Sometimes the ones who save us are the ones we need to fear the most.In a world where dark faeries have stepped in to save the planet from humanity’s mistakes, seventeen-year-old December Thorne is nothing but a shadow. Shunned by her peers, bullied at school, and paid a little too much attention by her sleazy foster father, she lives in constant fear and perpetual solitude.Until the day … solitude.
Until the day everything changes.
Offered a scholarship to the prestigious Oberon Academy, December finds herself living in a whole new world. Boundless food, clean clothes, a safe place to sleep, and the potential for true friendship make her new life seem almost too good to be true—but the school has a secret.
The truth is, Oberon Academy isn’t just a prep school for society’s elite. It’s a training ground for a secret race of magical beings no one knows exists. And they’re preparing for war.
Filled with fear and denial, December has a choice to make. She can either return to her pathetic life with her dangerous foster parents, try to survive on her own, or make Oberon Academy her home and discover the truth about who, and what she really is.
And that truth could save the world.

I am in love with this book. I pretty much had it read in less than a day. The story just flows so smoothly and December is such an intriguing and relatable character, I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely love Shaela too, and I’m pretty sure Easton is the perfect book boyfriend. This book had everything all wrapped up in twists. I loved it and I can’t wait for the next book to come out because I need more.
A must read for all the academy lovers out there!
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
This is my first book by Wendi Wilson, but most definitely will not be the last.
At first I wasn’t too sure about this book and if I liked it. But before I realised it I was halfway through it and totally engrossed, to the point of not eating and forgetting my cups of coffee until they went cold
This book is really well written and really intriguing, the story of December, the main character, is definitely full of twists and turns, and lots of emotions to keep you going for week’s.
It also makes you think about the future and maybe what’s to come, maybe not the magic, although I’d love that
This book is a PNR with teenage angst and what teenagers go through when they are at school, friendships, boyfriends etc whether it’s mainstream or magical I enjoyed reading it and I’m 43 years old, so I’d say that it’s aimed at any age group not just teenagers.
I can’t wait for the next instalment and just hope that I don’t have to wait too long for it.
I liked this book, the struggles December went through and learning who she is. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
This book was FABULOUS!!! Such an original and engaging story!! I love Faeries and different takes on them, and this was definitely a unique one!! I loved the MC, December Thorne, and found I was feeling her emotions along with her. Easton is so swoon-worthy and I love how he is with December. Such an AWESOME story and I need to dive right into book two!!
I listened to the audible and the narrator was excellent!! She brought a great story to life!!!
I highly recommend this AWESOME YA Fantasy Romance!!!
The Orphan is book one in Wendi L. Wilson’s Oberon Academy series.
As a baby December Thorn was abandoned and put through the foster system. When an incident at school gets the attention of Oberon Academy a private and prestigious school. December is offered a full Scholarship to attend.
After never feeling like she fits in her old life or school, December starts to make friendships and enjoying life while at Oberon Academy. When tragic strikes, December needs to start believing in herself or something worse can happen.
Although I didn’t fall hopelessly in love with the story or characters, I did quite enjoy it. A bit slow at the beginning with a lot of world building, it did pick up around the 70% mark. The concept of Fae coming to Earth to “help” rebuild the destruction the humans have done to the planet was a refreshing aspect. I did love Shaela and Easton’s characters they really help December understand and come to turns with her new life at Oberon Academy.
A great new academy series with a strong heroine who has a lot of heart! Totally unique world and a great start to a new series!
Wow! I really enjoyed the Oberon Academy. I really like the connection to a real-world scenario and fantasy. Very well written and plenty of excitement with a little budding romance. Lots of emotions and fun surprises! I definitely recommend reading.
OMG, I am so in love with this series… The idea of the Zephirs being our “Saviors”, the academy itself and December herself with her newfound powers… Cant wait to read much much more on this story. Keep the great books coming
This is a Fantastic read. December is an Orphan with a sleezy foster father and Not so nice Foster Mom. So she gets offered a scholarship to an academy that she accepts. There she discovers something about the place that she didn’t know. She learns that shes actually in training for a war. This is fantastically written. The Author has really brought the Characters and the scenery out. From reading this book. I feel this has the makings of a Movie. I highly recommend.

To say I enjoyed this book is an understatement! I was so captivated by Wedi’s story that the pages just flew by.
I really do ask all who may see this to get this book. Your heart will break at the cruelty December experiences with her “foster parents”
and the bullying she has to endure in her high school before everything changes for her.
You will love the characters in the story as well. Some will become you friends as they are to me and others you would like to wish you could throttle them! That is the magic in Wendi’s writing-they aren’t just characters in a book-they seem and feel like real people!
I give this book two thumbs up and 10 stars out of a possible 5-it’s that good. Join me in this adventure and see what a great story this is. You will find yourself another author who you will love like I do and will be waiting anxiously for the story to continue in Book 2 The Zephyr.
Wow, I’m completely blown away and dying for the next book! Wilson has a unique way of infusing emotions and possibility into her words, creating an immersive reading experience and leaving you questioning the plausibility of her stories. This one delivers with themes of perseverance, inner strength, friendship, and love despite the circumstances the characters face. I loved how relatable December was and completely fell head over heels for Easton. Shaela rocks it too! This is a must-read that will leave remnants with you long after you’ve read the last page.
