After the Romans left Britain, the Picts and Scots began going through openings in Hadrian’s Wall and then raiding and spreading terror among the Britons. After this has gone on for a number of years, the king of Britons, called Vortigern, asked for help from the Engels who were living in Anglen which is in northern Germany and locted half way along the Jutland penisular. What Vortigern did not … not know was that the Engels, Kimbern and Saxons had amalgamated to form a powerful confederacy which was always under the commend of the nobles of the various tribes, but always under the banner of the Saxons. In A.D. 449, the first of the the germanic forces arrived in Britain and these very war-like andhighly skilled warriors were immediately put into action against the Picts and Scots who were still terrorising the Britons. Wherever the Germanic newcomers went, they were well received by the local Britons who were already Christians. The Germanic proctectors, on the other hand were pagans who worshipped woden and Thor. This in due course set the scene for religious intolerance and misunderstandings. That was to last until St. Augustine who converted the Germanic protecors to Christanity The Story goes on to the Danish Viking invasions and how these were finally beaten by King Alfred the Great and his son called Edward the Elder.
