It’s just business, nothing personal…until your ex becomes your new boss.Nova Lane is having the worst week ever. ✔️Her latest relationship? Ended while on her much-needed vacation. ✔️First day back at work? Her beloved boss has quit. ✔️And despite all her hard work? She’s not being considered for his position. The one who is being considered is none other than Kessler Rocha. ✔️Her … other than Kessler Rocha.
✔️Her ex-coworker and ex-lover.
✔️The man who broke her heart five years earlier.
✔️The reason she moved thousands of miles away, switched jobs, and created numerous voodoo dolls in Kessler’s (very burly, very handsome) likeness.
In the corporate world they say it’s just business, nothing personal.
But with their history and all this delicious new sexual tension, Nova and Kessler are about to show just how personal things can get.
NOTHING PERSONAL is a sweet, sexy & hilarious STANDALONE ROMANCE with a single dad, enemies-to-lovers, second-chance office romance twist from the NYT Bestselling Author of A Nordic King. This book contains foul language, raunchy humor, graphic sex and loads of other fun stuff

I was 5% into this book and was hooked immediately. Nothing Personal is a delightful romantic comedy with a great spin on a second chance/office romance. I devoured it within hours as I was unable to put it down.
Kessler and Nova’s journey was entertaining and quite hilarious. They hadn’t seen or heard from each other since their break up five years ago. A lot has changed and Kessler is now the single dad of a three year old boy named Hunter(who is absolutely adorable and he had me laughing out loud so many times). I love reading a good single dad story and fortunately, Ms. Halle did not disappoint me. Kessler’s sex appeal is undeniable and combined with his single dad status, my ovaries didn’t stand a chance!!
Nova is a riot, smart, witty and very sassy. When she learns that her company ignored her for the promotion she had been wanting so badly and hired her ex lover Kessler for that position, I thought she was going to explode and this is where the real fun begins. The push/pull dynamic and the comedic banter between them was on point and definitely escalated the sexual tension. And when they got down and dirty, it was some seriously hot and tantalizing hate sex. Kessler is one heck of a dirty talker!!
Kessler and Nova stole my heart and I wanted more of this couple as I just couldn’t get enough. Nothing Personal’s plot is engaging, full depth and well written. And the epilogue is simply beautiful. It’s a definite must read!!
I’m so excited for this book! It’ll be the perfect ending to this years reads.
Bring it on Karina!!!
….these were my words before I startet the book. And as always, Karina Halle delivered.
Nothing Personal is funny and witty, it’s loaded with a heavy dose of slow burn and exquisite sexy times. But it’s also, as always, well researched and the landscaping painted in lush and vivid colors.
Nova sometimes grated hard on my nerves. Don’t get me wrong, I liked her character and her ambitions, but her behavior sometimes was just plain dumb.
Good thing she came around at the end and realized that she’s also to blame for things that happened in the past.
Kessler is really adorable, even if he’s coming on too strong sometimes. His dedication to his son is a real catcher, very endearing.
Nothing Personal isn’t Karinas best work, I found it in parts too rushed and in others just too plain. But on the other hand, in regards of enjoyment and entertainment it is totally worth to read. To be able to escape to Hawaii for a few hours is a goody on top.
Karina is and will always be my #1 go to author, even if this time her story only gets 4 stars.
4 ‘My level-ten heartbreaker’ Stars!

Karina Halle strikes again with this sweet, funny and off-the-charts hot love story! Probably my last read of 2018 and I am very happy to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nova, Kess and Hunter stole my heart with all their moments together and I am sure, if you are a fan of Karina’s lighter works, you’ll enjoy Nothing Personal too.
So, Nothing Personal is a standalone novel and it belongs to several romances tropes: it’s a romantic comedy with an enemies to lovers / office romance / second chance theme. It’s the story of Nova Lane and Kessler Rocha. Nova is a hard working woman that is expecting a promotion after her boss quits all of a sudden. Well, imagine when Kessler (her ex-coworker and ex-lover) appears to take that position. The feelings surge again, especially since Nova was absolutely heartbroken when they broke up years ago. But Kessler is not the same man: he is now a single dad of an adorable toddler and he deeply cares about Nova too.
Yes. This is the Nova I remember.
And yet this Nova now is so much more, on so many levels.
She’s my equal and she’s mine, that’s all there is to it.
I don’t know how Karina does it, seriously! But ever since I started reading her books, I haven’t stopped. And you know why I enjoyed this one so much? Because it has the same feel of the first novel I ever read by her (Smut). It’s definitely on the lighter side of Karina’s creations, it’s a romance full of hilarious moments, a couple with lots of angst and chemistry, a super cute kid and lots of emotions in between. I loved these characters: Nova is a strong and sassy heroine (my favorite!) and Kessler definitely is a hot single dad that adores his child and surely works to win Nova’s love back. I am so happy these three got their second chance and their HEA!
“You’re never the same after you get your heart broken. But if you’re just lucky enough, maybe you’ll find someone to help you pick up the pieces.”
“Even if he’s your level-ten heartbreaker?”
“Even if.”
Therefore, my rating for Nothing Personal is 4 STARS because it had all the things I enjoy in a lighter romance: banter, lots of laughter, chemistry, sexy times and all the feels! What a nice way to end 2018! Karina has become one of my favorite writers and I am sure she will continue giving us lots of amazing releases in 2019. This one was definitely amazing for me and I do recommend it to anyone who enjoys lighter romances and Karina’s writing. Check it out, guys!
“Whether you protect yourself or not, when you fall in love, it’s going to hurt.”
Nothing Personal is a fun and sexy second-chance single parent romance. I absolutely love these tropes, and it being written by one of my all time favorite authors is just the icing on the cake. This book was fast-paced, but not in a way that it felt rushed, but it just had a very smooth flow and it was easy to read. The reason for why Kessler and Nova broke up was refreshing, and not cliché. I can’t blame for Nova feeling somewhat of a resentment towards him, but eventually she admits that she was a bit to blame as well. Kessler comes across as very arrogant: someone who always gets what he wants and knows what to do, but I loved seeing his vulnerable side as well. Those moments were sometimes very funny. The story was set in Hawaii, which was perfect, and I loved getting glimpses of this beautiful state.
“I need to remember what happened the last time Kessler and I got together this way. No matter how good it feels, no matter how badly my body needs it, it’s my heart that will pay the price.”
Kessler is still trying to figure out how to be a parent, and his interaction with his son Hunter was extra cute and amusing. Nova is ambitious, and very dedicated to her job. So it means war when Kessler comes and swoops in on the position she’s been wanting for a while now. The banter between them was funny, and the sexual tensions were very high. These two were equals and they knew how to handle each other. They both went through personal growth, which made them mature and better equipped to be in a healthy relationship this time around. Karina Halle is a very talented author who keeps on delivering great stories featuring awesome characters. I fell in love with all of them, and I didn’t want to say goodbye. None of her stories feel recycled, and I always feel like her stories are refreshing and original. So make sure you one-click this fun and sexy contemporary romance.
The banter between two strong personalities is what had me sit up and take notice. Kessler and Nova are an inferno of volatile. They know what they want and will stop at nothing to get it. With Nothing Personal, Halle takes emotions by storm with a battle that is attractively wicked, yet deliciously captivating. Kessler and Nova represent what feelings convey, but are too cordial to confess.
We all know I’m a sucker for second-chance romances and I fell for this one hook, line, and sinker! I couldn’t get enough of these characters and this world! It makes me want to go back to Hawaii right now. This story was fast-paced and flowed so smoothly.
Nova and Kessler have a lot of history but I was so happy that the reason for their initial break-up was not cliche, it was unique. Five years later and Kessler has a chance at taking the job that Nova has worked so hard for. Their feelings and chemistry is so strong they can’t ignore them forever.
Kessler was arrogant and I still fell for him hard! An ex-NHL player, that was an check in the win column for me. Then so many things quickly added checks to that column. He’s a devoted single dad, admits to his mistakes, and confident in everything he does. Nova has the perfect name! She is such a fireball and spunky. The walls around her heart are just as tough as she is. She’s been through so much heartache that it’s going to take a special man to break through piece by piece.
The mix of humor, heat, and angst was so perfect! I loved the office-romance twist in this second chance romance. The banter was hilarious and I found myself giggling and laughing out loud at some of the situations these two got themselves into.
I’m living for the contemporary romances that Karina Halle keeps hitting out of the park! I love them so much! Now, I’m off to get some pineapple and a nice cold Mai Tai!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
“Nothing Personal” a full length stand alone romcom/drama novel by Karina Halle. This is a book that has some sweets, some drama, a bit of angst, a healthy dose of smexy and great dose of laughter along with whole lot of heart when combined with great main characters and a few stars who stole the ‘show’. This had all the earmarks to be a classic!!
I found this story had all kinds of goodness that had me hooked and instantly had finished it in no time flat– instantly craving more! Ms. Halle wrote a fabulous story about two people who fell in love but their HEA wasn’t immediate and the path back to one another was paved with pain and turmoil yet their 2nd chance at love was so intense and beautiful. This is one read you dont want to miss!!!!
My Rating: 4.8 stars *****
The story of Kessler and Nova is exactly like the cover. Sexy, entertaining, intense and everything delicious you can imagine. I enjoyed every moment of the book so much. It is a passionate enemies to lover second chance romance. But the characters were having so much fun and as a reader I was part of the festivities.
Nova .Oh the name cannot be more fitting for this girl, sorry, woman. She has so much fire and passion inside her to light up all lives around her. She is hard working, passionate and wears the armor of sarcasm while braving the world like a warrior princess. But her world threatens to crumble around her when level ten heartbreaker from her past, Kessler joins her company in the exact post she was aspiring to have. It causes all kinds of chaos around the serene Hawaii. This is another amazing thing about the book. The setting. I felt like a tourist experiencing all the beauty of Hawaii!
Now let’s talk about Kessler. Ex NHL player, body for a very wet dream, smart mouth with on point sense of humor, single adoring dad, arrogant, confident and everything good. How can you NOT love this guy? But even the best kind of guys make mistakes. He did too. But Nova and Kessler feel so much about each other. They have too many things going around in their lives to make everything complicated.
The story was easy to read and I had a blast. I couldnt stop myself laughing loudly at the banter and hilarious situations between Nova and Kessler. The local flavors were incorporated in the story nicely. The Hawaiian language, food, beach, traditions and animals added an interesting layer to the story. No love story is complete with own share of heartache and sadness. The sexy scenes were out of the world!
The story was a very successful cross between a sexy rom com and an intense drama. Nothing too much. Just the right balance. And you have a recipe for an absolutely beautiful and stunning read!
Karina Halle’s stories are always a “drop everything and get on it” occasion! I absolutely love the chemistry between her heroes and heroines and the spitfire back and forth banter. Nova and Kessler were great together. This second chance/office romance hit all the right buttons and had me consumed in my seat from the getgo!
Nova and Kessler were so great together! While this story was more light hearted, less angsty and more romcom -esque vs. her more raw and emotional stories in the past, I found Nothing Personal to be enjoyable as the funnier moments were a pleasant change. Nova and Kessler were both sexy and intelligent and had alot of past baggage to be sorted through. Couple that now with a new child in Kessler’s life and their new dynamic of boss/employee in the office… suffice to say there were a lot of fireworks between them!
All in all, I enjoyed Nothing Personal and seriously can’t wait for more from this author in the future! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula
