Mixed feelings. Short review. James and Miranda have been living next door to each other for a few months it isn’t until last few days that they finally meet. How James and Miranda finally meet each other will have you laughing and wanting to give poor Miranda a hug in between cracking up at her situation. I did find Miranda annoying during certain parts of the story and I wanted to shake some sense into her about the way she treated James, James on the other hand was such a good character that you want to see end up happy. The last few chapters felt like it was written for shock and to throw a wrench in the story, it really wasn’t needed, maybe if it had been written halfway through the story and not at the very end I wouldn’t had had such a problem with it. That’s why I’m not giving the book four stars.

Contemporary Romance: This story follows the lives of Miranda and James. The former a pet-sitter and event manager, who just want to get away from her parents and a painful relationship with her ex. And James, the businessman and womanizer whose only love was his job until he met the so-called right woman. They meet and that’s it… you know the rest. Is that enough to keep you engaged during 400 pages?
zZz: Let me answer that question: big fat NO! This book is boring. A true challenge to keep awake while dealing with the uneventful lives of these characters. Just a sex scene after another that bring almost nothing to the plot. Well, actually… that is normal. If there is no plot, nothing you write can add to it… We are told about sweet scenes and interesting talks that happen behind the scenes… something that should have been narrated to the reader in order to feel somekind of love development. But no… it seems the author thought we were only interested in the naughty bits. It is a shame. The story started really well, with some sense of humor that made it easy-to-read; but that style is fast discarded and forgotten…
Angry, $$$, Love?: The worst part of the book is no doubt James’ courting techniques. He blatantly uses his money to manipulate MIranda’s life in order to leave her in a fragil situation where he can hunt his prey. And she is none the wiser! How unhealthy and wrong is that? How can the author expect that we are going to believe a love story based on lies and manipulations? That was so utterly bad, that I think the accident was added to create somekind of empathy towards James. Mission failed. I wished for his death… There… I said it!
Great cover: I must admit that Oliver Hines looks really good in that pic. The cover designer did a great job with the display, but 75% of the job was already done after choosing such shot. I could even dare to say it is one of the few pics of this guy where he looks great. In my opinion, it is not an easy model to capture. And yes, I picked the book bercause the cover caught my eye. Something I can say about most of Donna Alam’s books (she is a lucky author in that regard), but after this first fiasco I will wait longer than expected to pick another one. But I’m all about second and third chances, so sooner or later I will read another of her books.
This book is funny, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
Omg you have done it again Donna. Another book i lost lots of sleep for. Couldnt put it down. A must read book.
James was a hot alpha that new what he wanted and i loved that from the start he took the responsibility with both hands and never gave in and left. Like alot of men would.
Miranda was very scared to take risks but at the same time couldnt stay away.
When James got hurt i cried but glad it all came together in the end.
(Not) the one by Donna Alam a five-star read that is the one you need to read. This woman has a way with words that mean I wouldn’t kick her out of bed for eating cat food (only the fanciest cat food for furless pussies mind) never mind kick out the hunk of beef she has written about in this story, because he’s yummier than the aforementioned cat food looks on the adverts and weirdly yoga puts me off unless its done in a kilt of course so I was a tad hesitant at first. But then I started reading more and laughing more and leaking, (it was worth the leaking I’m not going to lie). Donna Alam you are the one.
Donna does it again. This book was amazing. I loved everything about it. James and Miranda are one hot couple. Talk about opposites attract. This series of hers is now my favorite. All her male characters are the hottest men in books. Especially James. Love this book so much.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
Miranda Henry has become a glorified pet sitter/house watcher. Her current job has become the most difficult as the cat has run away to her neighbors and through the dog door. Like any adventurer with batman undies, Miranda decides to crawl through the dog door only to end up on all fours in front of her hot neighbor.
James “Harry” Harrison cant believe the beautiful bounty in his dog door and he is intrigued. One thing leads to another and Miranda and James begin a intimate relationship without the relationship. What happens when Miranda becomes pregnant, can they keep it strictly sex or can they begin to build something together?
I liked this, at times Miranda was her own worst enemy with her feelings. An older man/younger woman romance. I thought the beginning was hilarious. Great read.
I really enjoyed this book, the whole night stand/unexpected pregnancy is always a favorite trope of mine but this was a bit more. Funny and quirky, with an emotional journey that I loved taking. Miranda is crazy, unexpected and unsure of taking a chance on James. James is older, wiser and richer (which is part of the problem) and just sure enough for the both of them.
An entertaining, easy to read story. Miranda and James meet whilst she is cat sitting and stuck in his doggy door trying to retrieve her charge. Their journey is far from sweet but has a lovely ending.
Ove all of Donna Alam books!
I loved (Not) The One. Miranda and James are a fantastic couple with so much chemistry. Some of their interactions had me laughing so hard. Then there were the very emotional parts. I had to keep my tissue box close. The ending was surprising. I would definitely recommend this book.
3.5 Cranky Stars

Some loves are short stories, and some are novel length. Some are just tiny bylines in our lives.
Miranda has had a rough go in her life. He best friend slept with her fiance, her parents issued WW3 and she is currently living in the war zone. The only highlight in her life is her job at E-Volve, a start up dating agency, and the HOT yoga guy next door.
James is pet sitting his dads dog when suddenly he finds Miranda stuck in the doggy door. A rip of her skirt and some stylish bat man underwear makes her completely irresistible to him. Now he can’t get her out of his mind.
When life brings them together for more than a one night stand James finds that he wants more, now he just needs to convince her.
This story is really cute and I loved the characters. At points it was hard to follow as it jumped around a bit too much. I did like it and will definitely read the next book.
I can always count on a Donna Alam book to provide lots of sexy times and plenty of humor. (Not) The One was definitely an enjoyable time. I might be a little in love with James. He totally swoon-worthy! I liked that it wasn’t insta-love for he and Miranda. They had to work a little for their HEA but it was so worth it.
This is a fun, cute sexy book.. Miranda is stubborn to a fault. she has is not a big believer in love. Her past and present says that love turns into something that is not so sweet. Her parents have created a war zone and her ex fiancee slept with her ex best friend. When she meets James she is not ready for love. He is rich, gorgeous and older. she sees all differences and tries to ignore the good. James is also stubborn. He knows they are a perfect match. He has to be patient and somewhat devious to get her to see things his way. A relationship shy woman, a man who knows what he wants, an unexpected pregnancy and whole lot of dirty talk makes for a very entertaining read.
This story features Miranda and James/Harry. The first half of this book contains a tremendous amount of filler story that was completely unnecessary. There was so much that I almost stopped reading BUT I’m glad I didn’t. Their initial meeting was hilarious and involved a doggy door! I do not think his reason for not coming back was good enough. He is the super sexy, slightly (15 years) older, rich guy that sets his sights on the younger, not rich, beautiful woman. His pursuit of her is envious! I really can’t get deeper into it without screaming “SPOILERS!” The plot twist just about knocked me out of my chair! I was happy, and crying ugly sad tears and then back to happy. That was all within two minutes!
The romance running throughout really was beautiful. The character growth in Miranda was tremendous! Had this story been shorter, without all the filler story in the beginning, it would have been a 5-Star read!
To Have and Hate was my first book by Donna Alam. It was a fantastic read so I was excited for (NOT) The One.
We meet the two main characters in that book.
Chance meeting…Miranda gets stuck in James’ father’s doggy door..which was hilarious.
The chemistry between the two was off the charts- older man (over a decade), younger woman.
Accidental/unexpected pregnancy with some twists and turns.
I enjoyed it but felt like a tad too wordy at some points.
Still..I highly recommend this one.

(Not) The One by Donna Alam is an awesome read.Delightful, sizzling hot chemistry and enjoyable story of James and Miranda,i couldnt put it down,i just loved it! anothe great book by the author! a must have and read! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book
Not only does Alam have a rollicking sense of humor and an uncanny ability to write imaginative sex scenes but she can also tear your heart out. This great read does all this and more while telling the romance of 22-year-old Miranda and 38-year- old James. Miranda thought the two just weren’t ‘suited’ not only because of age but economic and cultural differences. How long will she be able to hold out?
For someone who isn’t the one…
He sure seems like a keeper to me!
Donna Alam gives us an accidental pregnancy with THE ONE NIGHT STAND. With the unforgettable meet cute, zany conversations, and extremely entertaining rationalizations, (Not) The One is perfect for all in search of the one. Or not…but definitely The One!
Sexy, sweet, and feisty these two have their work cut out for them. No worries though because Donna Alam is going to make you work for this HEA.
Romance both fun, warm and tender, even tragical
Very good dialogues, fun especially at the beginning, and with fabulous characters: Miranda sets the tone from the first lines. The second part of the story is more tender and simple than the first part, which is more funny during the conversations between Miranda and Heather.
Miranda works in an online dating agency, but she also does pet sitting. When an animal has escaped, she finds herself stuck in the neighbor’s cattery. Their meeting will be explosive, but once the night passed, they do not see each other, despite themselves, both thinking it was only one night. James has a gallery of art and rubs rich people, and when Miranda realizes this, she does not have any illusions. Yet when their paths cross again, their alchemy is explosive. (The scenes can be extremely hot because of the temperaments of Miranda and James.)
