I knew when I opened the first page this would be a great story. Of course I was not disappointed because Sherry Ewing is a master of drawing the reader in and not letting go until the end. This is the tale of the arranged marriage of a young girl, Lady Gwendolyn to a man old enough to be her father. It was actually her father who had sealed the deal prior to his death. Determined to make the best of it, she really had no chance because her husband was very cruel and had some secrets problems and blamed her for his shortcomings. In a chance meeting while she is out with her brother, a man happens to meet her eye and they are both struck immediately by each other. Neville, Earl of Drayton is actually a business associate of her brothers and they are introduced that fateful day. Thus an emotional roller coaster begins as Gwendolyn and Neville run into each other and then are put together at times. But what can become of their attraction? She is married after all.
Through page after page, I could not wait to find out what happened and at the end my heart smiled for this couple! I truly cannot wait for more in this series to see how some of the secondary characters find their Happy Ever After.
Wow! I loved this book. I cried several times while reading. I was surprised that you could read about infidelity and yet still want the leading man and lady to end up together. Gwendolyn and Neville were put to the test and I cannot blame Gwendolyn for doing what she did. Thank goodness her brother, Brandon, was there to help her. Along with her best friend Calliope. I can hardly wait for Sherry Ewing’s next book in this series. Sherry is a new author for me but trust me when I say I will be reading a lot more of her books. This is easily a book you could read in one sitting … of course I did only because I could not stop reading it until I made sure that Gwendolyn and Neville smarted up and realized where they belonged. It took them a bit…they were both worried about Society…funny times back then. I highly recommend this book!
Forced to marry a much older man, Lady Gwendolyn’s life is very dark and unhappy. Meeting Neville, Earl of Drayton, brings a ray of sunshine and love into her life. Never has he loved a woman like her. Never has she given her heart.
A forbidden love in a hopeless situation. Time maybe all they have.

Lady Gwendolyn is forced into a marriage with a loathsome, abusive man by her older brother. Then she meets her younger brother’s business associate, Neville Quinn, and falls in love. Will this couple have patience to wait for each other without causing a scandal after the cruel husband becomes ill, then dies?
I appreciated the regency flavor of this story about forever love, tested by time. And I love this author’s books.

What an amazing story of a triangle of trouble, unhappiness and romance. Gwen is a young lady married to Sandhurst who is a lecher and old enough to be Gwen’s father. There was trouble in the marriage from the beginning and Sandhurst blamed Gwen for everything. Her life was miserable. Sandhurst kept her close to him and did not let her make calls or receive her best friend. Gwen heart is a tender one, being abused by her husband and she did not know how long she could take it. When she met Neville, they had an instant connection. Though they tried to keep it at a friendship level they could not. Gwen had run away to Scotland with Neville to avoid Sandhurst’s plans of a honeymoon aboard his boat. Sandhurst finally came to drag Gwen back but without her brother’s consent he would have to wait, or would he? He abducted her and kept her on a boat for about a month. Sandhurst was seriously ill. They returned to London for him to recuperate but with his dying breath he cursed her and Neville’s future that he would always be with her and never let her go. The mourning period was excruciating for both Gwen and Neville as they did not want to shame their family or provide fodder for gossip. They had to wait till the mourning period was over. It wasn’t until an old acquaintance of Neville and Gwen’s best friend gave them both the same advice. Don’t wait to be happy. An emotionally moving story that had a bittersweet ending.

A fast paced love affair! Lady Gwendolyn Worthington must marry a man as old as her father. Lord Sandhurst is a true nightmare. He blackmailed Gwen’s father into giving Gwen to him in marriage. Only her brother the new Duke knows exactly why he must adhere to the contract, to save his family from ruin and scandal. Lord Edmond Worthington is not happy about it but he maintain an aloof attitude which infuriates Gwen and her younger brother Brandon. After being married for six months Brandon makes a bold move and encourages Gwen and Lord Neville Quinn into a friendship that grows quite intense.
Gwen is miserable, and still a virgin. Her husband is a cruel, impotent bully! He blames her for his problem and is so cruel that Gwen decides that if she wants to be or experience happiness she must find it herself. Lord Neville is the perfect man. She develops feeling for Neville and in quick work the two fall in love. They escape to the Berwyck Castle and the two make some important and dangerous decisions. He husbands finds her and kidnaps her onto his ship. He becomes ill and Gwen makes the decision to order the ship home where her life changes forever. Will Neville find and wait for her or is she destined to be unhappy forever? A true Sherry Ewing classic.
