I was broken, numb to want and desire, but then he came along… Three years after the tragic events of Anna’s sixteenth birthday which saw her boyfriend killed and her kidnapped by his sadistic murderer, she’s no longer the happy-go-lucky girl that everyone used to know and love; she’s now cold, hard and suffers from night terrors. Carter is currently serving time for the murder of Jack–a … murder of Jack–a conviction that Anna helped secure–but his retrial is coming up because some key evidence appears to have been tampered with.
Needing to ensure his daughter’s safety, presidential candidate, Senator Spencer, tasks in Ashton Taylor, a newly qualified SWAT agent, to guard the broken girl and keep her safe until the end of the trial.
For three years Anna has refused to feel emotion or pain. Can Ashton help her rebuild her life and finally deal with the grief of losing her childhood sweetheart? Will he be the one to make her see that life is, in fact, worth living and that not all men will hurt her?
This original edition combines part 1 (Guarding the Broken) and part 2 (Blurring the lines) into one novel of epic proportions!

This is the best book I ever read how to be optimistic in life even after lot of hurdles
This book has everything … it’s a heart wrenchingly beautiful storyline full of action, drama, love and pain.
Yes, there is heartbreak but not of the usual kind. There’s no cheating or betrayal … but there is loss, a loss that never can have a second chance. However, there is healing too. It’s not one of those ‘insta healings’ of ‘I’m sorry and all is well’. It’s a journey for that healing to happen but a journey worth following.
If you’re anything like me, your heart will go out to these characters … some in a good way an some in a bad way. You can’t wait to see how it all ends but then you don’t want it to end. This is two books in one so there’s no cliffhanger, it’s a complete standalone. The only thing I regret is leaving it in my library so long before reading it. I knew it was going to be good so wanted to make sure I had enough time allotted to really sit back, read and enjoy. And, enjoy I did.
OBSERVATIONS:
… The first chapter brings you directly into the storyline. At that point there is no turning back. After that, one thing will be on your mind… JUSTICE. It might take a while, but justice is delivered. (Personally, I wanted to see it delivered blow by blow, letting every last person that put a finger on Jack, feel every painful blow and to know more is to come.)
… Couple things I questioned. (a) Anna left Ashton vulnerable just like she did Dean and Peter. Moving away left no bargaining chip and she realized that the first time so why do the same thing the second time? Fortunately, Carter was more responsive to her pleas than his hooligans.
(b) Why didn’t help come when she kept screaming for it? Lots of people on that dance floor to witness what was happening. And when they went to leave, they weren’t in a back alley. They were in the open.
… The book needs a different cover. This latest one doesn’t do it justice. Anna looks like a promiscuous, wild woman here and she is anything but that. The first cover was much better.
Love this storyline. Great book
5 amazing stars for this epic read!! I could not put this book down and I’m absolutely gutted it has taken me so long to read it. Oh the angst.. it made this book a real pager turner, I just had to know what was coming next. Oh the heartache… I reached for the kleenex multiple times. Oh the joy…. yes I smiled and laughed a lot too. In a nutshell, this book was such an emotional read with all the feels and well I absolutely loved it!!
I loved this book! It was very real. The story was well thought out and the romance was amazing! I have read it multiple times! It is definitely a page-turner!
Oh man, this book. Talk about such a heartbreaking journey that these characters go through. Kirsty did such an amazing job conveying the emotions that both of these characters are going through but especially Annabelle. Annabelle has been through more than anyone should since she was 16 and it has irrevocably changed her life since. Her heart is so big and it has been filled with so much love and guilt for Jack that there isn’t any room for anyone else. She isn’t about to open herself up to anyone and subject herself to the feeling of lose again.
Annabelle is going to have a fight on her hands because Ashton is a forced to be reckoned with and he could be the best thing that has ever happened to her if she would just open herself up to him. Will she be able to overcome some of her past trauma? Will she open herself up to anyone? Will she share the secrets she keeps inside herself?
I highly recommend this book and I can’t wait for the next in this series!
I devoured this book…. (part 1 & part 2) in only 2 days!!! I couldn’t put it down!!!
If you want an emotional read that will keep you on the edge of your seat then this is the book to get!!! Kirsty knows not only how to break your heart but how to slowly, and I mean slowly mend it back up, just to break it all over again.
This book had me not only crying and on the edge of my seat, it had me laughing my ass off. The banter between these two characters as well as Ashton’s friends will have you chuckling right along with them.
I just can’t say how much I loved this story.
I now want to read Nate’s story as well as all of Kirsty’s other books.
