Two years ago, Emily Burnham, had an epiphany about the shallowness of her life. And she made it her mission to become a different person…a better woman. Out from under the controlling thumb of her mother, Emily is tasting the real world for the first time. And she likes it.
Nixon Caldwell has served his time in the Marine Corps, surviving two brutal tours in Afghanistan. He is back home, … back home, surrounded by what he likes best…isolation. It’s certainly the easiest way to avoid confrontation of the consuming guilt that is weighing him down.
When an accident brings Emily and Nix together, he soon learns he is not the master of his own fate. Struggling with his own pain, Nix tries to guard himself against Emily’s charms. He wants her in his bed, but he doesn’t want her in his heart.
Having grabbed life by the horns, Emily wants it all. But is she willing to accept just the small part of himself that Nix is offering? Or can she reach the part of his soul that he has deemed to be Off Limits?
Note From Sawyer Bennett: This book is part of the Off Series but it can be read as a stand alone book. Nothing in the prior or subsequent books will diminish your understanding of this novel. This is a New Adult, Contemporary Romance.

An intriguing, entertaining, and heart felt journey to go on with Nixon and Emily. Emily and Nix are two people fighting to change who they have become, they are both wanting to be better people. They literally bump into one another and their journey to finding a beautiful, albeit a little rocky life with one another begins. I enjoyed this story. I went through a lot of emotions reading this book. My heart was broken but of course in the end Sawyer Bennett pieced my heart back together; leaving me with a smile. I enjoyed every single moment of this story.
*4 Stars*
I really enjoyed this second instalment of this series. Emily and Nix were interesting characters and I enjoyed being along for the ride with them. There was also some growth of some background characters which was good as well.
I look forward to reading more of this series, it’s always nice to come back and try and catch up on a favourite authors back catalogue.
I really enjoyed this story…..It is the second book in a series by a favorite author, the characters are only related to the Hockey story. I really felt for Nixon and loved the romance. The narration was great. I look forward to more in this series.
A entertaining story. Very steamy. Cute ending.
A light read with interesting characters. Good series.
This is a story of Nixon Caldwell a tortured ex-marine who lives with an unseen injury from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He is eaten alive by guilt and has been battling PTSD. A loner, he refuses to let anyone into his life except for his brother and father. Anger is his middle name and he treats people badly to keep them away from him.
And then there is Emily Burnham, trust fund baby and recovering spoiled rotten, opinionated, and judgmental socialite whose mother rules her life (or tries to but is now failing since Em has seen the light) from how she walks, talks, dresses, acts, and even who she associates with all for her father’s political career. Mrs. Burnham has consistently used both Ryan, her brother from book one, and Emily to help further her husband’s career with their eyes on the White House. They are viewed as the ‘perfect family’ and Emily, like her brother, wants her own life and control over her own decisions. Ryan has already defected from his family in favor of love. Is Emily next?
How they met – Emily was leaving Linc’s apartment (Nix’s brother and Ryan’s NHL teammate) after an interview for one of her classes. As she begins to back her car up something goes crunch and she discovers she has badly damaged a man’s motorcycle. He is spitting-fire mad and she goes to work for him to help pay off her debt for the repair of his bike. Her family is very wealthy but she has been cut off from funds since she didn’t choose the career path her mother was determined she take.
Emily and Nix, wow what a couple! I loved them together almost as much as Ryan and Danny. I highly recommend this book and although it is considered a standalone, reading the series in order enhances each book.
This book ends happily. Heist damaged vet who owns a custom motorcycle shop. She is the rich daughter of aCongressman thinking about the presidency. I her family image is everything. She is unhappy with the choice her mother wants for her college major and decides to buck her mom and make her own choices. This results in a freeze of her trust fund. She owes a lot of money to the vet as she backed into his motorcycle and it sustained thousands in damages. He tells her he will let her work it off by organizing his business. He does not want a relationship but is very attracted to her as she is to him.
I say great book to read Sawyer Bennett is a fantastic author after reading this book I read a couple of his other ones enjoy them all
This plot had more twists and quirks that it kept me glued.
Great author, always interesting characters.
Great story about two who connect even though they are complete opposites. Love Sawyer Bennett’s writing, she is not wordy, does great characters and always tells a wonderful story.
Great
i just loved the story
Great story. Sawyer Bennett never disappoints me. She develops the character so well, that you just see it through to the end. A little bit of a tear jerker too.
Brilliant book. Wonderful storyline and brilliant characters.
Loved Nix and Emily and so pleased Nix overcame his problems enough to have his HEA that he didn’t think he needed until he thought he’d lost Emily.
It was a great book and I loved this story. It was emotional, fun, sexy and it was just wonderful. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
One of my favorite Sawyer Bannet’s books.
Nix is quite the character, I fell in love with him right away, “the biggest lesson that Lyla is about to learn from post-war Nix Caldwell is that he has little patience. And when it’s gone he doesn’t hold back.” For some reason I found that extremely sexy. Even when he’s being an a** I find him sexy, “you, don’t.” he says in a low, husky voice. “Bring me cash. Just call me when you have the first two thousand. I expect it within thirty days or else I’ll come looking for you. And trust me…you don’t want that to happen.” Actually I’m kind of thinking I do Nixy boy! He’s so cocky as well I love it, “if you want to see more of my tattoos, you only have to ask. I’ll be glad to strip down and show you everything.” Emily is teaching him things about himself he didn’t know he had in him, and he’s teaching Emily that life doesn’t always have to have rules or expectations, but it’s mainly Emily teaching Nix how to find himself again she’s his anchor, “normally, a girl crying will freak me out and I’ll do anything to get away. But now, I kind of want to take her in my arms and hold her…to reassure her that everything is okay now.” He’s also bringing that protectiveness that she needs in her life. Emily just has a way about her that you can’t help but love, “oh, we’re compatible. Your working parts and mine were in perfect alignment just a few seconds ago.”
