This story introduces the Clapman family. Chris, who is the youngest, is aware that his father intends to give the store to his brother Joe because he is older and his father’s favorite. Chris decides that there is nothing here for him and he winds up breaking up with his girlfriend and then decides to just get on a bus and see where he lands.
Chris winds up on the West coast and gets a job as a store clerk which also provides him with a room as well. Chris doesn’t think about his old life until many years later. This is because the phone, of his missing girlfriend that he planned on marrying, had recent calls to his old home town. His girlfriends parents wanted to have Chris look into it and see whether their daughter was still alive since she went missing the evening that Chris was going to propose.
Meanwhile, back in Chris’s hometown, there were several unexplained murders that occurred and the bodies were presented without a face so identification wasn’t possible. Once Chris got back to town, he discovered that his mother had died and that his father was in jail. His old girlfriend Ellen was still around and running the diner.
To discover what information that law enforcement had on the murders and how Chris managed in his new home town, then you must read this story. There is information that will give leads on the murders and along with the remaining books in the series, which also provide leads, you will ultimately discover who the killer was.

So on to, book two I go!
This was a pretty good book that had me confused. It revolves around Chris who leaves his girlfriend, Ellen, and everyone else in the small town of McCall Junction. Chis eventually goes across the country and lives in a small town by the ocean. He likes the community and an owner of several stores leaves it all to Chris when he dies. Meanwhile, McCall Junction suddenly has dead bodies and mannequins showing up in the forest but Sheriff Madden doesn’t have a clue as to why. She does know that all 12 are all connected! Chris suddenly decides to go back to McCall Junction after his girlfriend has gone missing. It’s never mentioned why Chris left his hometown but it mentions something about his brother. So as you are reading and trying to put the pieces together, the book just ends! I was so surprised because now I have no idea what is going on with Chris, the murders and how it’s connected. Good thing this book is in a series because it certainly leaves you wondering what the heck is going on.
