Not Quite a Lady, Not Quite a Knight is a sweet and tender Regency novella with a few twists and a lot of love. Both Addie and Phineas are very likable, as are the two main supporting characters. Isabella Thorne has written a quick and easy romance that’s enjoyable and has a smile-worthy happy ending.
Disclosure: I received an complementary copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
The eighth book in the Nettlefold Chronicles a well written story that held my interest until the end. This is Miss Constance Adelaide Waltham and Mr. Phineas Ainsworth’s story which I enjoyed reading. Addie had been kidnapped by human traffickers but managed to escape. The story has suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping, a villain, and romance. I want to read more in this series.
This is a fun little tale with a bunch of little twist. The characters are engaging and not what they initially seem on the outside. I got a kick how everything was plotted out by the Uncle and two people fell in love. You’ll like this romance, it is fun and quirky.
I absolutely loved it! This book is very well written, and is a sweet, clean romance full of adventure and mystery. The characters are wonderful and engaging, and you feel like you get to know each one. The story line is well put together and has a very nice happily ever after ending. The book is full of adventure and mystery from cover to cover, and i couldn’t put it down. Isabella Thorne did a wonderful job on this book, and it was a pleasure to read.
I loved reading this story. The H and h’s personalities were real and down-to earth, honest. This story is full of past horror, danger, devastation, human trafficking all done by members of the ton. Our h escaped from her abductors but even though she kept her innocence she was ruined by association. When she returned to her parents, she was met with devastating news. She left to start a new life somewhere else under a different name and a false background. She felt ashamed for what she had been through. One thing for sure, she is resilient, honest, hardworking and a friend to all. Working as a barmaid in a little village, she met the H. On first appearance he was a traveling fortune teller. According to the h he was a fraud and wanted nothing to do with him. Unfortunately, her heart said otherwise. The H was attracted to her immediately and tried to explain that he did not deal in duplicity but in hope and love. After several interactions she was convinced that he was a good man not out to harm anyone. Then he dropped a bomb on her and her life was never the same. The H convinced her to go back to London with him and visit a long lost relative of her fathers. The H had proof that what he said was true. He handed gave her father’s signet ring. That convinced her. She met with her uncle and they established a warm and loving relationship. He reintroduced her to the ton. Then she saw him. One of her abductors. The H had lost his sister to these nefarious men and the h hatched a dangerous plan. Such a romance, true, honest, beautiful. A worthy read.
Not Quite a Lady; Not Quite a Knight is a very enjoyable read. Isabella Thorne has outdone herself with this sweet romance that is well-written, filled with a magnificent cast of characters, a strong plot and great dialogue bring this read together perfectly! Be swept away with Phineas a fortune-teller with a suave personality who on his way to London meets Addie a girl who works at the Bell and Whistle, neither are what they seem. With a villain slinking in the background waiting to strike their next victims Addie risks ruination to herself and those she loves to stop others from being hurt. It’s a sweet romance with uncertainty, human trafficking, blackmail, deception, drama, suspense, insecurities, fear of rejection and twists and turns abound that make for one sigh worthy romance.
Isabella Thorne’s book, Not Quite a Lady, Not Quite a Knight, is really cute and has a great ending. It’s a sweet and clean love story with great characters. I think my favorite part was the character’s desire to do the right thing, help those they loved, strength to overcome hardships. Great story!
Enjoyed this story with Addie who was captured by a human trafficer but escaped now working in a tavern as a bar maid. When Phineas comes into the bar while traveling around looking for his sister who has also been captured by the same people. They strike up a friendship of sorts that leads to more as they spend time together. This is a well written book about this type of crime that still exist to day and loved the characters in this book. This author can always deliver a great book.
This wonderful book had a good storyline and nicely created characters that kept me totally captivated as I turned each and every page until the very end!
ONE SPOTLIGHTING THRILL RIDE!!!
Flabbergasted! Isabella dispenses a refreshing spin, targeting the aristocrats of the ton and blowing it wide open, throwing it into a tizzy with an explosive culmination. A raging tempest of inexplicable events and unbelievable circumstances, propel those churning emotions into play, binding this baby together piece by piece. Add drama, intrigue, turmoil, tension, abduction, dastardly intentions, mounting suspense and unexpected situations, along with a boatload of danger, while dodging disaster in the wings, you have one mind-blowing adventure. Struggling through the trials and tribulations, unimaginable twists and shocking turns blasts this bad boy to life spectacularly. The characters and their on point personalities are authentic and realistic with depth and qualities that blend and flow. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there with them instead of on the sidelines. Remarkable job Isabella, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
Enjoyed reading this. It had some intrigue plus and everything gets tied in and revealed by the end. Of course it is always nice to end up with a happy ever after romance when all has put tog
Romance, mystery and action all included!
This is a clean romance. Although Addie wanted to be independent and didn’t want a man in her life, Ainsworth wasn’t taking no for an answer. He continue to charm her and draw her out of her ownself.
Once he was positive of her identity, he told her she has a relative looking for her. He even had proof he wasn’t up to no good. Once arriving in London and going to her first ball she recognizes someone who was involved in a serious offense against her. As things unravel and go from bad to worse, the ending will please you!
Addie is a perfect example of making the best of the hand you are dealt. She is so humble and bold. This get’s right into the dark secrets of the snobbish regency but it’s well written and not too in-depth to overshadow the romance of the story. Phineas is definitely her knight in shinning armour. Her uncle is such a loving supportive man. Such a touching story from beginning to end. I received a free copy from the author without obligation and am voluntarily reviewing.
I had received a free copy of this book, but this review is my honest opinion. I really enjoyed the book. Isabella did a good job of character development, and I enjoyed the plot. It was an interesting twist in comparison with other books I have read.
SETTING: This is an engrossing story of the heartbreak of human trafficking in the 1800’s, and we glimpse just a bit of the heartache the victims and the families of such girls experience, and the attempts to find them long after they have disappeared. It is also a tender love story of Addie, one of the victims who escaped, and Phineas, whose sister has yet to be found. Just when Addie’s life finally seems to have straightened out, and she and Phineas are growing close, all is at risk of being lost when Addie foolishly thinks she can confront one of the perpetrators of the crimes against young women and come out unscathed! Will she be able to escape his clutches a second time?
CRITIQUE: The story is well written, and the reader’s interest is kept from the beginning, as we try to ascertain Addie’s story from the few clues we are given. I found I could not put the book down as I became engaged in the story. Addie and Phineas are characters we grow to like. There is a tremendous tension built up when Addie confronts the “Lord” who sold her. How she, her Uncle Elton and Phineas then handle this problem is a reasonable, rational approach that results in there being HEAs for many people, Addie and Phineas. I appreciate the delicate handling of a horrendous crime that unfortunately continues to occur in our day, in a way that gives hope to those victims who survive.
Human traffic, danger and romance in this interesting and entertaining story that left me wanting more. Liked Phineas mysterious and different character, the way the author presented the awful situation of the heroine and the HEA. Good characters, strong emotions and suspense that kept me reading intrigued. First time I had read about this issue in a Regency story from the victim POV.
This is a Regency romance that appears to be light and fluffy on the surface, but in fact, has a desperately dark underbelly. Having escaped her past Adelle is working as a barmaid in an off the beaten track town when Phineas finds her. At first, he appears to be a fairground fortune teller until he tells Addie that he has been looking for her in the hope of finding clues to his missing sister. Human trafficking has been a scourge to humankind for centuries but in 1820 there was little recourse for victims of abduction and the perpetrators seemed immune to punishment. That is until Addie decides to take a stand and make her accusations despite the censure she knows she will receive. Whilst Phineas seems to be a lighthearted person, he feels deeply and his concern for Addie is palpable. The closing chapters of this well-written book are emotional and take the reader from despair to victory and leave one feeling satisfied that justice has been served.
