In an all-too-plausible future where corporate conglomerates have left the world’s governments in shambles, anyone with means has left the polluted Earth for the promise of a better life on a SpaceTech owned colony among the stars.
Maité Martinez is the daughter of an Earther Latina and a powerful Aunare man, an alien race that SpaceTech sees as a threat to their dominion. When tensions turn violent, Maité finds herself trapped on Earth and forced into hiding.
For over ten years, Maité has stayed hidden, but every minute Maité stays on Earth is one closer to getting caught.
She’s lived on the streets. Gone hungry. And found a way to fight through it all. But one night, while waitressing in a greasy diner, a customer gets handsy with her. She reacts without thinking.
Covered in blood, Maité runs, but it’s not long before SpaceTech finds her…
Arrested and forced into dangerous work detail on a volcano planet, Maité waits for SpaceTech to make their move against the Aunare. She knows that if she can’t somehow find a way to stop them, there will be an interstellar war big enough to end all life in the universe.
There’s only one question: Can Maité prevent the total annihilation of humanity without getting herself killed in the process?

This is a keep reading all night late for work kind of book. It is so action packed that when I finished I felt like I’d done a full on ab workout from all the gut clenching I was doing. And by the end, my heart had been lodged in my throat so long it’s a wonder I could speak. This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE SCI FI book. The world building is amazing, the characters are relatable and the action is whoah!
In this bleak world, one spark of hope soon turns into an inferno. And just like a fireball, once this story is ignited, it just doesn’t stop.
A fantastic start to a new sci-fi series with a spectacular heroine in Maité, a halfer that’s been in hiding for most of her life and separated from her father who is a leader of the Aunare alien world. Maité and her human mother have been waiting to be rescued after the humans annihilated the Aunares on Earth after years of peaceful coexistence. She’s everything you want in a heroine. Tough, smart, lethal when needed, and just a young woman with all the feelings that go with her situation. The combination of her human traits and alien abilities is terrific. She has a bunch of hunky heroes behind her from her human best friend, Roan, to the delectable double agent,Declan, and the alluring Aunare, Lorne. Boy, does he have an affect on Maité with only his voice. Also, the fierce ABQ crew trying to counter the dastardly SpaceTech’s evil rule over the inhabitants of Earth. They all work together to get Maité off planet before she’s discovered and executed. Her journey is rough, dangerous and often cringeworthy but she’s strong and knows to hold on until the plan to get her to her father is successful. She is the key to preventing a war between the species and the doom of Earthers. An unfathomable task for a young halfer. I liked the writing even if at times it was a little wordy in places for me but I was so caught up in the superb storytelling that it was minor. The story moved at a good paced with lots of adventure, danger, suspense and intriguing characters. I can’t wait for more of the mysterious Lorne and the hottie Declan and, of course, the truly wonderful Maité/Amihanna. More romance, please. On pins and needles for the next installment in this believable, out-of-this-world, sensational series. Just fabulous! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC. 4.5 stars
This is just the beginning to the Aunare Chronicles series – and it’s a great start!
The world that has been fabricated around this YA sci-fi story is dense and intricate and the characters – main heroine Maite especially – well fleshed out and relatable. As a half-human, her very existence is an issue for others and we are quickly immersed in the politics of this really vividly drawn world.
It is really hard to talk about anything related to this book without either getting off on a tangent or revealing spoilers. It is a well-imagined, very well executed storyline and the world-building is fantastic. The idea that one corporation owns all the colonies in the universe was a bit reminiscent of Battlefield Earth but in the most flattering of ways!
If something YA and sci-fi is up your alley, I can recommend this read very highly!
Suspenseful sci-fi with complex world-building and a tough-as-nails heroine you’ll want to root for!
Another amazing book by AILEEN ERIN. I really loved the world of OFF PLANET and dug the characters. The story follows Maite, a half-human, half-alien girl who is stuck on Earth and living in hiding. When her alien roots are exposed, she is forced to go on the run, which in turn takes the reader on a super exciting, thrilling, suspenseful journey through the cosmos. The characters are wonderful, the dialogue is hilarious and the heroine is AMAZING. I really cared about her and wanted her to succeed and Aileen Erin really stacks the decks against her! This is the first book in an exciting new series and I cannot wait to read more!
Don’t bother with this book.
3 Cranky Stars
Personally I could only give this book a 3 as I got very confused in places. This book is very detailed.
Maite is a halfer, half Aunar and half Earther. She is on the run with her mother trying to get back to their world since SpaceTech had taken over the world and destroyed all Aunars and halfers. Maite was very sought after by SpaceTech as her father is a big shot in their world, but they only had a baby picture to go on so far. Maite’s best friend is an eather Roan, who tries to protect her the best he can. She taught Martial Arts at night and worked part-time in the diner hr mother worked at. One night when gong home she heard her mother talking to someone, she peeked in and saw a man who she suspected to be SpaceTech. This was Declan and he was going to help them get back to their world. There was a very complicated plan to get off Earth in place and they had one day to wait. Until then they had to do their normal routine. Maite went for her shift at the diner, putting a false happy face on. One customer was loathsome this one day, but Maite tried to keep her cool with him. Until she delivered his meal to him and he sexually assaulted her. She saw red and broke his nose plus dislocated his shoulder. Her mother came out the back and td her to run, which she did without causing to much attention o herself. When she eventually stopped she had no clue what to do next. She called Roan, who dropped everything to get to her. They found somewhere to hideout, but SpaceTech caught up with her and arrested her. The book then takes another notch up, with the intrigue, double crossing, and everything else will she ever reach her planet????
The beginning drew me in and at first I was Enchanted. I loved Lorne, Roan, and of course, Maité. The middle got a little tiring though because the same things were happening over and over. Once you get through that part, though, the book gets much better.
Maité was an amazing, strong female main character. She’s a good character to read about during Women’s History Month. She endured a lot just to save the people she loves.
I’m excited to see where her story goes next in “Off Balance.”
Wow! I’m not much into sci-fi, but Aileen Erin proves me wrong every single time! This book is on fire! The world’s building is so intriguingly beautiful and thrilling, the storyline drags you in from the very beginning. Weaving it’s tale of infinite wonder and the characters are so exciting and so full of detail, I felt almost like I was living in the story, working with the characters. It’s an beautifully written story and I look forward to reading the next book!!!!
I am a huge fan of Aileen Erin and her ALpha Girl series so I jumped at signing up for her new release. I don’t normally go for Sci-fi but I really enjoyed this one. Once I started I was hooked. it started off slowly but it built up well and left you on the edge of your seat for this unique and griping journey.
This book is the story of Maite, a woman who is half earthling and half Aunare. She is trying to escape Earth after hiding for so long. She wants to reunite with her father on their home planet. She is helped by some human friends.
I really loved Maite, she was so strong and was fiercely loyal and determined.
The suspense starts off slow and then builds up. You become quickly invested in the characters and the love triangle that seems to be developing between Maite and a human male and Aunare male.
Its hard to write this review without giving the storyline away and ruining the story for you.
Im looking forward to seeing what Aileen brings us next in this series.
er
So this was a great start to a new sci-fi series, one that though starting somewhat slowly when it did actually take off it gathered such momentum steamrollering me along for the entire addictive journey.
So the story is told completely from Maité Martinez Pov.
Half Earther and half Aunare Maité is in hiding with her mother from spacetech on Earth.
After her arrest and sham sentence to a volcano prison planet, she soon starts to learn the meaning of what it is to be tortured on a daily basis.
For a YA series, this certainly doesn’t pull its punches at all and with fantastic world building and a host of fully dimensional secondary characters, this was a really strong start to this new imaginative sci-fi series.
There wasn’t any major romance started in this first instalment but what it does do is set the stage for further progression down the line so I am interested to see where that does go.
a couple of observations from me mainly regarding Maité and her thought process which at times did make me question her actual sanity.
The first being that I don’t know why she keeps referencing feeling so safe around Declan considering his current track record with her, well let’s just say I am more inclined to agree with Lorne on that subject.
Also, there’s a huge difference between pride and privacy and everyone seeing the videos of her time on Abaddon in the grand scheme of things isn’t really that much of a major deal, yeh I get the whys of why she didn’t want them out there but considering the reasons she really just needs to deal with it after everything thing shes endured its not really a bleep on the radar.
Also, there were times I felt Maité pride prevented her from taking in the bigger picture and what needed to be done whatever her own personal feelings on the matter.
Also after all her strength and resilience throughout her ordeal for her then to go and spit her dummy out just seemed a tad out of character to me.
She basically switched to spoiled brat mode which did confound me slightly.
In conclusion, this has sucked me in and I really am invested in what’s to come so I will definitely be watching this space in the future.
This really was an intense and imaginative introduction to a new series.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Off Planet.
