Emma Harris is learning that life is just a series of lessons.
Lesson #1: Nothing goes the way you plan.
Lesson #2: You can’t trust men. Especially not the pretty ones.
Lesson #3: Turns out, appearances are almost always deceiving.
Emma thinks she has life all figured out, and what she knows isn’t good. For years, she’s put her big sister, who was born with Down syndrome, first. Now Emma’s … syndrome, first. Now Emma’s ready to start her own life, but fate has other plans. To do the right thing for the sister she loves, Emma’s dreams will just have to wait.
She doesn’t plan on meeting Landon — a rich, flirtatious jock, who never has to wait for anything. Not for attention, not for money, and certainly not for girls. Meeting Emma marks the first time in his life that he’s had to fight for something. And Landon doesn’t know how to lose.
Emma has no interest in wasting her summer with a superficial guy like Landon. But very soon she realizes she is wrong about him. The question is, can she trust him? Or will he let her down like every other guy in her life? But most importantly, can Emma trust herself enough to live the life she’s always dreamed of?
Life has a way of sneaking in the most important lessons when you aren’t looking. And once the heart gets involved, that’s when the real learning begins.

“You’re all in my head. I can’t stop thinking about you.”
I read this book at the perfect time, I was in a book funk and had read a couple of historical romances I couldn’t really get into. When I had the opportunity to read this book I grabbed it with both hands because I didn’t have anything to read. Normally I read a couple of reviews to get an idea what the book is about but decided to go in blind with this book. I recommend you to do the same, I will try to keep this review general and not spoil anything.
Laura Ward did such a great job with this book, I enjoyed it a lot. All the characters were special in so many ways. The two main characters Landon and Emma go through such a character development in this book. It was absolutely beautiful to see such characters grow. I loved how they met: Landon is this popular player and Emma is this ice queen who doesn’t want anything to do with guys, but there is attraction between the two. I loved how Landon was able to break down Emma’s wall and how Emma was able to teach Landon to look at the world in a different way. They were perfect for each other BUT the timing wasn’t right.
“Remember… it’s just not yet for us.”
Landon is keeping something from Emma, he doesn’t think it’s anything major but in the wrong setting it is such a big thing. It broke my heart when this secret came out. I will not go into this and hopefully you won’t predict what it is.
I am in love with Emma’s sister Evie who has Down Syndrome, she is just the best. I love how innocent she is and has such a simple way of looking at the world and situations. Emma is very protective of her big sister Evie, she has sacrificed a lot for her but would do it all again in a heartbeat. Emma is only 21 but is very mature for her age. She teaches Landon to look differently at people and the world.
There were a couple of scenes where I had to wipe away tears. This book made me feel so many different emotions: fun, angst, sadness, anger and happiness. I am going to be honest and say that normally I wouldn’t have read this book if I had read the blurb because I mainly read dark/angsty romances. But I am so glad I gave this book a chance because I really enjoyed it a LOT! I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. I just saw that a character from this book will get his own book, so I am super excited for that book to release!! This was my first book by the author but it won’t be my last!
