Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be.
Charles Talent Manx has a gift of his own. He likes to take children for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the vanity plate NOS4A2. In the Wraith, he and his innocent guests can slip out of the everyday world and onto hidden roads that lead to an astonishing playground of amusements he calls Christmasland. The journey across the highway of Charlie’s twisted imagination transforms his precious passengers, leaving them as terrifying and unstoppable as their benefactor.
Then comes the day when Vic goes looking for trouble…and finds her way to Charlie. That was a lifetime ago. Now, the only kid ever to escape Charlie’s evil is all grown up and desperate to forget. But Charlie Manx hasn’t stopped thinking about Victoria McQueen. On the road again, he won’t slow down until he’s taken his revenge. He’s after something very special—something Vic can never replace.
As a life-and-death battle of wills builds, Vic McQueen prepares to destroy Charlie once and for all—or die trying.

Great book! You always seem to get a winner when you pick Mr. Hill!
Very many layered read. STEVEN King-esque. Like Christine meets IT
My book club choose to read this book which I am glad they did. It is outside my usual reading genres.
I think Joe Hill does an amazing job describing the story. You feel like you are involved in the story. However, for me it was hard with the multiple points of view. But like I said outside my comfort zone.
You must read the book until the very last page.
I would still highly recommend this book to my friends. Plus I am really excited to see that it was picked up to be a TV show. I can’t wait to see what they do with it.
This was the second novel I have read by Joe Hill. I now have a new favorite book. This was just beyond amazing! I was sucked in from page one. The one time I did not mind all the jumping around of timelines and characters it was just really easy to follow along and I loved how it all tied together in the end. This book is over six hundred pages long but simply did not feel like it. The suspense, the horror, the heartbreak it was all worth it. Seriously just give this a read you will not be disappointed.
If you haven’t yet read Joe Hill NOS4A2 is a good place to start. The icky villain, Mr Manx, certainly can haunt your dreams. The heroine ‘The Brat’ is brave and crazy and not perfect as any good heroine or hero should be. Hill’s writing is sharp, scary, imaginative and damn close to perfect.
He takes a warm fuzzy holiday like Christmas and makes it creepy as hell. So take a ride with Mr.Manx in his black Rolls Royce to Christmasland, really go ahead…they have cool games like ‘scissors-for-the-drifter…ho ho ho
I did not know this was written by Stephen King’s kid before I started. If anything that would have made me more eager to read it but more quick to put it down if I disliked it. The first half of the book, while slow, did a pretty good job of setting everything up with great detail. My real problem was there was little subtly. The author seemed to go out of his way to put in unnecessary graphic detail which did not add to the book at all. By the time I actually started disliking the book I was already at a point of no return.
I just can’t recommend this.
For me this novel was a bit drawn out. I think that it could have been shortened. However it is full of action, & it moves at a pretty fast pace.
It’s full of various themes that doesn’t preach, but he does give a nod to his parent’s writing.
very odd; spooky and weird.
Liked it, read it twice.
The horrors of family dysfunction lurk at the heart of Joe Hill’s tale of apparently unkillable menace-to-children Charlie Maggs, a monster in vintage Roll’s Royce with the power to navigate alternative realities. By turns disturbing and darkly funny, this book restored my flagging faith in the horror genre. Do yourself a favour and buy the audiobook version voiced by Kate Mulgrew, who does a chillingly brilliant Charlie.
Great read.
Fun, creepy story by joe hill.
I really wanted to like it. I like his writing style, but I just really didn’t like the main character so couldn’t bring myself to care what happened to her. I got about halfway through, realized I really didn’t like her, skipped to the end to find out how characters I did like fared, and called it good. I do want to read others he’s written though! Like the author – didn’t like the book.
Great story and great characters
Truely frightened love it
Such a good series. Kudos to the author.
I enjoyed this book because it wasn’t like anything I’ve ever read with a creepy villain and his sidekick who is equally creepy and deranged. The story is fast paced and original. If you enjoy reading super natural horror and haven’t read Joe Hill yet, I say you need to. I’ve enjoyed his books very much but NOS 4A2 stands out due to the disturbing villains and the whacked out things they do to their victims.
Creepy and Good!
hated this book
OK book but not a Stephen King!
