Second chances at love don’t come around that often. When Rebecca is saved by her high school sweetheart, is it their turn to find love? This is not your typical second chance story. Rebecca is an independent woman and has goals. She left to get her culinary education, and Johnny was not happy. Now years later, the two collide again when Rebecca returns to her hometown to help her family out after the death of her father. Life happens, times change and these two have definitely matured. Cash, the name he goes by now has had his share of heartache and isn’t sure he can open his heart again. Rebecca is consumed with helping her mother financially. Will these two find that first loves last forever? This is a great story! Both characters have issues to work through, and that is what makes this sweet love story so true to life. It holds a great sense of community and the story is beautiful. I especially love Cash’s son who seems to hold the wisdom! Give this one a listen!
Vicki Pierce is a wonderful narrator. Her voice is well suited for this story and I love that she is able to flow between not only male and female voices but an array of ages too. She gives a wonderful performance, one you too will enjoy.

I couldn’t let my irritation go
I had read another story by this author and that was amazing! So I started this book with high hopes. The other story wasn’t the same genre, it was not a romance, but a portal fantasy. And I’m sad to say that my personal opinion is that the author should definitely write more fantasy, but not necessarily more romance… I didn’t warm up to the style. It didn’t have the right tone. I could not fully get into it; there was one thing I COULD NOT GET OVER. And that was how Rebecca did not recognize Cash. They had last seen each other at 18, which was now over 10 years ago, but that’s not that long when you learn how important they had been to each other. They had spent THEIR WHOLE YOUTH TOGETHER AND HAD A RELATIONSHIP. The broke each other’s hearts and NOW SHE DOESN’T EVEN RECOGNIZE HIM? No. I just could NOT believe that. Even though he changed his name from Johnny Cash Williams to Cash Williams, that still screamed ‘recognize me’. And yes, he now had a beard where he didn’t before but still. And she had apparently asked around for who was the best contractor and in such a small town NOBODY HAD TOLD HER IT WAS HER EX? NO! That’s NOT how small towns work. I found myself unable to let it go. It was too unrealistic. And even when he says who he is, it still takes her a while. COME ON! NO WAY! You see how I kept coming back to this. Maybe I’m making too big a deal out of it, but it was how I felt.
I must say, the story WAS well written. But both Cash and Rebecca were not characters I could connect with. I like becoming bookfriends with the characters and especially Rebecca just irritated me. I want that ‘friendship’. Cash was better than Rebecca, but he was so serious! The story wasn’t interesting enough to lure me in. It was okay in the end, but not special enough to stand out.
Good book, standalone with a HEA!!!
This was a charming read. I have some pros and cons though with this book.
Pros: 1.) I loved the main characters Johnny Cash Williams and Rebecca Martin. 2.) The secondary characters were wonderful as well. 3.) I appreciated having a dual POV. I especially appreciated seeing Cash’s side the most. 4.) The plot was full of conflict and heart-wrenching angst. I really felt for these two characters. 5.) There were some really great interaction between the characters.
Cons:
1.) This book really needed to be edited. There were misspelled words galore! I would have to re-read some section to figure out the correct word for the appropriate meaning. 2.) Also there is the mystery of who left the letter to Rebecca after their teenage break-out. Rebecca thought Johnny (Cash) broke up with her and he felt she broke up with him. That aspect of the plot was never resolved. 3.) Also Cash was VERY DENSE and never figured out why Rebecca was hurt that Cash was a father of a twelve year when they broke up twelve years ago. There just seemed like there was many inconsistencies to the story. 4.) While you could see the relationship and spark between Rebecca and Cash; Cash really seemed to dwell on the dead fiancee, Abigail.
I did enjoy this story though. I really did feel for these two characters and all the pain and suffering that they went through. I would recommend this book though if you enjoy a clean read.
Loved It
This was a great story about second chances. Rebecca & Johnny grew up together and when she decided to go to Fort Worth to learn to be a chef he stated that he couldn’t do long distance. Now she is back to open a restaurant with her sister. And Johnny be goes by Cash is her repair guy. Can the sparks be rekindled.
