National Park Service biologist Ruth Campbell discovers a body on the beach near Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Her life shifts out of her comfort zone, but not nearly as much as when the newest park policeman, attractive Gage Hampton, arrives to take her statement. She’s determined to stay as far from him as possible. Scarred by her past, Ruth attempts to avoid young men, but she realizes that … avoiding Gage Hampton will be harder than she thought. Another body washes up with the surf, and Gage is intent on discovering who the killer is. When Ruth’s uncle, Owen Lawrence, arrives searching for a long-lost treasure, both Gage and Ruth find themselves pulled into the search, and things become sinister as the killer grows desperate. Can they find the treasure before the killer does? Or will he silence them and sail away with the treasure too?

Ocean of Fear is an appropriate name for Carol Nemeth’s new romantic suspense. Much of the intriguing story is set on the high seas in ocean-going vessels. Other scenes are set at the Cape Hatteras lighthouse where I had to privilege of visiting once.
Ruth Campbell is a national park service biologist over seeing such duties as the hatching of baby turtles on the beach. She conducts tours and answers questions for tourists. But when she finds a dead body washed up on the beach, her routine changes from anything but routine. The demure, shy young woman’s life begins to change, and she faces a life and death challenge she never dreamed would happen.
Gage Hampton, a park policeman, notices the beautiful Ruth but realizes he doesn’t share her faith which is of upmost importance to her. When he must work side by side with Ruth, he finds strong protective feelings for her.
As danger threatens, Ruth calls on God’s strength. Gage becomes more intrigued by the God she serves compelling him to consider his relationship with God.
After another body washes up on shore and an evil force threatens them, Gage and Ruth are forced to work together to discover who’s behind the murders.
If you enjoy romantic suspense with a strong element of action and secrecy, you’ll love this book.
Loved Gage and Ruth’s story!! Ruth is afraid to trust any man after what happened to her in college. Gage thinks he can control his life better than anyone. When he meets Ruth, he wonders if he’s right, especially since she won’t consider him as even a friend. Ruth wonders why she’s drawn to Gage, and tries to fight it. When Gage asks Ruth to go out as a friend, Ruth agrees on the condition Gage go to church with her. When Ruth figures out that does trust Gage, and Gage has turned his life over to God, what will happen when their lives are in danger??
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
This book has it all, intrigue, romance, beautiful scenery, and most of all faith. This is the third book in the series that I have read, and they just keep getting better. This book takes place in Cape Hatteras National Seashore and involves the rangers there. As with all of her books, the author is so good at character development and attention to detail. You feel like you are right there with the characters. I highly recommend this book, and the whole series. You won’t go wrong.
I enjoyed this book, especially the characters and the scenery and what could be learned about coastal wildlife. Nice mystery, mob influence. I liked the ending.
