This book is like watching Criminal Minds but with more information. You don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy this one, though those are good books too. Lucy has such a sharp mind and that shows in her work of catching the bad guys. In this book she is working with an investigator who doesn’t like the FBI because they screwed up a case many years ago. The case has random guys dying and not knowing what links they all together. We follow Lucy and Jerry as they hunt down this killer. During all this Sean and Jesse have problems of their own.

I love Allison Brennan’s books, especially the Lucy Kincaid series. These are always well written, page turners that you just can’t put down!
This is a very satisfying story with likeable characters, all of whom have their own issues, blind spots and agendas. What I thought would be a typical local cop-not-liking-the-FBI trope turned out to be much more nuanced and believable.
All of Allison Brennan i’ve Read have been good boos ! Nothing to Hide is really good ! Read it in 2 days !
Nothing to Hide by Allison Brennan
Lucy Kincaid #15
As I began to read this book I thought I had read about Lucy Kincaid before and then something I read in this book reminded me I had read of her capture and horrible experience at the hands of a sadistic man and more. I loved that book, though it was not easy to read, and realized that as this is book 15 and the last one I read in the series was book two…I have missed a LOT of Lucy’s life stories and cases. Andy you know what? I didn’t need to read the books in the middle for this book to make perfect sense. I now need to find out where I can pick up the books I have missed and make sure to read them!
This book starts with Lucy at a murder sight checking the body where it lies. She has been asked to assist the local detective, Jerry Walker, in determining who the serial murderer of three (so far) men might be. There is a lot of detecting, interviewing, brain storming, discussion and police procedure that takes place with discussion of evidence, recreation of the murders and a bit of friction between Jerry and Lucy when she wants to call in the FBI for a profile of the murderer. In addition to finding the murderer there is a second thread to this book that has to do with some orphan boys that Jesse, Lucy’s stepson, has befriended. There seems to be a back story about the boys and about Jesse that I would love to read. Anyway, I usually read the end of books first but managed not to this time and have to say it took me a LONG time to figure out who the baddie was. Even when I was beginning to tweak to who it might be I wasn’t sure if it was this one or that one and guessed wrong at first. So…good job Ms Brennan!
Did I like this book? Definitely
Will I read more in this series? As soon as I can!
Thank you to NetGalley and SMP-Minotaur for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Lucy Kincaid never disappoints and neither does Allison Brennan with a wonderful new addition to the FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid series. Lucy and Sheriff Deputy Investigator Jerry Walker are investigating two bodies that have been killed in the same unusual manner. Then a third body is killed the same way. The men all led normal lives, married, children with no obvious motive for their murders. Jerry is not happy that Lucy has been assigned to work with him, not because she is female, but because she is FBI. As they continue to question the families of the victims, there is no obvious connection between the men. Do they have a stone-cold psychopath killing just for the pleasure of getting away with murder? At the same time Sean, Lucy’s husband, is still dealing with his son, Jesse, and the trauma that he suffered when his mother was killed. While Lucy is able to use Sean’s assistance and perspective on the cases, the sheriff’s department and FBI work overtime processing what few clues they have. Ms. Brennan is a master at suspense and weaves a complicated and thoroughly entertaining mystery. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. He has been burned by the FBI before and wants her help.Sean is trying to deal with guilt he feels from not keeping his ex safe.Jesse is trying to help a friend from making a huge mistake. Just when you think you know who the killer is your thrown a curve ball and your totally wrong. Wickedly Twisted!!! Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for providing me a copy of NOTHING TO HIDE by Allison Brennan in exchange for my honest review.
For those readers who have read any part of the Lucy Kincaid series, you will really enjoy this one. For those who haven’t, don’t let the number of books in this series deter you. This works easily as a stand alone. It will probably whet your appetite to go back to the beginning … it’s well worth it.
FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid is working with the local police in San Antonio on a case that completely has her baffled. Three bodies have been found … no DNA .. no clues … no evidence …. nothing … nada.
The only commonality among these men, other than the way they were killed, is that they are all married, seemingly happy. They all have responsible jobs, nothing in their backgrounds indicate anything criminal. They don’t share churches, grocery stores, laundries, etc.
What begins as a seemingly straightforward investigation turns into something far darker and more sinister than Lucy could have ever imagined.
On the personal side, her stepson finds himself in harm’s way when he tries to help a friend. The friend’s brother is head of a drug gang, just out of prison, and wants his younger brother to join him. But there’s also the initiation to get through ………..
The story premise is a really good one. I got totally involved in the investigation, watching how Lucy takes every opportunity to question not only potential suspects, but her own instincts, as well. I like how the characters interacted …. Lucy and the local police who has no use for the FBI…. and then there’s Lucy’s relative new family …. a husband and a teenage stepson. All are finely drawn and credible.
Prepare for lots of action in this page-turning crime fiction / police procedural. Extremely well-written, this will keep you riveted from the very first page.

I received this ARC of Nothing to Hide by Allison Brennan from NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review. I have read quite a few of the Lucy Kincaid series but not all, this one can be read as a stand alone book, although I do feel it would be better to have read the earlier books to have a better understanding of Lucy’s past. As ususal Brennan’s books are well written, have good characters and she carries the storyline through to completion. In this book Lucy is in search of a serial killer, working with a police officer who from past experience doesn’t have any use for the FBI. Eventually they do forge a halfway decent working relationship. This book will keep you guessing and the pacing of the storyline was well enough that I didn’t lose interest. I would certainly recommend this book to any that enjoy Brennan’s book, or enjoy reading books dealing with the FBI and how they work to figure out the culprit of crimes.
This is book fifteen in the Lucy Kincaid series and can be read as a stand-alone. The beginning of the book was easy to capture attention and moved at nice, quick pace. However, somewhere in those first few chapters the pace began to slow and the reader becomes inundated with the minutia of police work. Every conversation is laid out. Every piece of evidence described, in full detail. Everything revisited just as it would be in a real investigation. As a reader, it was hard to stay invested. In addition, the parallel plot never fully tied into the main storyline, leaving the reader to question the motive behind the inclusion. All in all, this was a very long, drawn out narrative whose plot pace decidedly undercut any anticipatory feel. 2 stars.
