When Thomas Khatt awakens to the magical world following the sudden, violent death of his elderly Archmagus neighbor, he doesn’t get the standard package of awesome power combined with a hero destiny. Nope, he trades his thumbs in for a tail, tawny fur and four feet with a very low co-efficient of friction on linoleum. His destiny as one of three talking mountain lions in the magical world? To … To be sold at auction and bonded to some pimply faced apprentice for life. Thomas would rather eat dirty kitty litter.
Armed only with an impressive set of chompers and buckets of snark, Thomas faces off against a lightning-bolt throwing granny and a sexy union recruiter as he desperately tries to hold the threads of his old life together. To stay off the leash he’ll have to take advantage of the chaos caused by the Archmagus’ death and help the local Inquisition solve his murder. A pyromanic squirrel, religious werewolves, and cat-hating cops all add to the chaos as Thomas attempts to become the first Freelance Familiar.

Wild and crazy with nonstop action. If you are stuck in reality and tired of it, this should take care of that. And it’s just the beginning…..
An interesting read. Not what I expected, but well written. Good character development.
The characters are very real in a twisted way.
An interesting and different fantasy storyline with some well developed characters and intriguing puzzles. I enjoyed it.
An original and interesting take on magic. I enjoyed it so much that I purchased the rest of the trilogy and read them back to back.
Fun
Funny.
Lazy Sunday book don’t take much thought to enjoy.
An original concept. The protagonist is turned into an animal and we get to follow his adjustment to a new “life style”.
This was a quick read and very enjoyable. Although others claimed it was laugh- out-loud funny, I found it mildly amusing – but still worth the read.
I liked the fact that this was unpredictable and surprisingly enjoyable.
A fun little read a really different plot
I could not put it down!
A new side to magic. very creative characters. Lots of fun!
I enjoyed this book. At first the main character was annoying but he grew on me. One of the things I enjoy are characters that grow and evolve. This one was very stubborn but he did get there. I also found the world building to be interesting. I wouldn’t say there is a cliffhanger ending, but the author leaves a lot to be discovered in the next books.
Just a fun book to read. Great new idea, never read anything quite like it.
Reminded me of Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. The hero finds himself in another form and has to deal with that and the realities of a different type of life. Oh yes, and they both have a love interest ! Lots of teist and turns in the plot to keep the reader interested, and you care for most of the characters.
Probably of most interest to ‘teens’ who enjoy books like the Vampire series Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.
Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Cute story. Wild romp. Clueless, but likeable hero.
Quirky and fun. Fast moving. Original language.
Really liked this one.
