Atticus who is a businessman who wants to buy the store for the location and do away with the books. Rachel decides to spend time there checking out the books and getting to know the people including Atticus. Never expecting to care about the books, the store or even Atticus. Never expecting her ideas and dreams could be changing from the goals she set for herself years prior. Never expecting love. The story at times for me was a little dull but overall an enjoyable read especially for a Christmas story. I’m sure others will love it. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing
So I will start by saying that you must read this book for yourself it is a really, really good book about two people who each have control issues but compliment each other perfectly.
Leslie was a friend of Rachel’s mother and Rachel has not seen Leslie since her Mother’s funeral. Once day Leslie gives Rachel Leslie’s boRachelokstore that Leslie has been running for over twenty years.
Atticus has been calling Leslie for over eighteen months truing to buy the bookstore from her because he wants that location for his new upscale steakhouse. One day when he calls Leslie she tells him that she has given the bookstore to Rachel and she will need to talk to Rachel about buying it from her.
So Atticus heads to Marrietta and meets Rachel to try and talk her into the selling him the bookstore, however, she isn’t what he was expecting and his goals change.
I really loved this book.
When you inherit a book store in Montana can you really leave a job you have worked so hard for and return to Montana and find the man you have fallen in love with waiting for you at the airport and realize Montana is the place you really belong as long as is by your side.
Great characters and story
Loved this book No fluff (nothing there that did not need to be there. I lived along with the main characters, Could almost see where the story was going but not quite. Love the backdrop, Montana. Easy reading. Do not understand the title “Oh Christmas Night” but that does not matter it is still a great read.
Oh, Christmas Night was my first Jane Porter novel, and it might be my last unfortunately. I never like to judge an author off of one book but this one just didn’t do it for me at all. Let list me the reasons…
CONS & oh there were plenty
– Rachel was NOT a likeable character until the last five pages, and even then, that might be a stretch.
-Atticus, the name. I mean it is a story about a bookstore then you name one of the characters after one of the great American novels? really?
-You get a bookstore from your godmother for FREE and not once do you try and call, reach out, send a email or hell a carrier pigeon? Yes, she did eventually but most people wouldn’t have waited that long.
-Their love story was 100% unbelieve from start to finish. Suddenly you are going to give up your dream to support this new girl whom you’ve spent all of 10 hours with?? Come on!
-Rachel seemed very ungrateful for a lot of the things she was practically given.
Now, the pros were far less but the beautiful Montana setting is always a win for me and despite Atticus being a bit dopey at parts he had a great personality and charm. I have to admire that, but honestly this wasn’t a win for me, and it sucks because the blurb made this book sound incredible.
Obviously if you have read other reviews then you know I am in the minority here because most reviews for this book were incredible. I might just be judging to harshly and I feel terrible about it because I don’t do it often. Try the book though, it wasn’t bad just a bit bland for me.
Wonderful story – loved how the feelings and emotions were so real and how love conquered all. Took a couple twists that were unexpected – but that makes it even better. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
A good Christmas story. You will fall in love with the main characters . Rachel and Atticus and the wonderful small town of Marietta Montana. Rachel is gifted a bookstore from her Godmother. She has to decide if she wants to keep it as she really is not into books. Her career has been an accountant as she loves figures. This story takes you on a wonderful adventure that you will love reading.
Cute easy romance. Confused lady gets a book store and falls for the handsome man that wants to buy the bookstore building. Will she keep working as an accountant or get together with handsome perfect rich man? hmm easy answer.
Cute rom com.
It may be because I read this out of order in the series, but I didn’t quite understand the characters or their motivations. It was a lovely quick read, and I’m glad I read it, but it didn’t quite hook me. I think I’ll try starting at the series beginning.
This was a great read .and I would recommend it to family and friends
