Being a princess doesn’t matter, Not if I don’t value all life. As my sister drags me out to another festivalContinuing her hunt for a husband,I find myself drawn to an injured stranger. Funny that I barely noticed anything besides his injury. Because once I really started to pay attention to himI started to see what other people saw. A gorgeous stranger with startling green eyesAnd a heart that … stranger with startling green eyes
And a heart that is as soft as my own.
But will it be a deal breaker when he finds out
I’m not fully human?
Author’s Note: This is a steamy stand alone intended for 18.+ All other books in the series are full length 30k word books.

Marcellus was on his way home to report disturbing news when injured. Princess Nina, so compassionate she could not see even a mouse hurt, drags Marcellus to the best doctor she knows. Both are more than they seem. Lisa Daniels has created an intriguing prequel that has me wanting to read more about the Northern Realm Royal Dragons.

Northern Realm Royal Dragons Prequel by Lisa Daniels is a cute and very short introduction to the Northern Realm of Royal Dragons series. You’ll find humans, shifters and shape-shifters.
A young human princess finds love and her magic abilities. A centuries old dragon prince finds love for the first time with a not quite human.
From my perspective, this prequel did not quite reach the author’s normal standards. I felt a few more chapters were need to fully set the main plot. I do look forward to finding out were this series goes. So 3.5 stars for the prequel.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Northern Realm Royal Dragons Prequel: Shifter Short Story by Lisa Daniels is a really short and quick read. I read this in about 20 minutes and wanted MORE! This quick introduction to the Northern Royal Dragons has us peeking in on Marcellus just as he is trying to make his way home and Princesses Nina and Paola on the brink of attending a festival. A really cute story that gives the lay of the land for the Northern Realms. I enjoyed the read, but honestly… I expected more on Nina, Marcellus and Paola… As a series opener, this really piques your interest! This is a clean read.
This honest and voluntary review was made possible by reading a copy through Booksprout.
Marcellus removed his jacket with difficulty due to the broken arm. A shifter stood near him and threatened him, but Marcellus had all but forgotten he was standing there! Several guys standing around the leader began to shift, and the leader smiled to see the look on Marcellus’ face until he asked why they did that to themselves when it looked so painful. The leader assumed Marcellus was human until he asked, “Is that what you thought?” He then figured Marcellus was a bear shifter – at which point some bear shifters came out of the woods to attack Marcellus – but all were wiped out by the white dragon who suddenly rose in front of them.
Princess Paola wants to go to the fair to find a husband for herself but she can’t go without her younger sister, Princess Nina, who is trying to save an injured mouse that ran into the closet. There is pressure now to find a husband since their father is getting old and only a man can take his place – and they are not fond of the man who would take over the kingdom! Nina, strongly believing she has to save all living creatures that need help, is overly kind and sweet. When Marcellus seeks them out at the fair to ask for directions because he is lost, Nina’s attention is drawn to his injured arm and she immediately pulls him forward by the hand into the woods to take him to the best doctor in the kingdom who can fix anything — Master Benson. Marcellus seemed to instantly know the man was a bear. Benson recognized him as Prince Aiden’s cousin when said he was Duke Marcellus. As they talked about shape shifters, Nina became confused, so Benson removed the barrier that had held Marcellus back and the three of them went for a cup of tea and an explanation.
Marcellus explained that shifters and shape shifters are decidedly different species. Shifters are born with the ability to shift. Shape shifters are humans with magical abilities who chose to use them to try to be like shifters and it is painful for them to transition. When Nina mentioned her mother had been part fairy, Marcellus touched her hand and drew a string of light between them. She played with it and created a mouse to run around her hand, thinking the light had come from him and wouldn’t believe she had done it. After another demonstration, however, she accepted that she had magic! And Marcellus agreed to stay and train her to use it. Both of them felt they had known each other forever. What would the future hold for them?
This is such a promising story! I am eager to read the rest of the books coming out in this series. Dragons are my favorite, and Nina is so perfect for Marcellus. Grab your copy and open yourself to a wonderful story line that will keep you entertained through each new book!

The author pulls you in immediately and does not let you go. Princess Nina is a kind and generous human that meets Marcellus at the fair. When she sees he is hurt, she immediately takes him to her friend in the woods, so he can be doctored.
