How many second chances do we get to fall in love?Mark Gregory had a major thing going for Carolina Hutchins years ago. But that was high school, she’d been four years older than him, and she hadn’t even known he was alive. At least that’s what he thought. Now he’s found her again. And this time he’s a game-winning running back with a Super Bowl ring and a hell of lot more to offer. Only problem, … more to offer. Only problem, she’s on the rebound from a bad divorce and thinks all men are like her ex-husband.
Can he convince this gorgeous woman to take a second chance with him? Or, despite the attraction that flares between them, is letting a new man into her life simply not in the game?

Wow what a wonderful stoey. Short and sweet and to the point. Never underestimate what friendship and live can do to a person who has big issues of it. Carolina and mark prove that fact in this story. I highly recommend it and I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader’s Copy.
Jasmine Haynes has done it again. Even within the page span of a novella she ably carries the reader inside the hearts and minds of her two leads. Carolina has been broken by giving herself to a man who was not worthy of her and longs for one taste of a remembered crush hoping it will give her a single spark to carry her through her lonely days; Mark has a successful career but no lasting satisfaction and is haunted by the memory of a girl he once knew and wanted to know better. Fortunately for them and the reader, both get a hint of what they deserve in the most delectable meet-cute bachelor party/ girl in a cake ever. As always with Haynes, their steamy, toe-curling meeting leads to deeper feelings and a believably difficult yet realistic reunion that ends with all parties involved (the reader included) feeling a very real cathartic relief. With Haynes the reader can always be assured the personalities are unique and refreshing, the conflict moving and meaningful, and the ending memorable and satisfying. For a quick but worthwhile read, pick up Not in the Game and get in the game! This honest review was written in exchange for an ARC of the novel.
Enjoy this super hot short story; perfect for a night in with glass of wine and a fire. Maybe you should skip the fire, the chemistry between Mark & Carolina will have you turning on the A/C
I enjoyed this romance between a 38 year old woman and a 34 year old guy who meet again under sexy and humorous circumstances. I really liked that she is in her 30s and has a backstory that led to her not being where she would like to have been with her life and career. He has achieved more than even could have be hoped for. The set up was fun and played out well. I really liked that she initiated their meeting in a fun, sexy way. The sexy scene was hot and not quite what I expected. Then it was up to him to convince her that they could take it to the next level.
This is definitely a romance that I would have liked to have more of. The fact that he was super successful, but she had not achieved to her potential could lead to some interesting interactions between them. Where could this go with his fans, how her life would change, and her ex… This felt like a terrific teaser.
Note: this is a re-release of a novella from 2014. I received a copy for review.
WOW! Another great HOT romantic read from Ms. Skully (aka Ms. Haynes). This was a delightful and fun read about a woman who decides to take a chance and add some excitement to her life after a painful divorce. Carolina Hutchins’ husband not only left her for a younger woman, but due to a prenup she is starting her life over again. Mark Gregory, now a famous NFL player, was a sixteen-year old teen when she was twenty. Carolina learns that Mark is sponsoring a bachelor party for one of his team and persuades her friend Deidre to let her be the one that jumps out of the cake. Will he remember her? He not only remembers her, but spent his teen years fantasizing about the “older woman” from his high school years. Now he will get his second chance to make his dreams come true. Can he prove to Carolina that he is seriously interested in her and not just a temporary fling? I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
I am very fond of this story. I think both of them deserved their “second chance.” I like the maturity of the characters, their steaminess and that he is very…..determined. I just wish it was a little longer…because I didn’t want it to end. 🙂 I am voluntarily reviewing a free copy.
