Review:
I had read the first few books in this series, and then I stopped (I am not sure why). Well, I can assure you that I will be reading the ones that I have not read, because they are just so good. Nothing Stays Buried is as good as it gets.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. The Monkeewrench gang work very hard but they can relax too, and they are getting ready for the newest member, baby Grace/Leo. Leo and Gino are still hard at work trying to keep the people of Minneapolis safe. They all care about each other and they are a family of choice, which I think maybe the best kind.
The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly through their actions and words. The authors is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The two mysteries were well plotted and they were carried on well throughout the book.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted mystery book. Looking forward to reading the next one.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Penguin Group, Putnam, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
Of the series about Monkey Wrench, this is my favorite! The mom and daughter wrote these books together about police, computer whiz, crime, love, and humor in Minnesota. This is the first one written by just the daughter after her mom died .. it has a lot of the same feelings and solid plotting ..but with so much more heart and empathy.
Magozzi and Gino and the gang are still solving crimes in the summer heat as the Monkey Wrench gang takes off to help find a woman missing for 2 months and presumed dead in Cottonwood County, Mn
Please read the first book to get a feel for people involved…..in this book, Grace and Magozzi are expecting a baby..quite a step as they have grown over time into a couple.
As a serial killer strikes the parks of St. Paul/Mpls leaving his calling card, Grace and her team try and help Walt and Sheriff Emmet find Marla. Soon the cases interconnect with drug cartels and an FBI agent is introduced
Add in the flavor of the cities, farms in open fields and a very intense tornado scene that puts you right into it!
Solid plot, not one detail is overlooked, computer skills, old fashion detective work and the premise of good and evil.
Each person emerges off the pages, foibles and all….with depth and humanity. A sense of Minnesota humor and a hot dish add to the atmosphere. She can make you as afraid of a farm and field as a big city at night. Her writing style is a delight, wicked sense of pathos, humor …..”….and soothe a grieving relative with a genuine empathy he tore out of some squishy soft spot.”
You’ll want to visit the land of lakes, meet Harley, Roadrunner and Annie and feel protected by cops like Gino and McLaren. 5 big stars
It’s been a while since I read any by these writers. I saw that P J has passed away in 2016 and her daughter Traci is continuing the series. This book did not disappoint in any way. The plot was well developed, the characters were as fun as always, and the relationships are getting closer! This one had an added trauma of a tornado in the middle of trying to catch the bad guy. But in the end, all is well and ready for the next adventure of the Monkeewrench group. Can’t wait to see what it brings for Grace and Magozzi.
Have the next two lined up to read. Started “the Guilty Dead” yesterday and already can see it will be a ‘up late at night’ book.
Thanks for another great read.
Great book you just won’t want to put down!
Well developed plot.
