The last thing Hope Hallows wants is to become the latest headline. Living in a town that likes secrets, she prefers to keep hers hidden. Avoiding a nosy reporter’s questions about her ability to infuse euphoria or despair with a single touch, and those who crave this bliss, is nothing new. But having her brother’s annoying girlfriend, Berta, go missing is–especially when it makes Hope suspect … suspect number one. As a triplet, her resemblance to her beloved dead sister causes her family to grieve even more, and her escalating supernatural skills makes Griffith, her half-human-half-Oppressor boyfriend, wary. He wants to put his unsavory past behind him–this could include Hope–since her abilities remind him of the Underworld. In her desperate search to find Berta, she stumbles across a tunnel. Phantom voices within whisper that evil has been waiting for a new leader–and isn’t she lucky, they’ve chosen Hope.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Okay first up read book 1 first…lol I know it’s not normally something I do skip a book in a series but this was part of a reading challenge list so I dived right in and omg it was so worth it, but I would have loved it even more if I’d read book 1 first.
Hope is an amazing character, Griffin is well he’s a guy so a bit confused…lol but nice to look at 🙂
The supernatural is always entertaining for me and Not a Chance was a really great read I especially loved the link to Greek Mythology.
I would definitely read more from this author.
This is a wonderful read full of mystery. It’s well written and the characters actions fit their roll in the book. It more of a light romance and more of a how and what’s going to happen book.
this was a really great book! she doesnt want the world to know of her powers. than her brothers girlfriend goes missing. now her and her boyfriend must find her before its to late.
The second book in the series ( and I strongly recommend reading the first one before this to eliminate any confusion) takes Hope on her continued trek to discover who she is, what she can do, and whether she can channel her good side when the evil side seems so much easier to access. She’s irreverent yet insecure as to her place in things. It’s fun to watch her evolve. There’s also enough hair-raising scenes to make this a good read.
I don’t normally read paranormal, but this book was recommended to me and ended up being a fun read. I love well-defined characters and boy does this one have characters. Hope kind of embodies a mortal’s problem which is when to give hope and when to drain the life out of someone. We sort of all have that ability, although she can do it literally. Her boyfriend is yum. And there is Berta who we’d all want to tamp down. There’s demons and half-demons and all sorts of trouble in the town with no name. I can’t say I’d want to live there, but it sure was fun to visit. Steep yourself in an imaginary world and enjoy.
Not A Chance, Book 2 of The Enchantlings series has all the necessary elements of a fun and satisfying read. I loved the quirky, totally implausible yet completely believable characters, and thoroughly enjoyed their incredible journey through a true fantasy world that came across as so very, very real. Redemption at its finest, and a book I highly recommend.
Once again, we are in the little town with no name, which is either your idea of home or a crossroads to hell. A cast of demons and demi-demons roams the highways and byways. Once in a while, a human makes the mistake of stopping at the local bar, Last Call, and stirs up trouble.
Hope works at this bar/dive and has made the town with no name her real home, at last. She has a family: the memories of Destiny, her twin, deceased Aunt Tessa, who appears in mirrors, Aunt Ruthie, the bakery chef, and her brother, Chance. He has an annoyingly cute-as-a-button, well-endowed girlfriend, Berta, who drives Hope crazy with her bubbly behavior. Berta offers unrequested advice on how to bar tend and flirts with any male in a ten mile radius.
Hope’s hunk of a boyfriend has his own demons, but he always comes through for her. However, when a nosy reporter arrives in Last Call and begins stalking her, Hope is at the end of her rope. In a rage, she does what Griffith has told her not to do: use her powers to drain someone almost to the point of death. He takes the reporter out of her hands, literally, and tells her to think about who she wants to be. Hope is reflecting on this advice when the bubbly Berta disappears—and now she has to find her brother’s annoying girlfriend before she bubbles no more.
This is the second book in this enchanting Enchantlings series. This story can be read as a stand-alone, but why would you deny yourself the pleasure of the first book, Destiny Calling? Come for the snark, stay for the supernatural siblings and spirits. I give this book five magic mirrors and a warning: You may never want to leave the town with no name.
I love the unique paranormal element in this novel of a character with the ability to infuse people with euphoria or despair. Hope is a great protagonist, a little quirky and flawed, but also tough and admirable. The story is an intense page-turner with humor, magic and romance. What more could you want?
If you’re looking for an awesome paranormal book just in time for Halloween (or anytime), I highly recommend Not a Chance. Hope and Griffith lead a cast of colorful, fascinating characters. Bonatch weaves a captivating story with plenty of mystery, secrets, humor, and of course, special powers. I hope there are more books to come in this great series.
Great Sequel To Destiny Calling
Not A Chance continues the delightful story begun in Destiny Calling. Hope’s powers of agony or ecstasy continue and Griffith, her hot boyfriend hangs out with us again, but in this story, Bertha, Hope’s brother’s girlfriend disappears and Hope becomes suspect number one.
Reading book one in this series, Destiny Calling, definitely gives the reader an edge and helps with a solid background of the great characters, but I think the story could still stand on it’s own. Maureen Bonatch weaves a wonderful paranormal tale with all the elements I look for, humor, awesome powers, secrets, mystery, and creepy voices. I definitely recommend Not A Chance and rate it a 4.5!
Part of the series “The Enchantlings Series”. This book is a paranormal mystery that takes place in a unique town with some truly interesting characters who possess some special “gifts”. and their relationships (some romantic). This mystery involves a missing person and what happens. I found the characters and plot interesting in a weird but still in a good sort of way!
This is book two and while I have not had the chance to read book one, it was still enjoyable but I would have loved to have read them in order. It is a supernatural story with spunk and sparks. The character has a journey to undertake and I liked her attitude, strong and willing but still unsure. The author did a great job of incorporating mythology with her story and making it believable. The mystery is fun and keeps the readers turning the pages.
The characters were well thought out and I loved the emotion that was involved. The relationships were wonderful and I loved the outcome of the story. It might be a supernatural story but it is also a human one and there are lessons learned and love created. I do want more in another book to answer some questions and to spend more time in this world.
