This rom-com was packed with laughs, completely embarrassing moments and laughter. Karina Halle is known for her settings taking on characters of their own. I always feel transported to the places in the book – it’s a wonderful feeling.
Nova Lane is not too lucky with the whole love. Her current boyfriend cheats on her while on vacation. She’s smart, gorgeous and a little closed off.
Kessler Rocha is an ex-NHL Star who knows Nova. He’s a single dad, learning to navigate this new life.
Kessler and Nova have history. It unfolds messily as the past rears it’s head in during their new working arrangements.
I loved these characters. They grew throughout the book and I enjoyed it all. Another great read.
5 Cranky Stars
It’s been awhile since a book made me laugh out loud. Kessler versus the chicken will forever be in my head. Hey I don’t blame him farm birds are the devil. I’m looking at you geese and ducks. Yet it’s more than laughs though It’s about recognizing the flaws in yourself and allowing yourself to open up again.
When Kessler and Nova met the first time it was an explosive affair. Neither one wanting to open up and budge about their true feelings. More like Nova fell in love and Kessler thought love wasn’t for him. He becomes her ultimate heartache. She sets off to live out her days in Hawaii at the corporate office of the hotel chain they worked for. She’s just existing but she thinks her life is great until her new boss arrives. Hello Kessler! Kessler has grown a lot in the 5 years apart. He comes with a new person in tow and Is excited but unsure to see Nova again. They fight they have hot steamy sex and then they find a common ground to exist on. It isn’t an easy road for Nova and Kessler but It becomes so worth it.
I loved this story. It felt different than the Karina Halle books of the past. It’s fun and playful yet it has that heart and overcoming your fears like a Karina book does. I love that they are both able to admit yes we have commitment fears with Nova’s coming from a very real place. Hunter you sweet little boy with the leprechauns you won my heart. Do yourself a favor and read this story. You won’t regret it. Mahalo Karina Halle for writing this gem of a book . Filled with bastard chickens and geckos named Dwayne Johnson.
Nothing Personal by Karina Halle is a full length, standalone, contemporary romance novel and finds the author at her finest.
Meet Nova Lane. She’s a 30 year old woman and she just had the week from hell. And now her past shows up in form of her ex. Her ex who broke her heart. And now he’s back and to top it off, hr’s about to become her boss.
Kessler Rocha is a hero that had me a bit in a twist. He’s a good man, good father and good boss, but he’s in a bad situation. He came to the companx knowing his ex was there and he risked her wrath and her heart to be broken by him – again. He wants a second chance. And I was torn about his character. Yes I wished them to be happy and find a HEA, the sidekick is simply adorable and I loved the twists and turns, the bicker and banter. But I’m asking myself why should the heroine , the strong heroine be a pushover in the end?? Don’t get me wrong, the story is great and the writing is excellent and I loved the story and Nova very much.
I will not spoiler here, only so much, I’ll never ever be thinking about whales without snickering.
I recommend this book and give 5 stars.
Nothing Personal was a very sweet and emotional read from Karina Halle, that tugged at my heartstrings. Karina Halle can write some strong, level-headed heroines, and Nova Lane (LOVE her name) is just that. She’s a strong, independent woman, who takes no shit from anybody. However, that doesn’t mean that strong, independent women can’t get their heart broken. Nova’s been there, done that and she doesn’t need a repeat thankyouverymuch.
But what do you do when life puts old heartaches in your path? In Nova’s case its in the form of a burly, coworker who she had an affair with years ago. Kessler Rocha is the one that got away. Nova loved him, but he never knew the extent of her affections.
Unexpected circumstances have them meeting once again in the worst way possible. Nova wants nothing to do with Kessler, not after the way he broke her heart. She doesn’t have a choice, however.
Nova does what is expected of her. She puts her big-girl panties on and decides to deal with Kessler by ignoring their past and just focusing on their working relationship. However, Kessler is a little shit stirrer. He actually expects everything to be normal so they can go back to being friends. Fucking friends.
For some portions of the book I wanted to reach my hand through the pages and give Kessler ancouple of slaps. Some of the ways he handled things that happened had me wanting to bash my head on the wall. Nova was way too good for him, especially after some of the stuff he pulled. This seems to be the case for most of the female leads nowadays, where I find the female protagonist levels above the males. However Kesslers idiocy was believable. And when he FINALLY understood his mistakes he did try to fix them the best he could. At the end of the day thats all you can hope for.
A truly enjoyable read from Karina Halle. It’s a testament to her writing how she managed to turn a story that has been told a thousand times into something different, getting me to invest in my characters within a short period of time.
4 stars!
The perfect book to pick up if you’re looking for a light, racy, humorous, fun read. Great mix of tension and sweet without angst and drama to weigh the story down. Nothing Personal is a tropical delight!
This was exactly what I needed at the end of this year. This was funny, lighthearted, and had virtually no drama or angst! Set in Hawaii, this made me long for time on the beach with a mai-tai in hand! But as noted, cut yourself off after three :). Story focuses on Nova, who escaped to Hawaii after her brief relationship with her co-worker. He doesn’t know that he completely broke her heart…and now, he’s on the Island as her boss! The initial interactions between the two were hilarious, and Kessler’s son is adorable.
While a light comedy is not normally Karina’s writing style, I wish she would do more of these types of novels as they really bring out her fun snarky side. I found myself laughing, highlighting quotes (mai-tai limits), and just enjoying the story.
I adored this book!
I love a good single parent trope. Add second chance romance and BAM! You’ve got me hooked.
This book has Karina Halle signature all over. A great quick paced read with some funny moments and oh so many swoony ones!
I loved it beginning to end and I liked that it didn’t feel rushed at all.
Rom-coms are Karina Halle’s soft spot and once again,I jumped in eyes closed because I knew she was going to kill it.
Great characters and fresh story. It had everything I was expecting for.
Fun second chance romance, with witty humor and a single dad.
Hot sexy and set in Hawaii what more can one ask for to finish off 2018 with a bang.
Great read
And this book got me out of my book funk!
Thank you Author Karina Halle for this book.
First, yes this cover & title had me intrigued.
So I dove in and was up to 4am reading it because I could not put it down.
Be ready that once you start reading this book, you won’t want to stop till you get to the last page.
I loved everything about it.
It is funny, it has the swoon factor, the fun angsty back and forth of second chance lovers.
And of course the hot factor of these two characters was the cherry on top of the story.
I liked the back story on both characters. I feel it gave us the reader a good sense of why the characters were the way they were presently.
Overall this book kept me entertained & smiling while reading.
Go get this and end your year right!
A Top 2018 Must Read!
5 popped!
“ , , . .”

Nothing Personal is a hilarious, laugh-out-loud second-chance/office romance that hooked me from the first page. Set in exotic Hawaii, the characters are entertaining and their witty banter kept me in stitches throughout. Nova, the go-getter was a strong, independent character who long ago built walls around her when her “level ten heartbreaker” did a number on her. Fast forward to now and that very man re-enters her life in dramatic fashion. Kessler comes barreling in with guns blazing and completely obliterates Nova’s life once more. But he’s not the same man and this new Kessler is hard to resist. he’s romantic, sexy, protective and….a fabulous father! I adored his son Hunter who was just too cute for words. He was instrumental in bringing these two lovebirds back together in a way that only a child can. Together, Nova and Kessler were a dynamic couple.
It wasn’t only the main characters that I loved either…..the secondary characters were just as fun and played important parts in the story. Kate and her crazy mouth, Braduh Ed, Teef and even Mike were completely endearing. Halle created a whole new world that was unique and fun. I really loved everything about this deliciously entertaining story. 5 stars
Karina Halle writes some of the best rom coms I’ve ever read. This book had me hooked from the first chapter and I became fully invested in both of these characters. This is a second-chance office romance set in Hawaii and what is a more perfect setting for a romance than that?
This was one of my favorite rom-coms since Karina’s book, Smut, and I thoroughly laughed and enjoyed myself while reading it. Do yourself a favor and read this book!
Don’t let the blurb fool you this book is a hoot!! Nothing Personal is fun, sweet, and sexy! Nova is a strong woman and she built walls around her heart from her level ten heartbreak. Kessler is such a man, he has good intentions, but he doesn’t always see the big picture. His son is adorable and I love seeing the father/son bond they have. These two definitely hit their fair share of speed bumps and I loved seeing their second chance unfold. I really love Nova and Kessler!!
Nothing Personal is a second chance romantic comedy and it was just so much fun to read.
We meet Nova, who returns to work after a vacation to find her boss has suddenly quit. Not only is she passed up for the promotion, but the company has hired her ex, her “level 10 heartbreak”, instead.
The tension and banter were great. It was so funny! I even found myself laughing out. The story had depth and some drama but was able to keep an overall lighthearted tone. It was the perfect balance of humor and heart.
The setting also added a great vibe to the book. I loved the mentions of the culture, the lingo, and all of the little creatures. It really set the book apart and made it feel a lot more unique.
I’d definitely recommend this if you are looking for something light, fun, and sexy. 5 stars.
Five pineapple flavored stars! An explosive ROM-COM & intense drama packed in bright colours!
WOW! Nothing Personal by Karina Halle is a swooning romance with hilarious touches that make it such a perfect romantic comedy. This is the first time I read Karina Halle’s books and honestly it didn’t take me long to be irrevocably addicted to her writing which it is flawless & beautifully witty. She penned a funny, heartwarming and tantalising romance with some shades of a second chance romance, boss/employee love and steamy and sizzling chemistry between the main characters.
The plot is original and the storyline is well developed. The pacing is fast and the characters are complex and too real. Everything screams perfection. From the sexy cover to every beautiful word written. The story is stunning and funny – so unexpected -but and epic journey of discovery, consuming feelings, professional competition, family and love. This book has all the feels and a comedic love story full of steamy and magnetic humour that had me glued to my kindle.
Nothing Personal will sweep you to cloud nine! I loved everything about this book. This book remind me of a colorful masterpiece because it has many shades of bright colours that together create life. It is not only a simply romantic comedy. It is more. Second chance romance with enemies to lovers, office romance twists that will leave you craving and aching for more.
In my opinion this book is sweet as a pineapple, quite angsty and a little bit dramatic, a good dose of hilarious moments and a ton of laugher that combined with great characters will take readers to a wild ride, a fun one overall, but a ride full of surprises. It will take you away form the winter to a sunny beach. This book is like summer between winter.
Nova and Kessler’s story was a crazy funny journey that healed them from the turbulent past. These two are beautiful complex and dangerously explosive. Two opposites that click just right instead of the professional competition. Nova is highly driven, sassy, intelligent and sweet. She seems to be hard but she is fragile, considering her bruised heart. She really knows what heartbreak feels and she will protect her heart to any cost but will her walls resists Kessler’s charm?
Kessler is handsome AF but kind of frustrating and quite fascinating. He is strong and courageous but it took him a long time to acknowledge what he had and the mistakes he did in the past. He didn’t understand the meaning of love but he is learning and discovering everything he is missing. He broke Nova’s heart without knowing. Now will he be able to put all the pieces back together?
The love/hate line is too thing when it come to these two. When they are together they are fire. Arguing for everything is their favourite sport. And they will burn together in a passionate love they will consume their bodies. Damn it! Is hot in here !
OMG! I almost forgot to mention that the story is set in one of the most paradisiac places: Hawaii. Aloha! I absolutely recommend you this book because it has the balance between a romantic comedy and intense drama that mix nicely to create a stunning read that will make you spend a good time while reading it!
Nothing Personal by Karina Halle
I loved the sound of this blurb and, given that Halle was on a winning streak with her last few books, I requested to review immediately.
Kessler and Nova have a past in which he broke her heart without knowing how she felt about him and she reacted by moving as far away as she could – all the way to Hawaii. When Kessler shows up in Hawaii and takes the position – and therefore, promotion
– meant for Nova, she’s not about to take it lying down.
I liked the characters separately although Kessler occasionally acted like an overgrown toddler but together…. mmm I’m not so sure. I do like a second chance romance and I liked this one okay but I can’t say that I loved it or that I’d rush to read it again. I didn’t really believe there was a true connection between the two main characters so that’s where it kind of lost me. I also don’t think this was much of a romantic comedy, instead just a second chance romance. All in all, this was just okay for me.
*I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

So, I really don´t know how it could happen but I, for the first time EVER, did not love a book written by Karina as much as I used to.
I really, really enjoyed the first half of the book. I loved Nova and Kessler on their own. I adored little Hunter <- especially him and his entire cockroach thing made me laugh a lot. I loved that the book is set in Hawaii, if you follow Karina on Instagram you know Hawaii is like her second home and this is the reason why she describes all the places in Hawaii so well. I wanted to pack my stuff and fly to Hawaii when I read her Heat Wave and it was the same again with this one. Again, I really did love the first half of the book but then at some point they switched to a lot of sex and I think Karina Halle is one of the best authors out there when it comes to hot sex scenes. They were never cheap written and I never felt like I´m reading porn. But in this case there just was too much of all the sex. What´s bugging me about it the most is that Nova tells us in the beginning that he´s her #10 heartbreak and then he´s back in her life and she´s practically on all fours the second time they see each other. I mean, duh. That was a quick change of mind. I would have loved more depth in their story, would have loved more to get to know them both, would have definitely loved more of Hunter. I think for me it would have been better when things between Nova and Kessler were slower and not all rushed. I know Karina normally delivers all of the things I missed so I don´t have any doubts that her next book will be amazing again. Karina, I still love you and your books and you won´t lose me as a reader just because this one didn´t give me the butterflies. BUT if you´re looking for a quick, sweet, very sexy, second chance, enemy to lovers including a single dad romance then this book is definitely for you.
Ohana…Aloha…Pineapples…POG…Motherf..king chickens…Gecko naming…
The list goes on, but I don’t want to spoil it much more. Nothing Personal by Karina Halle takes you on a fantastic journey to Hawaii. Her words will inspire you like a beautiful sunset on North Shore. Even though I have never visited those fabulous islands, her words have made that item move up my bucket list!
This story of Nova and Kessler is just terrific! They have history and are thrust together again after years apart.
Nova is strong, she is has her armor built around her so strong because of her scars she has from the past. As her relationship with Kessler begins again, she begins to see what wearing all that armor has caused her to miss things in her life. I love how when it comes to the people she cares about she will do anything for them, even becoming an exterminator!
Kessler is a man’s man, or so he thinks. He has been through some huge changes in the years that have separated him and Nova and he has learned more about the soft side of life and what he has missed by being such a player.
Nova and Kessler’s chemistry is on fuego! What they had in the past was just as hot, but now it’s so much more!
This is a fast paced read that was hard for me to put down until it was finished. I have yet to read a Karina Halle book that I haven’t loved and I am adding this one to that list!
Ms. Halle has a way with words that bring you into her world, makes you feel like you are where she wants you to be until she is finished.
Nothing Personal gets 5 Supernova stars from me. It’s an amusing read with bouts of swooning and some very emotional revelations. Nova and Kessler are feisty characters whose back and forth bickering fueled their desire and heightened my appreciation for this story.
I always love Karina’s Rom Com’s but this is one of her best. I legit laughed out loud over and over. The predicaments and crazy antics were over-the-top hilarious and the descriptive writing created a clear picture in my mind. It was an absolutely perfect post-holiday read and I must say that the Canadian references made me connect with the story even more.
Nothing Personal is one of the sweetest and just all around perfect reads of 2018! So worth the lack of sleep! But seriously it’s a must-have on all levels!
