When Thomas Khatt awakens to the magical world following the sudden, violent death of his elderly Archmagus neighbor, he doesn’t get the standard package of awesome power combined with a hero destiny. Nope, he trades his thumbs in for a tail, tawny fur and four feet with a very low co-efficient of friction on linoleum. His destiny as one of three talking mountain lions in the magical world? To … To be sold at auction and bonded to some pimply faced apprentice for life. Thomas would rather eat dirty kitty litter.
Armed only with an impressive set of chompers and buckets of snark, Thomas faces off against a lightning-bolt throwing granny and a sexy union recruiter as he desperately tries to hold the threads of his old life together. To stay off the leash he’ll have to take advantage of the chaos caused by the Archmagus’ death and help the local Inquisition solve his murder. A pyromanic squirrel, religious werewolves, and cat-hating cops all add to the chaos as Thomas attempts to become the first Freelance Familiar.

This was a book that reminded me of Anthony’s Xanth series. It was unique and fanny.
Enjoy looking forward to second one
Fast paced and I found the 2nd half of the book extremely humorous. A good read. Lots of typos in my Kindle edition though.
Hilarious account of a young man turned into a talking cougar. he has to learn about his new life among witches, werewolves, and witch’s familiars the hard way: all on his own, with his only friend, a half witted firebug squirrel. With its sexual references, it isn’t for kids, but it would be a great vaca read.
Loved this! Makes me want to follow the series. The ending is a little abrupt, but the story is complete, you are left wanting to know what comes next. So many funny parts along with the serious. Definitely worth the read.
Fun read! All the characters were fully developed people, I can’t wait to get to know them better!
Well written and kept my interest throughout this imaginative romp through a magical reality that shares our plane of existence.
I opened this book prepared for another mind-numbing trek through a jungle of inane drivel. Instead, I was entertained by a refreshingly fun, and funny, ‘who-done-it’ story that kept me guessing to the end, and surprised me into wanting to read the rest of the series. The characters were well-crafted, from Thomas’ growing confidence in his new body, to Rudy pyrotechnic streak, to O’Meara’s gradual revealing of her softer side. The plot runs quickly, keeping the reader on his toes, leaving just enough unanswered questions to make him come back for the sequel. I’d definitely re-read this book.
A delightful, highly imaginative fantasy reminiscent of L. Sprague de Camp. It’s a good set up for a series, but manages to reach a successful conclusion. Characters are well-developed and behave in a consistent manner. The plotting and pacing are excellent. Even if fantasy is normally not your first choice, this book makes a very entertaining read.
This was a strange, but good read. I’ve never seen a storyline so original and out there. But, it works and it was fun to read. It kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun.
Really enjoyed this book.
Original concept about magic and the effects on ordinary people.
This is going to be a good series.
It is a fair to good book. A little choppy and it seems to start in the middle of a great story but the story line comes together better towards the end. I will be interested to read 2 and 3 since I find his sarcasm and wit funny!
Reminded me of “Wicked” in that there is a message underlying the adventure and mishaps of this human-turned-cougar caught in a wizarding world he never knew existed. Clever twists and turns and a fun read overall.
Very refreshing. Original characters and the hero of a scene are often a surprise.
Definitely a fun read.
It was an interesting take on magic, kinda like The Golden Compass and the Furries from Comicon. Give it a try.
A worthy addition to a library already stocked with Robert Aspirin Myth books. Original and funny
