The story take place in the near future with a group of people who will be able to create digital copies of themselves so that after they are dead, they can interact with their love ones. This is reminds me of something that was on TV in the late 70s or early 80s.
The story is about Frank Einstein and his partner Sam Sunborn who are attacked by by terrorist leader the Leopard. Frank is killed in the process. He just happened to be wearing the device to digitize himself at the time so all of his information up to the point of death is available to him.
They travel across the US trying to capture the Leopard with a local police detective and Rich Little from Homeland Security (no not the famous one). As they travel you get pulled into the story and start to like each one of the characters. I listened to this story on the audio book and it is amazing how it did hold my interest but also it was scary because I could see something like this happening in the future.
Sorry Charles, just too many books, same title.
This is Charles ‘ first book, and I am honored that he asked me read and review it.WOW ! Where to start. This is one of t(e most brilliant works I have read in my 66 years. It is a bizarre marriage of cutting-edge IT with global terrorism. The premise of his work is the culmination of Digitalizing a human total personal… experience, intelligent, emotions. Where the body may die, but what makes that person alive and real can become eternal. Now add to that the concept of terrorists change tactics and move to Cyber Warfare.
Now take an ironclad plot, beleavable charecters And you have a perfect vehicle for an Amazon or Netflix miniseries. A truly first class adventure.
I was surprised at the ending, as I didn’t see that coming. Boy, the character “The Leopard” was certainly a creepy and unlikable person. This story was mystery, action, techno and sci fi all wrapped up in one story. It was also the good versus evil concept with an international influence. Great concept of living eternally as a digital version of ourselves.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the story and look forward to listening to the next book in the series.
When technology collides with psychology and terror the inconceivable follows
Wit and wisdom may be the only recourse against cold and calculated action
Death might well be just another variable in the ultimate calculation
Never having read anything by Charles Levin I wasn’t sure what to expect with Not so Dead but know that readers who love techno thrillers will love this book. It is classic edge of the seat suspense as brilliant computer scientists are able to bring about immortality by digitizing their personalities. Ruthless terrorists wreaking havoc and a race against time to stop worldwide destruction and ‘wow, I didn’t see that coming’ scenes, kept my interest high. I look forward to finding out more about Sam Sunborn and his diverse team. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own. Daniel Greenberg does a great job narrating the book which made for an enjoyable listening experience.
With adult language, some violence, and intimate scenes, the book is more suitable for a mature audience.
I read book 3 of this series first and I had to go back to the beginning. It’s intriguing to think of having the technology to store your personality “in the cloud” after you are dead. No body that needs sleep, nanosecond thought responses. It’s a good thing that one of the good guys has been digitized so that when he dies, his mind can help to stop a brilliant bad guy from destroying the world. This book is very well written and the story line is intriguing. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys complex thrillers.
This is one of the best books I’ve read in a great while. Even though the book is largely wrapped around cyberspace it has a family sense to it too. The characters are linked to each other as they try to stop the bad guys. I was unable to put it down unless it HAD to be done so I could get to work. Everyone should read it!!
This is an amazingly original book about a terroristic threat. It is fun to read and the anticipation of what will happen next will have you on the edge of your seat. Not So Dead is a magnificent read.
I have both the audio version and the eBook version. The review is based on the audio version.
If the author is reading this I am sure he will get the pun I am about to make as he references it a few time in the book.
This book takes place 20 seconds into the future. Unlike the other dystopian books I have read, this is more of a normal future. We have our alphabet soup of government agencies. We have people who love each other, people who protect them, and people who are just people. But I get ahead of myself.
The idea of the book is that in the near future we will have one group of people who will be able to create digital copies of themselves so that after they are dead, they can interact with their love ones. This is close to a concept that many countries as well as a few terrorist organizations are working on. Sam Sunborn and partner Frank Einstein are attacked by terrorist leader the Leopard. Frank is killed in the process. He just happened to be wearing the device to digitize himself at the time so all of his information up to the point of death is available to him.
From this point they travel across the US trying to capture the Leopard with a local police detective and Rich Little from Homeland Security (no not the famous one). As they travel you get pulled into the story and start to like each one of the characters. You want to keep turning the page, or in my case, listen just a few minutes more. I listen to audiobooks while driving to and from work. When I would get to my destination many times I would sit there and at least finish the chapter I was in.
Age wise I would say older teen through adult. Killing is a big part of the story. If you are interested in suspense stories with a little science fiction, this would be a good choice for you. I would recommend it.
