Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon–and simultaneously his novel–be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?more
Colleen Hoover needs to drop the mike right now. This book kept me up in the wee hours. It gave me all the feels and the weird thing was, didn’t have to be explicit with the love scenes to invoke ALL the tingles. I am so in awe that I am about to throw in my pen. Great premise which somehow manages to surprising every scene of the way. Brava!!!!

This one came out at me in the dark. The twists I never predicted. Honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve read it. I just remember certain scenes. And you will too.
Youll not going to forget this date anytime soon.November 9
A single moment can alter your life in unexpected ways. For Fallon – a fire altered the course of her life. With the scars still present on her body, Fallon can no longer work as an actor. If the injury and consequences weren’t heartbreaking enough, Fallon lives under the scrutiny of a father who was also an actor. As he pushes his lack of attention upon Fallon’s shoulders, the constant disregard leaves the former star degraded and hurt. What Fallon never expected was to find a hero to rescue her from it all.
After hearing the way Fallon’s father treated her, Ben decides to offer an escape from the scrutiny. Once Ben learns that this was Fallon’s last day before moving to New York, he decides to make it a memory worth savoring. The duo spend the day together and make a decision that will alter their lives in an unexpected way. The plan is to meet every year on November 9th, an idea that would have a lasting effect for some time to come.
While studying to become a writer, Ben decides to pen the story of his and Fallon’s relationship into a book. Five years was the timeline the duo gave themselves to meet. What they couldn’t have predicted was the way that first anniversary meeting would alter how they felt about one another. Determined to have a life outside of a commitment to one another, the couple decides not to act on the feelings that are burning with the intensity of a fire. How will their relationship change as the years come and go? Only time will tell just how meaningful November 9 will be.
November 9 is definitely one of the more unique concepts for a romance novel. Colleen Hoover captivates readers with a plot that is full of angst, romance, and possibilities. What I loved most about Fallon and Ben was just how deep each character looked into the other’s soul. From Ben’s writing to Fallon’s scars, the imperfections didn’t stand in the way of the other character’s ability to see beneath the exterior. Dreams often times go unanswered, but Fallon and Ben were determined to let their guide the path toward every single November 9.
This novel is certainly full of beauty and originality, qualities that I always look forward to from Colleen Hoover. Another amazing book to add to your Hoover collection!!
Holy keeping-you-on-the-edge-of-your-set crap! I was so involved with Colleen Hoover’s November 9 that I could not put it down, literally to the point where I made my husband drive me so I could read in the car. I was I was engrossed all the way to the very end! I immediately fell in love with Fallen’s sass and Ben’s charm.
With trying not to give anything away, these two characters meet on November 9th and then continue to only meet up every November 9th. So, as a reader we only get to see what goes on Fallen and Ben one day a year throughout most of the book. And a lot can happen in a year! It was so nerve-wracking and exciting every time we jumped to the next year. I was nervous that one of them could have found someone else and excited that this just might be the year they start a real relationship.
Absolutely hands down one of the best books I’ve read in a while! I didn’t think Colleen could top Ugly Love, but she just blew it out of the water with November 9. And that says something, because I LOVED Ugly Love!
Very creative and super entertaining!!!
I hadn’t seen that twist coming. I knew there was going to be one because it’s a Colleen Hoover book, I was preparing for that, but I certainly wasn’t ready to have my mind blown.
This is the second book of Colleen Hoover’s that I’ve read, and I have lost myself in both November 9 and It Ends With Us.
I’m at a loss for words.
I still am.
Even now.
Still nothing.
Maybe I’ll try again in a few hours…
Yada.
Zero.
Zilch.
The next morning?
Sure.
I’ve processed the twist by now and got over the initial shock. Let’s try this again:
In the beginning, I was so intrigued by this random guy who just walked up to Fallon’s booth, slid in next to her, wrapped his arm around her shoulders and called her babe. In front of her dad. Sorry, not dad. Father.
Our female protagonist is Fallon O’Neil, a young girl whose life was ruined when she experienced a tragic fire, barely surviving. Of course, she didn’t escape without scars, both emotional and physical.
The male protagonist is named Benton (Ben) James Kessler, an aspiring author who intentionally started the fire that burned down the O’Neil home, thus destroying Fallon’s life.
The two meet at a diner, which is one of the main settings in the story, while she’s eating a meal with her father. Ahem, trying to eat a meal with her father.
Eventually, her father leaves, and Fallon and Ben end up spending the day together. They feel a connection, are sad when she leaves for her flight to New York, but look forward to the fact that they’re going to see each other in exactly one year, same time, same place.
Time-skip to next November ninth; they meet after no contact for 365 days, and only for a day do they see each other. They’re confused about their feelings for one another, yada, yada. They have some fallouts throughout the days they meet each year on November ninth, and they only solve them the next time they meet; a year later.
They fall in love, and towards the end, Fallon, and all us poor readers, find out that Ben was behind the fire, and we see his side of the story through his unfinished novel.
On the seventh November 9, they make up when Fallon herself reads the manuscript that was for so long hidden from her, and the book ends when they make out with the promise of a proposal the next November ninth.
…
“And if there is any part of you capable of forgiving me, you know where I’ll be. Tonight, next year, the next, for eternity.”
That broke me. It was just so filled with raw sadness and pain and love that I burst into tears. And not for the first, second, or tenth time since I started reading this book.
I loved this book so much, yet I shocked myself when I finished it in one sitting. It was beyond beautiful, the words skillfully spun to create this…freaking amazing book that everyone needs to read.
Something I am so, so, grateful for this book for is what I got out of it. It wasn’t only the entertainment, or the adventure, or the joy of reading it that I loved, it was what it taught me: No matter what anyone in the world says, the scars on the outside don’t matter. It’s how beautiful one is on the inside that’s important. That phrase, never judge a book by its cover? It’s so freaking true! Reading November 9 was such an eye-opener for me, such a wake-up call that I’m honestly a bit ashamed it took reading a book for me to come to this truth. For all you people out there who have read this book, I hope it benefited you as much as it entertained you, and to those people who are going to read this book, I hope it benefits you as much as it entertains you. Happy reading!
My second listen by Colleen Hoover. Ben & Fallon’s emotional connection shook me to the core. have no idea how Colleen does it. It’s a very unique writing style and I was left craving more of the characters & their connection. I highly recommend reading/listening to this book
Seems like every time something tragic in my life happens, I end up reading a Colleen Hoover book right after. It’s not done purposely, I just know it’ll grasp all of my attention and completely consume my mind and thoughts. It helps! This book also left me with a massive hangover. I’m always left in a state of shock after reading these wonderfully crafted stories. If that’s not enough to get you started on this author or this book, then I don’t know what will. This woman is my unicorn and I will read anything she writes. No matter the genre.
Once again I was blown away by this authors words. In the early part of this story it felt a lot like self pity and deprecation and I felt ugh! no! I can’t continue if its going to be the woe is me but then it turned around revealing a massive plot twist then my heart broke into a million pieces and I grabbed the tissues.
I love how this author suddenly just hits you out of left field with a solid ball of emotion. The interconnected way these two characters lives have crossed over year after year is true romance. Very much a slow burn.
What I further love about this authors stories is the uniqueness, you never know where its going to go but you know at some point you are going to be awash with emotions. Love books with all the feels!
Best 5hr of my life
Absolutely loved this book. This book had me in tears, shock, and in love. It shows that even in tragedy their is beauty that can be found. The plot twist I must say is fantastic. Another 5 star read By Colleen Hoover loving this author more and more.
I was warned before I started reading this book, that it’s an emotional rollercoaster and it will wreck me.
And it definitely was an emotional, dramatic and heartbreaking read.
The topic is so unique and fascinating, that I couldn’t stop reading till 2 a.m.
I wanted to know what the heck will happen next.
I had different scenarios in my head, but I was absolutely not prepared for the last 20% of this unpredictable book.
Fallon and Ben first met when they were both 18 years old.
They are together few intense and life changing hours and that’s it….till next year.
They make a pact that they will meet on the same day every year. Till their 23rd birthday.
What will happen afterwards should the fate decide
This book is crazy exciting and emotional. Their story is the
plot for their own romance book, that Ben the Writer is writing as the time goes.
I can’t give you more without spoilers, but I recommend this book to all romance lovers.
This book is so damn ridiculous breathtakingly beautiful, you’ll laugh, cry and swoon the whole time
Oh my gosh the angst. This book is full of ups and downs and put my emotions through the wringer in the best way. Colleen Hoover really knows how to pull on the heartstrings.
It was ok. I didn’t love this one. I for some reason couldn’t connect with the characters and the fact that they meet on one day a year made it hard for me to believe the love they felt for one another. I will say the ending was the best part of this book. I appreciate this love story of its never the right time. Each time Fallon and Ben meet there is always something in their life that gets in the way of them being together. So while I didn’t love it and wasn’t all that invested in this story, it wasn’t horrible, and the ending made up for all the parts I didn’t quite care for.
I completely admit, I do not read Contemporary Romance. I generally read Horror, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, etc. The darker the better is my ‘chocolate and coffee’ preferred genre. I chose to read this as it was Book Club pick. At 24%, I wasn’t sure I even wanted to continue. So, I thought, alright, I’ll start another book and come back to this one. Well that didn’t happen, I found myself reading more, until I finished. And Holy Plot Twist! I was in tears by the end! (Emotional, sappy, puddle of mush! That’s me!)
This book was beautiful. Wow! What a ride. I loved it!
This author never disappoints. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Oh my heart… This story had me reading until I couldn’t read anymore. It is heartbreaking and wonderful all in one. Colleen pulls you in with her writing and amazing story telling.
My heart broke for Ben when we finally get to see his past and all he has dealt with.
This is a story that will stick with you long after the last page and despite the HEA my heart is still sad for the life Ben & Fallon where dealt.
Great concept with awesome, realistic characters. Fantastic read!
