In this warmhearted and charming debut from Tif Marcelo, a food truck chef and her long lost Army love clash when they cross paths in San Francisco. Camille Marino has got a full plate. As the sole guardian of her eighteen-year-old sister and the head chef and owner of a food truck, she’s used to life being a juggling act. With food to cook, social media accounts to manage, and a little sister to … little sister to look after, she doesn’t have time for much else.
That is, until Drew Bautista walks back into her life.
Drew is Camille’s former high school crush and he returns to San Francisco to repair his relationship with his father before he ships out for deployment. By helping his father renovate his failing Filipino restaurant, he hopes to win back his respect. But when sparks fly between Drew and Camille–his father’s major competition and sworn enemy–Drew is conflicted. Should he join his father in the war against her food truck? Or surrender to the woman who’s given him a second chance at love?more
Camille and Drew get a second chance at love and it is adorable. While the romance is playing out, there are issues in their personal lives that are working against them. Due to an agreement by both parties to one party’s request of “no specifics”, things will get messy before they get righted. Entertainment and frustration will abound throughout but the ending will make you forget about most of the frustration.
Family is a strong theme and at least half of the book focused on the idea and ties of family. Food also played its role and I now have the urge to hit up some food trucks!
North to You made my heart ache and my stomach rumble in hunger lol. Camille and Drew’s second chance at love was so very sweet. I loved their dates across the city and reconnecting. I liked all the twists and turns that kept their full identities underwraps, but there came a point where I wanted to yell at them to just be honest and communicate with each other.
This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. I love food truck stories and really enjoyed the food snippets at the start of each chapter, some of which were hilarious!. Friends to lovers, mending fences with parents/family obligations, misunderstandings and this was a great read. the ending had a very sweet hea.
Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5
My first book by Tif Marcelo!
I listened to this book as part of a reading challenge group read and I enjoyed it very much. It has just what I look for in a good romance: friends-to-lovers, second chance, a bit of drama and a great HEA and epilogue.
Food truck romances seem to be pretty popular lately (or maybe I just never noticed them until recently?) and this is a good one. What I liked about this story is that the main couple crushed on each other in high but never had a chance to really explore it. Fate intervenes and they meet each other again out of the blue.
Fate may have wanted them back together but other circumstances kept popping up to keep them apart. The blurb is really good so I’m just going to say that this is a great story and I liked the creative way things all worked out in the end (the epilogue is great).
As for the audio performance I really enjoyed listening to this. Both Gomez Pugh and Lola James have great, easy-to-listen-to voices. I plan to listen to the remaining books in this series.
Equal parts delicious and heartwarming – this book left me with a huge smile on my face!
Food Trucks are the latest craze everywhere but not all are open to this new craze. Especially the owner of a Filipino struggling restaurant. Drew is ready to ship out for deployment but comes back to try and create peace with his father. The best way to do that is to help with the family’s struggling restaurant. When a new food truck in the area is being blamed for the restaurant’s struggles, Drew steps in to help remove the threat only to realize it is owned by his former high school love. How can he get a second chance at a better relationship with his father and get a second chance with the girl who got away from him. Can the two worlds blend or will he have to choose? The second chance romance will have you falling in love with hometowns and families that all have their problems.
