Another unique and wonderful love story from Katy Regnery that had emotion and heart, and left me truly believing in happy ever afters.
This is the second story in the Odds Are Good series and I’m really enjoying how the author has put together stories with some unusual aspects. The settings, circumstances, and characters all have a uniqueness about them that are woven into a story that delivers an emotional punch without being too angsty, something that I really enjoy.
Both Cody and Juliet were written so well. The initial concerns that Cody had about Juliet learning about his disability and seeing how that all played out set the stage for me with these two. The emotion behind Cody’s vulnerability and then Juliet’s acceptance could easily be felt in the words on the page. I also loved the fact that these two just sort of fell into their relationship and just went with where their feelings took them. I’m not a big fan of a lot of angst, and I loved these two even more as they worked through understanding their emotions and then trying to figure out what that meant long term.
As I already mentioned, I am truly loving the uniqueness of the stories in this series. It was clear that Katy Regnery did her homework when it came to Alaska as well as all the aspect surrounding the sled dogs and the sport itself, and I loved watching Cody and Juliet’s relationship build from their mutual respect of the dogs, and then a respect for the sport as they trained and competed.
There weren’t many supporting characters, but the ones that were in the book added so much to the story. I just loved Jonas and Rita and how protective and supportive they were of Cody. Juliet’s family was great and I loved how welcoming they were to Cody. Juliet’s friend Silvi I could have done without – even though she was the one to show Juliet the ad in the paper I was not happy with most of her advice, especially at the end! And don’t even get me started on Glenn…
This was another great story from Katie Regnery that was easy to read but also packed an emotional punch. I would definitely recommend checking this one out.
I received an advance reader copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I honestly didn’t think I would need a tissue for this book, and I was right because I ended up needing more than one! I’ve loved many of my Katy Regnery reads, but there’s something–no, make that several somethings–that’s made Nome-o Seeks Juliet have such a major impact on me. A lot of it has to do with a recent life-changing event I’m still trying to wrap my head and, most especially, my heart around, but I don’t want to go into it here because it may be considered spoilery if I mention how what happened in my life connects to the novel. Suffice it to say that I shed a lot of tears but it also gave me new insight on what I was going through and certain feelings of guilt that I’ve been struggling with. So yes, this book hit me in ways I never expected, and that’s just part of why it’s now become not only my favorite read from this author but one of my all-time top reads in all my decades of reading romance.
I don’t think I could have loved this story and these characters anymore than I already do. Cody was different from the self-confident boy he was before he entered the military to the man who came back with disfigured hands after he’d left the service. My heart went out to him because even though he had a couple of close friends and his beloved dogs, he was leading a very lonely life. Then along came his Juliet… Gah! She was dedicated to whatever and whomever she put her heart in, and that included mushing in general and Cody and all the dogs in particular. One of the best surprises that this book gave me was the direction that the author took the story in. I found myself smiling each and every time Katy Regnery would take the story and characters down a road I didn’t expect. This book touched my heart and made me contemplate my own situation, but whether we share the same circumstances or not, I feel you’ll fall in love with Nome-o Seeks Juliet as much as I did. This receives five-plus stars.
Nome – O Seeks Juliet by Katy Regnery reminds me of the very reason I fell in love with Katy Regnery’s writing. Katy has the ability to deliver a character driven, emotionally touching romance that keeps the readers absorbed until the very end.
Juliet Sanderson is finishing up her final year in Veternary College when she loses her study candidate for her thesis project on the care and training of sled dogs in the competitive sled racing sport. Rather than throw the towel in, her roommate finds her a new candidate in the classifieds of a popular Alaskan magazine, The Odds Are Good. While she’s desperate for a new study subject, she’s not willing to follow up in the classifieds until she catches her boyfriend, who is also her advisor, mentor, and professor having sex with another student. His callous attitude about their no strings attached relationship and professional advisories propels her to answer the add for a musher partner in Nome, Alaska.
Cody Garrison needs a female race partner for the Qimmiq 200 race in order to qualify for the famous Iditarod Dog Sled race. He’s desperate enough to advertise in a magazine and is willing to train her in a short amount of time. He’s shocked when a young twenty four year old woman answers his ad and is willing to put in the work and never once mentions romance, relationships, or sex. Her name is Juliet. How can he ignore the signs?
Juliet is the first woman / person to see Cody beyond his scarring and injuries he has had since his service in Afghanistan. He’s learned to live with his disabilities and secluded himself from most people. His passion for his dogs and racing are all the fulfillment he needs until he meets his new racing partner. Life is taking on a different quest.
Juliet and Cody find that once in a lifetime love but their lives are on two separate paths. Being together forever may not be in their stars unless they are willing to give up their dreams they have worked so hard for. Just when they think they have it figured out, the world once again interrupts their journey.
I was immediately drawn into Nome-O Seeks Juliet and fell hopelessly in love with Cody. I admired Juliet’s strength, tenacity, and ability to love unconditionally. I loved learning about dog sled racing and intimately meeting their dog sled teams. Katy tapped into her magical word pool and found a way to deliver the kind of emotional story she’s known for.
I highly recommend reading Nome-O Seeks Juliet by Katy Regnery!
Wow…what a story! I have read quite a few Katy Regnery books and they are all unique and I loved many of them but I can honestly say that Nome-o Seeks Juliet is now at the top of my list! The depth of the story between Cody and Juliet was wonderful to read and really made my heart melt for the two of them. As you can see from the blurb, Cody is a 34 year old honorably discharged vet living in Nome, Alaska and is looking for a female dog sledding partner to train and participate in an upcoming race. He places an add in the Odds are Goods magazine looking for the right person. Juliet is a 24 year old veterinary student in Minnesota that was planning a research project around dog sledding and when her subject fell through her roommate comes across this ad. Fate? Possibly and for these two it is a moment that will enrich both of their lives. I don’t want to give away too much of their story because it truly was a joy to read about both of these characters finding love when they least expected it and making it work. I will say the this is a complete standalone and it is not necessary to read the first Odds Are Good book, Single in Sitka. That was a good story as well but has no bearing on Nome-o Seeks Juliet. It is told from dual POV and it will bring tears to your eyes and fill your heart with the belief in unconditional love! It was definitely one of my favorite books of 2019!
Nome-o Seeks Juliet is a journey you don’t want to miss! This wonderful tale of taking chances, both on love and in life, will have you cheering. Filled with awkward moments that will pull at your heart strings, and characters that you’ll fall in love with. I guarantee you won’t want to put this book down. Plenty of steamy romance, laughter and tears makes this my new favorite in the Odds-Are-Good series. I always know that if Katy Regnery is the author, I’ll be able to dive right into the story, only to be sad that it’s over too soon, and counting the days until the next book releases.
***** 4.5 stars *****
Katy Regnery has written the a beautiful story for Juliet and Cody. These two kind and passionate characters are perfectly made for each other. Their love for dogs is the cherry that tops off this delicious sundae.
I loved being introduced to Alaska and and the sport of dog sled racing in such a unique way. Katy Regnery has made both subjects attractive and intriguing by adding an excellently written love story.
I laughed. I cried. I got angry. I cheered. I blushed. Nome-O Seeks Juliet made me outright swoon with its sweet heat. Katy Regnery is simply a master storyteller.
Juliet and Cody’s book Nome-o Seeks Juliet gave me all the feels! When a book can make you ugly cry, swoon falling in love with characters and laugh it’s perfect to me. Wasn’t sure how Katy was going to top the first book in the series but she definitely did somehow. I can’t wait for book 3!!!
I love love stories about veterans. They tend to be a little broken and in need of someone to honor and respect the changes they’ve been through. They are strong and grateful for what they have. The wanted ad/personal ad is a fun idea. I also like that there was a similarity in locations with the Alaska/Minnesota/Montana locations. The fact that both characters loved dogs, and that each dog was not only named but whose personality was described made it like I was there with them. I like that this started out fairly slow burn. They were partners first and while their romantic relationship started on a whim, they took the phrase “savor every moment” to heart, especially knowing there was a limited time together. I’m really enjoying this series.
Wow!!!!! What an amazing 6 star story that sucked me in and didn’t let me go until the very last page read. I was enthralled and mesmerized by these amazing characters.
Cody needs help with a dog race up in Alaska. He puts in an add in a magazine looking for a female that could race. Juliet needs a race dog owner to finish a project for her college degree as a veterinarian. Things are about to get very interesting.
What stands this story apart from others, are the characters. They made me feel so much for them. Cody is an army veteran who came back with some deep issues. Juliet will help him realize he has so much to offer despite he thinks he’s not worthy. A storyline that was originally told and flowed well.
It’s an highly addicting and captivating story that had me shedding a few tears along the way. I’m not a dog person but, the author had me falling in love with them. Once I started this story, I couldn’t seem to be able to put it down. A solid page turning experience that I will be recommending.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story. I can’t wait for more of Katy’s stories.
OMG. Even as I sit here writing my review, tears are running down my face. You broke my heart, Ms Regnery, but you did it in such a way that I will recover. Yes, it is a HEA, but there are two scenes that just tore me apart. Maybe I’m more sensitive being a husky owner and dealing with the same issues as the scenes entail, but lordy my heart was breaking and tears were flowing.
Cody is such a wonderful man. He is a very sensitive soul, but who wouldn’t be given what he has lived through. He just needs to find the one woman who will accept him for who he is no matter what. Enter Juliet. This was meant to be a means to an end, but it becomes so much more. And how could it not. They spend 24/7 together living, training, taking care of the dogs. Their falling in love was destined.
This was such an emotional read for me. I truly loved this story. It will resonate with most readers and you will fall in love with Cody, with Juliet and with the dogs. God bless Viola.
NOME-O SEEKS JULIET is one of those books that captures you from the first page and doesn’t let you go until the last one.
It is the story of Juliet Sanderson and Cody Garrison and how a classified ad brought them together to serve two important needs in their lives. Juliet, a veterinary student has a project to complete on the treatment and care of sled dogs. Her original plans fall through and her hopes are dashed in completing her study and to graduate. Cody, a retired and disabled U.S. Marine wants to enter an upcoming co-ed race, The Qimmiq 200, but needs a female teammate. It is after Cody posts the ad and Juliet responds that their story unfolds.
When Juliet arrives in Nome and meets Cody, you can feel the chemistry between them, but will they give into it? After all, they are working together as teammates and it is only a temporary situation. All I can say is that by the time the Qimmiq 200 arrives, my heart was bursting for Juliet and Cody to come out on top!
NOME-O had an interesting storyline, well developed and likeable characters plus a villian, it was funny, romantic, angsty, there’s a sexy hero who looks like Brad Pitt! and hot bedroom scenes to warm up any Alaskan night!
I highly recommend NOME-O SEEKS JULIET! 5 stars!
So this is my first book in this series and I have to say I LOVED every minute of reading this story. (As I type and buy Single in Sitka at the same time… it is a book lover’s talent!)
So we have our Hero, Cody, placing an ad in the infamous “Odds Are Good” magazine for a female partner to run a dog sled race. Cody is a veteran living alone in Alaska and is a little broken, but he has a goal to race The Qimmiq in order to qualify for the Iditarod.
Well along comes Veterinarian college student Juliet, who after losing the subject for her Fellowship, is in need of a new study subject. With a little, no make that a lot of needling from her roommate, she decides to take a chance on Cody and heads to Alaska.
There is so much going on in this book and I loved it so much. The sweet slow-building romance and the possibility of what they could have. Their pasts are vastly different but the acceptance Cody finds in Juliet is so heartwarming and heartbreaking to read. He is broken both physically and mentally but Juliet makes him see he can have and deserves so much more! And the dogs, argh… so cool! This book is very emotional and I would have some wine handy when you read it.
Must read of 2019!
“I’m all over the place,” she says, her eyes glassy and confused.
“I’m not.” I’m right here with you, and it’s the only place in the universe I want to be.
Her lips twitch for a second, then tilt up. “Then you anchor us, Cody, okay?
Us.
The setting may be in cold Nome, Alaska, but make no mistake, my fellow romance book loving friends. The pages heat up like the tropics in this very steamy at times, heart melting romantic read.
Cody couldn’t have been more of a lonely, good guy type hero who truly deserves the love of a strong, compassionate leading lady. This guy’s sad past history broke my heart, folks. My admiration for his sweet soul pieced it back together. I loved how he fell for Juliet and vice versa. He felt lucky to have her in his life, but, honestly, I think she was the one who struck gold when she met him.
Juliet had a lot of good qualities, but her previous, brief affair with a minor sub-character tarnished her judgement/image in my eyes. I wish it had been scripted she had only thought of him romantically. Her timing of sending Cody an email that broke his heart was also very unfortunate. A fact I don’t think was ever pointed out to her. Poor Cody felt like he was being kicked while he was down, folks.
The details and atmosphere of this particular sport felt very authentic. Not that I know anything about this type of racing. The author did a great job though of making me feel like I was right in the thick of things with them. Overall, this was a very enjoyable, heart felt, emotional, romantic read.
Title: Nome-O Seeks Juliet, Series: Odds Are Good (Book 2), Author: Katy Regnery, Pages: 205, stand-alone but part of a series, good guy/former military hero, future vet heroine, very steamy at times, hero I loved, no OW drama, no love triangle, former lover tries to cause problems, authentic details regarding dog sledding.
Book 1 – Single in Sitka
Book 2 – Nome-O Seeks Juliet
Book 3 – A Fairbanks Affair
(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher/PR firm.)
This book was a lovely read! When her case study falls through Juliet is desperate to find another musher to study for her veterinary school project. Finding a Nome-O Seeks Juliet ad for a mushing partner seems to to good to be true. Cody Garrison is retired U.S. Marine struggling to find his place with his only goal now to race in the iditarod. But he must first place in the co-ed Qimmiq 200 race. Placing the add for a female partner seems like a long shot until Juliet answers. Keeping secrets and living in close quarters finds unexpected Cody and Juliet fighting feelings they that caught them both by surprise. A sweet, sexy read that is sure to be anyone’s favorite. I loved the characters, the writing and the HEA in the story. I can’t wait to read more in the series.
I loved this book so much!! Juliet was so strong & sassy, and then there’s Cody…he’s the perfect hero! Each scene with them was so full of chemistry and heat! Once I started reading I didn’t want to put the book down! I’m obsessed with this series! I can’t wait for the next one!
I love this series. The stories are standalone connected by a magazine called Odds Are Good with classifieds and singles ads.
Cody, a veteran living a very solitary life in Nome, Alaska, placed an ad looking for a partner for a coed dog sled race. “NOME-O SEEKS JULIET” and Juliet replies.
“This is crazy,” I tell her. She wipes away her tears, nodding at me with a blossoming smile. “Yes. It’s crazy. Be crazy with me.”
I loved everything about this book. The sexy, sweet romance, the main characters and the stories of their past, the cute ad that brought them together, and the awesome dogs! But I was completely taken by surprise by my emotional reactions to the story. One minute I’m swooning over sweet romance and the next I’m over here bawling on my book!
“One minute I was whole, the next…I wasn’t. The me I knew was…gone.”
“Not gone,” I whisper. “Just…broken.”
Nome-O Seeks Juliet checked all the boxes for me. It gave me ‘all the feels’ and left me with a bit of a book hangover but a big smile on my face.
-5 Stars!-
Katy Regnery has delivered another beautiful must read story!
Nome-O Seeks Juliet is a sweet refreshing romance that I didn’t want to put down and throughly enjoyed.
A love of dogs and a chance to help each other is what brought Cody and Juliet together but understanding and acceptance is what sealed the deal to a relationship neither of them ever expected.
Wow. This is such an incredible story!!
I honestly don’t know what to say about this story except that you should read it!!!! Cody is a fantastic character, smart, caring, kind-hearted, wounded. I don’t know when I have felt more protective of a character. His scars are more than the physical ones he hesitates to show the world and he broke my heart so many times. Juliet surprised me at every turn. She took on every challenge thrown at her without backing down. Two unlikely lovers, 19 dogs and one chance to claim victory. Outstanding!!
Oh my heart! This unique love story will make you melt! The feelings I felt throughout this romance were so deep and intense! I love the inclusion and determination of the disabled vet and the strength and intelligence of Juliet. This is a very touching (but unlikely) pairing… one person feeling like it could be something short-term, and one feeling unworthy of love. I absolutely fell hard for this story and strongly recommend reading this!
When veterinarian student Juliet Sanderson answers an ad written by a musher living in Nome, Alaska she isn’t quite sure what to expect, but she is hopeful that she will be able to finish her study she has received her grant for.
“I’m glad you placed the ad.”
Retired and disabled US Marine, Cody Garrison, has resorted to the realization that no woman will want him with his injuries, but when he placed an ad for a female fellow musher, he wasn’t sure who take him up on the opportunity…especially upon seeing him.
“Please don’t let the day she arrives also be the day she decides to go.”
The other characters in this story are mostly in the background, but Juliet’s friend (Silvia), her professor Glenn Steinbuck…or Stein (insert rhyming word here), Cody’s friends (Rita and Jonas), and Juliet’s family…and of course, the dogs!
Nome-o Seeks Juliet is the second book in the “Odds Are Good” series, but can totally be read as a standalone. Author Katy Regnery has written another incredible romance story! 5 very impressed stars from me!
4.5+ stars
This book was more than I was expecting. It is a stand-alone story even though it is part of the Odds are Good series. It takes place in Alaska and centers around dog sledding which is something I have not read about before. It is obvious that the author researched this book well, and the whole experience just comes alive on the pages.
But the stand out in this book is the hero, Cody Garrison. He is retired from the military and lives an isolated existence in Nome, Alaska with his dogs. He has challenges that he fights daily to overcome, but he still has insecurities and has self-worth issues. He places an ad in the magazine since he needs a female partner to qualify for a race with him.
Juliet Sanderson is a veterinarian student and needs a new subject for her grant study. Answering the ad seems like her only choice on a short timeline and getting away from Montana is just what she needs. She is smart, sassy, strong, and determined. She needs Cody and this experience for her project, but finds she loves being there for the dogs, the adventure, and Cody himself.
They got off to an awkward start and never expected to be attracted to each other, have crazy chemistry, or catch feelings. Her acceptance of Cody gives him much needed hope. The way he treats her makes her believe that there really are good men out there. Soon things are heating up, but now their original short term arrangement is getting more complicated.
How do you find a way to be together when your future plans take you in completely different directions? That whole saying about “‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” is seeming like a crock in reality.
My heart broke for them as they found who they wanted to be with, but struggled to figure out how to make it work. I totally fell for Cody. He was self-conscious and had so many challenges and responsibilities. He was a bit uncomfortable at first, but had such a big, loving heart and just wanted to find someone to share it with…even though he was afraid to hope that would be possible. But he was also resilient, adaptable, and cared enough to be self-sacrificing. And Juliet was brave and not afraid to stand up for herself when needed. The side characters, even the dogs helped make this story feel real.
The scenery and experience make it a unique, tension-filled adventure, but the beautiful love story is the heart of it. It’s emotional, intense, steamy, sweet, and swoony. I loved getting both of their points of view. I felt every bit of loneliness, despair, hope, joy, wonder, and excitement. It is about acceptance, priorities, taking risks, and trying to find a way to sustain love in an impossible situation.
