What’s life like on the tenure track?
For Assistant Professor of Sociology, Dr. Deja Evans, it sucks. Hard. Every day.
Between the class prep, the meetings, grading student work, trying to find time to complete her own research and the meetings, she didn’t have a life, she had a digital calendar that decided whether she got to wallow in her feelings at 3pm or 7pm, on Thursday or maybe Sunday. … 7pm, on Thursday or maybe Sunday. And the worst meeting of them all was the two-and-a-half-hour, once a month Faculty Senate, which was drier than her dating life, duller than her skin in winter and far longer than her attention span.
The only thing that made those never-ending Faculty Senate meetings bearable was watching Dr. Alejandro Mendoza, Associate Professor of History, breathe. For years, Deja had harbored a kind of secret crush on the sexiest man on campus never thinking that he would ever feel the same, until one unexpected day, they have a steamy after hours encounter in her office and suddenly her life seems much more exciting.
That lasts about half a minute.
Over the course of a hectic academic year, Deja tries to survive her classes, help her students, prepare herself for her third-year review, and most important of all, she has to learn how to get out of her own way and just let Alejandro love her.

WHEW. Katrina Jackson does it again. This book was so fluffy AND steamy, which is my all-time favourite combination. If you want an efficient shot of satisfied smiley FEELS straight to your heart, read Office Hours. If you want mutual horniness and an amazing, sharply dressed, considerate and supportive hero straight out of your dreams, read Office Hours. If you want a relatable heroine who is just trying her best and is also extremely crush-on-able, read Office Hours. Basically, I am begging you, read Office Hours. I just want to improve your life.
Loved Deja and Alejandro. Deja was easy to root for, and it was heart-breaking watching her struggle to balance having a demanding, tenure-track job with her self-care and self-esteem. I really appreciated that Jackson shined a light on the challenges of being a woman of color in academia. Deja had great friends but not a lot of support in her department. Alejandro was her soft place to land. Having him in her life didn’t “fix” any of her struggles, but I loved that he was such a supportive boyfriend. The smexy scenes were fabulous too.
Just a wonderful read. Looking forward to more in the series.
Loved it! Wish there was a sequel
Perfect Sweet Heat
The best way to describe Office Hours is “office romance meets scorcher” as Katrina Jackson knows how to turn up the heat between these two lovers!! This book is very low angst and just filled with a happy meeting of two professionals & seeing a hard-working woman get the happy, supportive, hotter-than-sin man, she deserves. A nice choice for audiobook between darker options.
A narrator like Welseigh Sibohan means that you’d get the perfect performance of dialog. Her voice makes even the day-to-day events in Deja’s life as a college professor trying to make tenure sound thrilling. New-to-me voice Gomez Pugh brought depth to the narrative of Alejandro & delivered the heat when needed. Personally, I thought the 3rd person narrative from his point of view went back towards reading instead of performing, but I still enjoyed the timbre of his voice throughout the tale.
I listened to this on audiobook on it was spectacular.
Hang in there, your arms get stronger! Deja, has had a crush on Alejandro for years. She is weighed down trying to attain tenure. All parts of her life are squeezing her. Good news, Alejandro tilts his brows at her. Her life is looking up! This is a fun story. Deja, gets a boost in life and life is good. Will Alejandro go the distance? Does Deja find energy and agility to juggle her academia and her personal life? Great story. Well done. I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this read. Th author did a fantastic job of painting the realities of young faculty of color and balancing that with a steamy happily-ever-after. It is a medium burn and I loved the both characters. I also felt the dialogue was witty and appropriate.
As an academic, I’m always wary when I come across a romance in a university setting. I’m not certain what I expected when I picked up Katrina Jackson’s “Office Hours” but sheer enjoyment wasn’t at the top of my list. Office Hours is just that, sheer bliss. It’s pacing is pitch-perfect and I love the smoldering chemistry between Deja and Alejandro. I also loved that Deja was both together and shy. This is a wonderful read, such joy. Kudos to Katrina!
I enjoyed this book. Great characters in pursuit of real love. The heat mixed in with the heart gives it just the right dose of homemade love. Definitely, looking out for more books by Katrina Jackson.
