From the bestselling author of the Kavanagh Legends MMA series, Sarah Robinson’s Not A Hero is an emotional standalone military romance where love battles trauma, and there can only be one victor.Former Marine, Miles Kydd, is trying to readjust to civilian life after ending his career and returning to his small home town when he learned his father was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Once the … Once the town hero and star quarterback, Miles no longer feels like the man he was, or who he’s expected to be—possibly because his demons have followed him home from Afghanistan.
Meeting Zoe Brooke, his father’s live-in nurse, gives Miles the slightest glimmer of hope that he can still find happiness despite the dark secrets he holds inside. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and together they are explosive—in more ways than one.
A helper at her core, Zoe is more than willing to care for Miles’s heart, but not at the expense of her own, and she’s not afraid to tell him that. She knows what having a painful past is like, and she wants to help him with his, if he’ll let her.
Things get complicated fast when Miles realizes burying his secrets isn’t actually the same as healing from them and if he wants the girl, he’s going to have to tell her the truth—the one thing he can’t do.
This book is suggested for 18+ years of age, contains graphic content, sensitive subject matters, and sexually explicit material.

Wounded hero and the woman with the strength to love him…
My heart is sighing happily right now. This author found the perfect mix of angst, love, steam and even humour in this romance that highlighted the wounds of war.
Miles was back after years away in the military. His father was dying. He had deep wounds no one could see. It seemed the universe heard his quiet plea for help because Zoe was going to be there for both of them…. Zoe was a caregiver, a nurturer. And there to look after his dad. With emotions running high in every quarter of his life it’s no wonder he found Zoe to be a calming influence. What they both didn’t see coming was the chemistry and love that would explode between them…
A great writing style that made me feel each strong emotion, there was a lot to love about this story. Steam galore and humour (especially from Miles’ comrade/friend Tobin) made for a sizzling, heart happy romance. I wouldn’t mind one little bit if Tobin found his love in a future book as well. Another excuse to check back in on Zoe and Miles (those delightful epilogues simply weren’t enough)…
*I happily reviewed this story
**Thank you to NetGalley
This is a good story with great characters. Conner Goff did a good job with the narration.
I really enjoyed this military romance! It pulled me in from the beginning, and held my interest until the very end.
Miles is a broken, yet sexy AF Marine, heading back home to spend time with his sick father. Unbeknownst to him, his father has a live-in nurse named Zoe. Who happens to be someone he went to high school with, but doesn’t really remember since she was two years behind him. Not only is she a thoughtful and caring nurse, she’s also intriguing and a little bit sassy and downright beautiful.
Zoe and Miles connected right away. I loved the time they spent getting to know each other. It was sweet and adorable. And knowing how badly Miles wished to be the perfect man for her, it made me swoon quite often.
This story had many emotional scenes that pulled at my heart-strings. My heart ached at the pain Miles felt, from the horrible memories of what he did. He just can’t forgive himself. So there’s no way he can accept the title of “Town Hero” and feel good about it. And it’s impossible to let himself get involved with someone as pure and good and sweet as Zoe. How would she be able to love someone like him, knowing what he’s done.
The author did a great job of giving me all the feels in this emotion-packed story. I’m definitely a fan of her writing style. This was my first read by this author and I can’t wait to read more.
Oh Not a Hero broke my heart. Miles is such an amazingly good guy, who can’t think of himself as a hero because of things he did in war. Zoe has been to hell and back in her own way as well but is healing slowly. I loved both of these characters so hard. Absolutely wonderful side characters too and would love to learn their stories too. Sarah made me laugh, love and ugly cry. Can’t wait to grab some more books by this author.
good deep character development……in other words they had flaws but found them to be very likable….liked this book!
This is an emotional, raw and steamy story about facing your fears and getting a second chance at life. Miles returns home from serving in the military broken, only to learn his father is dying. Zoe, is an old classmate of his, and is his fathers live-in nurse. She is so kind, and compassionate, a true caregiver to her very core. As they get reacquainted, their attraction and chemistry is hard to deny. The small town where they live wants to celebrate his service to the country, but Miles has secrets and guilt that eats away at him and he doesn’t feel like a hero or worthy of anyone, especially Zoe. Zoe has her own past trauma that makes her able to understand Miles more than he knows, but doesn’t know if she’s strong enough to endure the pain of his rejection. This story is a roller-coaster of emotions that is so riveting, and breathtaking. Narrator Conner Goff did a good job bringing this story to life. He easily portrayed all the complex emotions from sadness, anger, and jealousy, to happiness, joy and passion, beautifully. I was a bit distracted by several production errors unfortunately. But despite that, I really enjoyed this story about survival, redemption, and finding true happiness and love.
My feels…..dayum! This book was emotional and sexy and just all around awesome. I have such a weakness for Military men. I just don’t know what it is about them that drive me crazy. Maybe it’s that they are strong, brave, protective, but still human. That blend of strength and vulnerability just melts my panties. Whatever it is, any time I get my hands on a Military romance I just devour it. That’s what I did with Not a Hero. I started it and I couldn’t put it down.
Miles was so lickably yummy. He was everything I love in a hero. The things he seen and did while being a Marine hurt him and left him scarred. He had such guilt. I wanted so badly to make it all better for him. And yes I know he isn’t real but he felt real. Sarah Robinson did a great job of bringing her characters to life. Miles, Zoe, Tobin, and Miles’s dad Walter felt so real. Zoe was great. She was strong, loving, forgiving, and just so caring. I love that she could see past the hurt she was feeling over Miles when he lashed out at her, forgiving him, but never being a doormat. She knew he needed to want help and change. She didn’t try to fix him. She had a dignity to her. She was a great match for Miles
Miles and Zoe had a bumpy road but their love was worth the fight. Miles had serious PTSD and he was trying to deal with it on his own. There is some push/pull and at times I was frustrated with Miles pushing Zoe away and feeling like he wasn’t good enough, but in the same breath I could totally understand it. I just hated him in pain. The passion that was between Zoe and Miles was flaming. They couldn’t keep their hands to themselves. Their love was emotional journey with a beautiful ending and I was so glad I took it. This book made me smile, swoon and cry. I would love to see Tobin get his own book. I’m not ready to be done with these characters.
This “Bad Boy” Makes a GOOD READ…
Any time the words “bad boy” appear in a title I’m automatically wary and ready myself to have every tall, dark, handsome and emotionally unavailable cliche thrown at me. The fact that Robinson does this, in spades and I STILL enjoyed it is a testament to how well she handles the necessary details of character development/motivations, supporting characters, place/location/atmospheric details and the ever crucial art of dialogue and inner monologue. Knowing where this ride is taking us does not stop us one bit from enjoying the trip that Robinson takes us on with great ease and charm. This is my first Robinson read and most definitely not my last!
Loved it!
Can a nurse heal a broken marine
Sarah Robinson does it a again a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
A beautifully written story about former Miles and the trauma he must over come to return to a normal life as a civilian. To add to the turmoil his father is dying of cancer. The only one bright light is Walter’s nurse Zoe. The pair have an instant connect but is it strong enough to pull Miles through the darkness to the light.
It’s a must read book and I can’t wait to see what Sarah rights next
