“Not By Sight gripped me from the first page. It was well written, heartwarming, and evocative-everything I’ve come to expect from novel by Kay Lyons Stockham.”

Can you love someone and still be free?
Emma Wyatt agrees to tutor a recently blinded, embittered soldier because of the $50,000 paycheck his brother offers. The … $50,000 paycheck his brother offers. The job is an answer to many prayers. Blind herself, Emma dreams of independence and freedom away from her overprotective family. Tutoring Ian in all things “blind” isn’t easy, especially when the biggest challenge is helping him walk by faith.
Protect someone you cannot see?
Good soldiers show no weakness. Ian MacGregor holds his battle with claustrophobia close to his chest, unsuccessfully trying to cope on his own, too angry with God to seek comfort. Ian knows duty, honor, serving his country. So why is he being punished with this very personalized hell?
As Ian struggles to strong-arm his phobia and let go of his anger, his growing feelings for Emma are overshadowed by the danger lurking around them. Emma would be better off with someone else. Someone sighted.
Someone able to protect her from the person determined to keep them apart…

I loved this book. Particularly in the time when we tend to concentrate on things we can’t do, it challenges your way of thinking. Also it is sweet and funny.
I really enjoyed reading this book, so much so that I had to share every detail with my husband. It had mystery, romance, and the perfectly imperfect life all wrapped in one fun read. It finished things off well, but left you wanting more. Good thing it is a series!
This book surprised me. It was even better than I expected. The emotions I expected and yes they were definitely there. The challenges for being blind is so well portrayed and even presented some coping skills that haven’t been mentioned before.
Both Ian and Emma have depth as the main characters facing some hard challenges. I liked that Emma has worked through so many challenges after being blind for so long. And she has multiple things that she is actively doing. Can you imagine how tough being a waitress is as a blind person? I also enjoyed her work with and caring for the dogs.
Ian is ANGRY, scared, confused and having no hope for his future. He went from a topnotch, highly skilled warrior who was a protector and a rescuer to feeling totally helpless. And he acts that way (helpless) for quite a while. Until Emma arrives on scene and puts an end to others waiting on him.
The secondary people were excellent. That included family and friends on both sides of the main characters. Emma’s best friends were a tight group of women affectionately called The Besties.
This book has surprises especially as it comes to the later chapters. Surprises, I like surprises. Well, in books anyway.
And that threat that was mentioned in the book blurb? I kept yelling, ” Check out_____. That person is dangerous” “Why can’t you see it?” No one heard me though being book characters and all. But Ta Da, I was right and it all comes out in a dramatic way. Perfect.
The ending was good with a H.E.A. for the M.C.’s that is unique to them.
I wouldn’t mind one bit reading more stories about Emma’s Besties and their romances.
I really enjoyed the story, and then immediately bought another in the series! Excellent writer.
Interesting read. Characters are blind and then learn to live everyday life.
Where to start…? Not by Sight isn’t an easy book to categorize. It appears on the surface to be a sweet, inspirational “potential” romance. But the tragedy pulls you into a mystery forming right under your nose. Toward the end, both romance and mystery come together seemlessly and become an excellent and satisfying novel. I highly recommend this book to readers who like an emotionally charged story with a sweet side of romance and a sprinkling of danger.
She is blind after a car accident when she was a teen and her mom was killed. As an adult she overcame her disability, worked with dogs and in her fathers diner. She had a close knit group of friends who helped her a lot. He was a Seal who helped in a kidnapping rescue with his brothers company. He freed the girl but got shot and lost his vision. His brother hires her to tutor him in survival. A very good story.
I don’t recall this being marked a Christian romance but it REALLY is. Decent story and characters but I had to give up on it as the story disappeared in favor of preaching.
Loved this book! Wonderfully genuine and true to how those with a) any handicap b) those who are blind handle the difference stages of the condition, especially if the were no born with it. The error of events that happen not only the Emma and Ian the two main characters but Emma’s bestie friends is crazy. But the mystery surrounding them and who is causing them for sure is baffling.
Emma is a waitress, a teacher for Paws at the college, and saving for one day to open her own kennel which she does part time now. She lost her sight fourteen-years-ago in an accident when she lost her mom at the time she was fourteen. So, when Duncan , Ian’s brother can to Emma’s uncle who is a dr. As to who could help Ian with his new blindness during removal of a bullet during surgery.
But Dr. has cancer and can’t work with Ian. But when he asked to meet at the diner there was a reason. He wants him to see Emma in action. He was recommended her for Ian. After watching her he didn’t understand why. But then Dr. finally says she’s blind. Then, Duncan could help stare out of shear amazement. She pulls it off with great ease and efficiently. The test is would Ian accept her. But when her home burns down he has no choice. A win for Duncan.
It is action packed it is filled with something happening at all times you learn a lot about blindness which was interesting.
The bestie Monica, Tasha, and Jolie are the great friends as are Quinn and Owen the the two brothers. The is a clean Christian based book. It has a HEA.
Loved the characters they had good chemistry and learned they can’t live without each other.
Isn’t this the exact, down to the names, plot of Blind Mans Bluff…?
An Interesting read about two sightless individual and the difficulties that they must deal with each day. Enjoyed the character in this story as their lives intertwine, showing their hurts and emotions. A story of love and faith.
I felt like we only scratched the surface of the characters and the storyline. I didn’t see the twist coming. But that’s because of the superficial character development. It does have a HEA though.
Not believable. Woman suddenly regains her sight because she falls. Blind man she is teaching to deal with blindness has to deal with it. Come on!
This is a beautifully written story featuring two blind protagonists. I loved how genuine both the hero and the heroine seemed, and I was so intrigued by how each dealt with his and her relatively new blindness. I learned a lot from the author’s sensitive insights and I have a new respect for those who navigate this challenging world without sight. Well done, Kay Lyons.
I loved this story. I enjoyed the camaraderie between characters, and the surprise of the female lead.
Loved this book…
Great book
WOW. Just WOW.
This is a page turner. I couldn’t put down until reaching the end… I absolutely loved this, everything so real but in a lovable way when one witness the struggles we can relate to but while being able to recognize all the possibilities that human beings are and have.
Thank you Kay for creating the people I want to meet, help and enjoy and stories I feel honored, and humbled, to witness!
Loved it!!
