Nora Roberts, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the epic Year One returns with Of Blood and Bone, a new tale of terror and magick in a brand new world. They look like an everyday family living an ordinary life. But beyond the edges of this peaceful farm, unimaginable forces of light and dark have been unleashed. Fallon Swift, approaching her thirteenth birthday, barely knows the world … Swift, approaching her thirteenth birthday, barely knows the world that existed before–the city where her parents lived, now in ruins and reclaimed by nature since the Doom sickened and killed billions. Traveling anywhere is a danger, as vicious gangs of Raiders and fanatics called Purity Warriors search for their next victim. Those like Fallon, in possession of gifts, are hunted–and the time is coming when her true nature, her identity as The One, can no longer be hidden.
In a mysterious shelter in the forest, her training is about to begin under the guidance of Mallick, whose skills have been honed over centuries. She will learn the old ways of healing; study and spar; encounter faeries and elves and shifters; and find powers within herself she never imagined. And when the time is right, she will take up the sword, and fight. For until she grows into the woman she was born to be, the world outside will never be whole again.

Have all of Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb books, This is the second of her new series and I recommend both this and her first Year One
Another fantastical tale by Nora Roberts and her brilliant talent shines on every page. Fallen. The One. Her journey continues as she grows and slowly becomes what she was prophecised to be. It is hard and grueling, training and learning, becoming a warrior of light and a powerful general in her own right. With her alleys at her side battles are waged and loved ones are united, or torn apart, but they will move forward and grow and learn. The darkness is coming and they will need to be strong and brave. They will need to trust in their leader and have faith that in the final showdown, light will beat back the dark. This one is chock full of love and friendship, heartache and sorrow. I shed more than a tear, chocked up a time or two, and almost waged war on their behalf. I wish I could give if more than five stars, as that does not even begin to do it justice.
It is sure to be an epic battle. An adventure not soon to be forgotten. And I cannot believe we have to wait a year!
This is book two in the latest trilogy from Nora Roberts, following Year One. It grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go. I did go back and reread Year One before starting this book, because it has been a while since I read the first book. It was a good idea.
Of Blood and Bone is Book #2 of 3 in the Year One trilogy. I have long awaited this novel and was very happy with the end product. All our favorite characters return and we learn more about the developing characters from Year One. Placed 13 years after the beginning of the plague that ended life as we know it, the babies from Year One are now teenagers and we get to see how they have grown into their powers and either embraced their destinies or turned their backs on the powers they were born with. Now I have to wait another year for the last book in the trilogy!
Enjoyed this book very much. I liked that for an end of the world story, it not have zombies. Nora Roberts writes, for me light entertaining stories. I have read the second in the series and look forward to the conclusion.
Of Blood and Bone was a thrilling page-turner. This second book left you wanting the third book so you could find out how good overcomes evil. Hoping Fallon will find her soul mate and together they will help the people in the new world find peace in the land and hope for tomorrow. Can’t wait until it comes out. In the second book Fallon accepts the responsibility of “the One”. While she is reluctant to accept the new life she soon understands the choices ahead for her and her family. I don’t know how Nora Roberts continues to stretch the boundaries of fiction with her thrilling plots and character development but she always keeps me wanting and waiting for more. Only a master storyteller can do this and she is the best.
This series has a continuous story arc and the books cannot be read as standalones. If you haven’t read the first book, Year One, don’t start here.
The story resumes years after the last book where Lana’s child was identified as being The One and she escaped after the attack on New Hope. That child, Fallon Swift, is approaching her 13th birthday, the age when Mallick, “the visitor,” promised he’d return to the farm and take her away from her family for training. As that date looms closer, Fallon and her family make the most of their time together. Meanwhile, the residents of New Hope have created a viable city and formed close relationships as the country has not emerged from the apocalyptic effects of The Doom. Kate’s twins, Duncan and Antonia are now teenagers who have mastered their gifts for the benefit of the town and beyond and are vital to their continued development.
When I learned that Roberts was creating this series, I worried that she might not be able to pull this off. This story continues the excellence of the first, with minute attention to detail, lore and fantasy while keeping the focus in the realities of the present day. What’s also remarkable is how effectively the human condition is woven into the character development, clear lines between good and evil but also the acknowledgment that our natural human instincts don’t necessarily have us fall definitively in one or the other. It’s a very complicated, dangerous world but hope sits beside despair.
Most of the story is Fallon’s narrative but we do get others’ points of view exactly when I felt I needed them. Julia Whelan delivers such an outstanding performance I had to remind myself that she was the only narrator. She doesn’t resort to attempts at baritone for male voices and yet I recognized the gender every time. My decision to listen to this series was one of my better ones as she just makes a great story even better.
Fallon’s maturation and honing of her gifts, skills and temperament was more interesting than I’d imagined. I loved Mallick and how their relationship developed and shaped. I don’t want to divulge much more about the story but rest assured there’s plenty of excitement, intrigue, tension and even romance as she connects with New Hope. There’s one particular scene that can only be described as spectacular with a huge twist. I was left in a good but uneasy place and am excited about the final chapter to come in this fascinating tale.

I am a huge Nora Roberts Fan and when I read Year One I just really couldn’t love it, even though I wanted to. I hesitated to get this because of that but I’m so glad I did. She’s back on form with this book, the character development is excel. Well worth the read.
I loved the second book as much as the first and can’t wait for the final book!
This is book 2 of Nora Roberts dystopian series. After the death of the majority of society by a virus, Roberts continues the survival saga of the survivors from Book 1 (Year of One). She moves into her genre of light (good) versus dark (bad). The major character, Fallon, is young and conflicted. This becomes a coming of age story. This is a delightful story combining modern knowledge with magicks. You want to believe in her stories, so they are quite enjoyable.
Action packed, fast moving, and can’t wait for the conclusion of the trilogy
This is the second book in Nora Roberts’ new trilogy, Chronicles of the One. The first book was more action-packed. This second book, you can tell, is setting you up or the third and final book of the series. Still a very good read. Love the characters as only Nora can write them! Can’t wait to see how this turns out!
I enjoy this series very much, of course that is to be expected considering who wrote it!
This is the second in a series. The first book was The One. A third and final book comes out later this year.
I would say this is kind of science fiction since it’s about what would happen if the world just kind of imploded and there is no longer electricity connected to cities, cities no longer have people on them because a virus has killed a lot of the population. Not a weird book but interesting. Try it I think you will like it.
The second book of the Chronicles of the One series is about Fallon Swift growing into her role as The One. She goes for her two-year training by Mallick the Sorceror, meets other magical creatures, and fulfills the quests needed to give her the powers she’ll need in the coming war. Meanwhile, the people of New Hope are working as a community, and their people and the friends Lana and Fallon left behind are finding mates and having children.
This is such a good fantasy series with some dystopia mixed in, less than in the first book. I learned about a new creature (an alicorn) which I love. I especially found it interesting how they dealt with nuclear missiles. Ms. Roberts provides a fascinating narrative mixing magick and the modern world with intriguing characters and a page-turning narrative. The ending came as a surprise, and now I must wait for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this series.
I was very caught up in the continuing story of The One. It was great to see how Fallon developed as a warrior and her dedication to the cause. I liked how we see all the characters working together for their common goal. Will be anxiously waiting for the conclusion.
I love all of Nora Roberts’ books! This series is different from anything else she has written and she did an awesome job! It is almost scary because it is based on an apocolyptic moment that could happen in todays world. What would it be like? This book brings that possible reality to life along with a little fantasy to just give it that twist! Great book. Can’t wait until the next one comes out.
Loved this book. If it has been a while since you’ve read Year One (first in the trilogy) I highly recommend reading it again before starting Of Blood and Bone. There are so many characters to follow, and I had forgotten many small (but important) details. This is different from many of her other trilogies, and while I loved those, I am enjoying the change.
Nora roberts is great reading as always I’m looking forward to the next book
This series is one of the best Nora Roberts has written!
