An office attraction becomes something more when they’re off the clock in this delightful romantic comedy by the USA Today bestselling author of Not the Girl You Marry.State attorney Bridget Nolan is successful in all aspects of her life—except romance. After breaking up with her longtime boyfriend, she’s been slow to reenter the dating scene. To be honest, she has more important things to do … more important things to do like putting bad guys behind bars. But with her brother’s wedding right around the corner, she suddenly needs a date and fast. Lucky for Bridget, the legal intern is almost done with his program.
Matt Kido is dumbstruck by Bridget—total love at first sight—but there’s one problem. She’s totally off-limits while she’s his boss. But the moment he no longer reports to her, Matt decides to take a chance. An impulsive decision takes them to Las Vegas where, as the saying goes, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
Unless you put a ring on it.

Not That Kind of Guy by Andie J. Christopher brings us Bridget Nolan, the sister to our hero in book one, Not the Girl You Marry.
Bridget is a lawyer who works for the state’s attorney office. She’s recently broken up from her long time boyfriend and has no interest venturing back onto the dating scene. Matt becomes her intern for the summer. He’s flirtatious and charming. There’s an undeniable attraction between Matt and Bridget. He likes her but he knows it won’t go anywhere; however, that doesn’t stop him from trying.
Once the internship is over they decide to become friends. Bridget invites Matt to come with her to Vegas for Jack and Hannah’s (book one’s couple) bachelor/bachelorette party and… What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas as one drunken night with Matt ends up in wedding bells.
I really liked the premise of the book and how Andie unfolds the plot. This book would have been 3 stars if it weren’t for the 80% mark when I reached THE moment and everything went down hill drastically. The whole ‘Matt loves her then thinks she’s after his money’ thing was just unnecessary drama. At that point, the appeal of Matt was lost in my eyes and there was no redeeming him.
Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the way the author has connected this series thus far, reuniting me with some beloved characters from book one. Initially, I was super excited to dive into this book, but sadly I was let down. Maybe my hopes were too high. Or maybe this author just isn’t for me. Regardless, she is still very much talented; it’s evident in her writing style, so I suggest you take a chance on her storytelling before coming to conclusions based solely on reviews.
Cute! I love a “oops we’re married” or a fake dating trope, and this sort of felt like a combo between the two. I’m excited to read more by this author. The two main characters work together, the H is a from an affluent well-known family and wants to escape that for a bit, while the h is an established middle class lawyer tasked with taking on an intern, and she takes on H at the suggestion from her boss that knowing him might help get her into a program that pays better and is run by his parents. There is an instant attraction, but neither of them acts on it, because of the boss/intern power dynamic, but once the internship ends, he’s ready to make his move. This move includes helping her get to a bachelorette weekend with her family in Vegas, using his private jet, and the two end up drunk in front of an Elvis impersonator and married. They both agree it was too hasty and they barely know each other, but there is that spark and they both feel like keeping up the appearance of being married might help them while they wait for their divorce to go through. Faking a healthy marriage leads them to explore some real feelings, and it was just an overall fun read.
Emotional, funny and filled with heart. I loved Bridget and Matt and their journey toward happily ever after. You can’t go wrong with an Andie J. Christopher book!
Bridget Nolan is a rock star state attorney, and she loves putting bad guys away. Her life is her work, especially after breaking up with her longtime (and only ever) boyfriend 2 years before. Her brother Jack (the hero from Not the Girl You Marry) is getting married soon, so her single status is on her mind, but she doesn’t think she’ll ever settle down with anyone again. It didn’t work out for her, and she just doesn’t think it’s for her. When her boss saddles her with a summer law school intern, who is from a family akin to American royalty, she’s not thrilled. But she has no idea the ride she’s truly in for.
Matt Kido’s family is extremely wealthy, but he’s never really thought much about it, or how it affects his daily life. When he caught his (now ex-)girlfriend cheating, he just knew he couldn’t stand to intern at a law firm with her all summer, so he dropped his prestigious internship at a big, fancy firm, and went to work at the State Attorney’s office. He just needed some room from all the things in his life that weren’t going great. When he first sees Bridget, he’s struck dumb by her, but he knows nothing can happen while he’s working for her. But, once his internship concludes at the end of the summer? All bets are off.
Matt and Bridget had mega chemistry from the start, and they both properly ignored it while they would’ve been in too vulnerable a position for a relationship. Once his job was over, and they headed to Vegas for Jack and Hannah’s bachelor/ette parties, they could hardly wait to get their hands on each other. But, neither of them ever planned on waking up MARRIED. They both had huge reasons why the marriage was a mistake, but they both had equally compelling reasons to want to stay in it. It was interesting to see the push and pull they both experienced internally in that regard.
Both Matt and Bridget had pretty terrible exes, and each of them were terrible in their own way. To be honest, I felt there was kind of a lot of time spent on the exes. It felt like they, or remnants of the mess they left behind, took up a big chunk of the story. I understand that both Matt and Bridget had issues, that emanated from their prior relationships, that needed solving, but I feel like that could’ve been handled without actually seeing so much of the jerks themselves on the page. Maybe I’m super sensitive to mega ex drama, but it felt like kind of a lot at times.
I loved Bridget’s relationship with her sister-in-law Hannah, and Hannah’s BFF Sasha. They really became good friends between Hannah’s book and this one, and I enjoyed their connection so much. Also, Hannah can carry a grudge on someone else’s behalf like a boss, and I love that about her. She was fully there for Bridget, and I was glad to see them caring about each other so much. Jack and the rest of Bridget’s family are pretty great too, and I enjoyed seeing them all again. Meanwhile, Matt’s family had a pretty textbook old money dynamic that kind of made you hate them. I wish I could’ve liked his mom, but she was pretty terrible. She seemed to wield her power over him, all in the name of loving him, and I can’t stand that. I thought Bridget did a perfect job dealing with her.
Overall I enjoyed this story, but I didn’t totally love the way the whole end went down. I understand doing things in a different way than what people might expect, but I wish some things had been different. (There is DEFINITELY an HEA, no worries about that FYI!) But, I’m pretty sure that’s just a me issue, and I mostly got over it. I enjoyed this book, and I will definitely continue to read stories from this author. If you enjoyed Not the Girl You Marry, I think you’ll definitely like this one too!
This book has so much of my catnip in it. Boss/employee! Vegas wedding! Sorta-fake-marriage-sorta-marriage-of-convenience! Bridget and Matt are dynamite!
Bonus: I loved seeing Hannah from Bridget’s POV. It was a cherry on top of a delightful book!
Andie keeps getting better and better. From the woman who invented the term ‘stern brunch daddy,’ she sure knows how to craft a hero, and a heroine who brings a man to his knees. I really had fun reading this book!
I am the BIGGEST fan of this author. Nothing does what she does with characters and her story building and this book was absolutely everything. Over all a solid 4 star read for me!
Matt was literally the BEST guys. Literally one of my top book boyfriend of the year. I could not have loved him more in this book. Throw in Bridget being her epic self and this book was a blast. I loved how strong the heroine was in this read. She held her own. This was not a damsel in distress in this read.
This was a romcom movie in book form and was completely an enjoyable read.
So if you want to know what the book is really about take the movie What Happens In Vegas ( Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher) throw the mother from Crazy Rich Asians (mans mother) and add a dash of lawyers to the mix and you have the book Not That Kind Of Guy.
I really applaud Andie J. Christopher for her main character Bridget Nolan being older then her “Love Interest” Matt Kido. I haven’t read a lot of romance novels where the woman is just a few years older then the man. Which makes it unique in my book.
The beginning of the book started out really slow but finally picked up around page 80 with a shocking discovery of the main characters.
