FROM POPULAR ROMANCE AUTHOR KATHERINE MCINTYRE
Book two in The Whitfield Files series
Lawmen were never Ellie Whitfield’s type…until now.
When Ellie Whitfield’s accused of a crime she didn’t commit—though she’s committed many—only one man believes her. And he’s the unlikeliest man as well—Detective Bernard Taylor. He’s a handsome chap, but lawmen were never her type. At least, until now… were never her type. At least, until now…
Bernard Taylor’s hunting down the Butcher of Broad Street, and though Ellie Whitfield’s led the coppers on a merry chase through Islington too many times, the woman’s no cold-blooded murderer. As they work together, he can’t help but be charmed by the vivacious Ellie, and before long, heated glances turn into something more explosive.
However, the closer they get to solving the murder, the deeper the serial killer draws them in—one misstep and they might be his next victims.

I had never read steampunk and didn’t even know if I’d like it until this series. I did know that I like Katherine McIntyre’s storytelling, and as it turns out, I like her take on steampunk as well. This second book in The Whitfield Files is another enemies to lovers romance. Well, kind of. Bernard and Ellie aren’t so much enemies as they are on opposite sides – opposite sides of the law. If you read the first book in the series then you’ll be familiar with Ellie. She’s not the main character in that one, but she does play an important part. This one has Ellie front and center as she and Bernard work to catch the Butcher of Broad Street, The thief and copper may not seem to have much in common, but they do have some terrific chemistry, and in addition to a sexy romance, this pair also takes us on a suspense and danger-filled adventure, This story features a different couple than the first book, but there are elements of an ongoing storyline. That said, the author does give us enough to understand any references to book one – though I’d recommend starting at the beginning because these are some terrific characters.
Ellie and Bernard are characters that stole my heart. Both wounded from the harsh realities of their lives, traveling on opposite sides of the law, but so right together. I could not put it down.

A madman stalks the streets and our heroine is a suspect, but she knows she didn’t do it. Can she convince the detective on the case of her innocence and that they should work together?
This is book two of the series, but it is written as a standalone. New characters, same setting.
This is a solid steampunk story with plenty of action, mystery, and a bit of romance. The setting is very well done with detailed descriptions that paint the scene in vivid colors. In this book we get to explore the setting even more, which is also fun to me. The characters are equally well developed with strong backstories and a bit of history which helps frame the relationship. Put it together with a fast paced adventure and you have a very entertaining weekend read.
Highly recommended.

This was such a grand steampunk adventure and I enjoyed every single page of it. Ellie and Detective Bernard are working together and combing the streets of London searching for a killer. I loved both of these characters, their banter, interactions, and all their steamy chemistry. It’s a charming and fun read and one you definitely need to read, I highly recommend it.
The second book in The Whitfield Files series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Ellie Whitfield is charged with a murder she did not commit and Detective Bernard Taylor is the only one that believes her. There is suspense, drama, danger, murder, twists, turns one very evil villain, and romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“She’d tasted him earlier, but sunlit kisses didn’t compare to those stolen under the moon.”
Searingly stunning steampunk adventure that was both exhilarating and whimsical, I was utterly engaged the entire time! Slow burn that ignited like a torch to light up the night, enigmatic Ellie and her adversary turned scorching hot lover, Detective Bernard, were a perfect match as they raced through the streets of Old World London hunting a monster. Flawless banter, vivid imagery, sinfully sexy moments, and dazzling peeks of magic that left me with a huge smile at the end of this enchanting page-turner!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
