Will the partnership they’ve agreed to, and the off-the-charts chemistry between them, be enough to see them through the rigors of training and secure them the win of their lives?

Cody Garrison needs a female partner for the last race to qualify for the Iditarod. He doesn’t need to place, just finish, but race rules say the 2-person teams must be co-ed. He waited too long to partner with any of the local mushers, and they’ve paired up with more experienced mushers anyway. His last resort is a classified ad in the hopes of finding someone he can train.
Juliet Sanderson needs a subject for her study on the connection between sled dogs and their musher. As a veterinary student in her final year of school, she has only a short time to find a replacement before she loses her fellowship. The classified ad her best friend finds seems like the perfect fit, but she isn’t sure he will want to be studied if he is really looking for a race partner.
A last ditch effort for both of them turns out to be exactly what they didn’t know they were looking for.
This turned out to be more than I expected. Stemming from a classified ad, I was sort of expecting light and frivolous. But Cody has a lot going on that makes him a more dynamic character than just a dog sled racer. He keeps to himself, and chose Nome, Alaska partly for the fact that it is a small town that he could hide in. but has such a backstory that his reasoning for being nervous about Juliet’s arrival is so understandable. He is awkward and a little brash when she first arrives, which makes first impressions negative. He lacks confidence when it comes to his physical impairment, which causes even more tension between them when Juliet finds his secret.
Juliet was an equally interesting character. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I was going to like her in the beginning. She seemed like a rather naive college student getting mixed up with a professor, but I grew to love her dedication to the animals, her sensitive nature, and her willingness to do what needed to be done.
The major reason this wasn’t a full 5 star read for me was the speed at which they solve all their problems at the end. It felt a little rushed, especially with a few of the more emotional moments that happen towards the end. But I also loved those epilogues. The final one, in the form of a newspaper article, described everything I could have hoped for this pair.
This was one of those books that caught me by surprise. I read it in nearly one (longer) sitting because once I was pulled into it, I didn’t want to put it down. Juliet and Cody had me rooting for them as they raced, and cheering as they worked through geography, careers, and differing ideas of what the future looked like. Though there are only 2 standalones so far in this series, this is by far my favorite of the two and will be hard to outdo, but I can’t wait to see who else will be impacted by an ad in the Odds-Are-Good personal (or classified!) sections.
I received this book from the author for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Heart-breaking because of his lack of self-esteem due to his disabilities from being in the Marines. To live so many years alone and without love from a human was so sad…but such a great page-turner with the building of their love and his confidence. I’ll have to read this again. This reminds me of The Vixen and the Vet, which also involved a disfigured vet and a love. Both are great!! I’d give this 10 stars if I could
I loved this book! Juliet is in here last year of vet school and was planning on shadowing a dog sled team for her dissertation. The person she plans on following is no longer available. When she goes to tell her advisor, who she is sleeping with, she walks in on him and another woman. Instead of giving up, she changes advisors, and answers an ad for joining a coed sled team in Nome Alaska. Cody is an ex marine who was honorably discharged from the army after an ied left him disabled. He has been hiding from the world in Nome and has one goal, win the Iditarod. In order to enter, he has to finish a qualifying race. His last chance this year is the Qimmiq coed team. He places an ad in The Odds are Good magazine, and Juliet responds. I loved Cody! He is wounded on the inside and the outside, but is such a good person. Keep a Kleenex handy, you will need it.
Omg Cody will definitely give you all the feels. Cody is a character that you will instantly love. His story is heartbreaking at first but meeting Juliet turned it all around. Cody & Juliet are absolutely amazing together and I loved every minute of there story. Another phenomenal read that had me hooked. Can’t wait too read the next book in this series.
I adored this book! The characters were relatable, the story line unique, the conflict heartbreaking, and the love story absolutely beautiful!
Fun! Katy Regnery can give such realistic reads with so much fun! And her spin-off of fairy tales is always such a treat! Her ability to mix opposites so they attract and draw you in is simply the best.
Cody has exiled himself from the real world. His military service has left him a rather broken man, mentally as well as physically.
Juliet just wants to learn from experience all while securing her life as a veterinarian.
This is a story of redemption and finding love. Of taking chances and surviving the outcome. Of learning to forgive one’s self. Of learning to trust someone else.
The sweetness, the humor, and the tenderness makes this a five-star read, but when isn’t Katy a five-star read?
This was such a beautiful story.
Cody was looking for a female sled dog racing partner. Juliet decides that she needs to get away and also still needs to work on her college assignment. Why not kill two birds with one stone? What happens when Cody and Juliet get more than they bargained for? Will they be able to overcome their differences and also find out if they can make their love last the distance between them?
This book pulls at your heart strings and keeps you reading until the very end. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Odds-Are-Good series.
Oh, My Heart! This book just squeezed the life out of my heart. Katy Regnery knows how to write the most loving and adorable characters. Cody and Juliet’s story was cute funny and an emotional sled ride that will have you wanting more. Who knew that an ad in a magazine/newspaper would bring two people so much love. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Katy Regnery has truly mastered this crazy unique and super romantic Alaskan series!!! This 2nd installment of the “Odds Are Good” series features up-and-coming musher, Cody Garrison a/k/a “Nomeo,” seeking his own “Juliet” to be the female half of the number team to face in the Qimmiq dogsled race in Nome, Alaska. Juliet Sanderson, veterinary student in the final stages of her doctoral studies, believes her having the chance to study ” Nomeo” and his sled-team, would provide the ideal paper for her. What awaits her in Nome is a very broken, lonely, determined Cody. Their meeting starts out awkwardly, but as they create a routine with 19 sled dogs to train for the rigorous race, what they begin to learn about each other simply falls naturally into a deep, emotional bond. Ms Regnery describes the growing feelings this couple have for each other with such warmth, natural-ness and depth, that I call into the story 100%. With not one but 2 epilogues, you get every ingredient in the best love story you could have!!!!
A beautiful and emotional read. This series is so good.
Cody is a broken veteran that needs a female partner for an dog sled race.
Juliet is looking to complete her study and graduate vet school.
What ensues is a wonderful story of acceptance and unconditional love.

Katy Regnery
Phenomenal! Outstanding! Very well written! Sucked me in until the very last page! So much in love with the characters!
“Holding each other tightly, we ride out our shared bliss together: two unlikely halves of a perfect whole, two wandering souls now bound by new love.”
Recommend this wonderful book!
I call this The Vet and The Vet. Review is at maidamalby.com
Oh my heart! This story completely captured me. It was beautiful, sensitive, tender, and just so heartwarming. And, let’s not forget sexy!
“Doesn’t she know how dangerous it is for a beautiful woman to be sweet to a guy like me?”
Cody Garrison is an ex-Marine who lives a quiet life in Nome, Alaska. He’s a rookie but ambitious musher and is in need of a female partner for the Qimmiq 200 race. When his classified ad is answered by a seemingly ideal woman, he almost can’t believe his luck.
“I want to be the woman who lets him know that he’s beautiful…that all of him…is beautiful.”
Juliet Sanderson is in her final year of her veterinary degree and has won a grant to write a dissertation for a fellowship. When her plans fall through, the classified ad is almost the answer to her prayers.
“Our attraction is a living thing, connecting us through currents of energy that I can almost touch.”
What a wonderfully written and moving novel! I absolutely adored it. I felt pretty emotional reading it, as Cody took up space in my heart almost from the start. I felt so much for him and his loneliness. I was in awe of him and all that he was capable of achieving in spite of his disability. What I loved most of all was his connection with Juliet. They got off to a less-than-stellar start but once Juliet realised certain things about him, she was completely on board to start over. I loved the attraction and chemistry between them but I loved the deeper understanding and desire that grew between them. They were honest and open with one another, even though they both had doubts. Their relationship was just stunning and heartmelting. Juliet brought so much into Cody’s life and opened his world up again to possibilities that he thought were closed off to him forever. Can’t wait to read more from this author and this series.
This is the second book in this new series from Katy Regnery and I am loving this series and I have to be honest this is my favourite so far.
This book is about our hot Veteran Cody who is a bit broken mentally and physically. He is loving a secluded life in Alaska with his dogs until he decides to enter his dogs in a sledding race but he needs a female partner so he places and add in the local paper. Juliet is a fourth year veterinary student.
I loved Cody and Juliet together, they were perfect for each other, they are so open and honest with other and the chemistry is off the charts hot,
Katy did a great job of mixing the emotional along with steam in this one and I cant wait to read more from this series
Be still my heart . This is definitely my favorite, so far, in the series. Our little Nome-o… he just made my heart melt every time.
It’s so easy to melt for the sexy guy with all the muscles the eyes can see. All the swagger one could hope for. And the suave confidence one would expect. That wasn’t Cody. All for that reason alone, he is more memorable and more favorited to me. Cody had a lonely life-even before his military service, so living a secluded life in Nome was easy for him. He’s broken on a level very few see or understand. But when Juliet answers his ad to help him fulfill a dream of entering the sled dog races, she opened up his world SO much. She showed him hope. And hope was something he never allowed himself to feel. Her sweetness and acceptance made it easy for him to accept that his solitary life may not be his destiny after all.
Cody and Juliet’s story was so sweet. Their love was one that snuck up on them and was as pure as the Alaskan snow. My heart…feels so much joy from that happy ending I just experienced.
Katy Regnery outdid herself with this story. I’m sitting here in awww of the feelings I’m still left feeling after that wonderful story.
NOME-O SEEKS JULIET is book 2 in Katy Regnery’s new series: An Odds-Are-Good Standalone Romance. There will be 5 books with each featuring a different couple. That means Five Alaskan men seeking a woman to be his own. The books start with the ad from the magazine: The Odds-Are-Good. Here is this books ad:
NOME-O SEEKS JULIET “MUST LIKE DOGS”
Musher. Fit. Single. 34. Retired military, honorably discharged. I’m looking for a woman to race with me. Training available.
Juliet (Yes, that is her real name) Sanderson, from Missoula, Montana, is a veterinary student in her final year of study. As one of her final papers, she wanted to shadow a professional musher and then write a study on the relationship between sled dogs and their owners. There was a musher that was allowing her to stay with him and follow his interaction with his dogs. But has to cancel after suffering a sudden stroke. Then to make matters even more dire, she walks in to find that her professor/boyfriend was having sex with another student. She decides right then that she will take a chance on the ad, and seek out the Nome-O in Rome, Alaska. After all his ad was in the classified and not in the personal section.
Cody Garrison, a retired U.S. Marine, doesn’t tell Juliet that he was permanently left with a disability from his time in service. She hasn’t told him that besides coming to Alaska to learn to race. That she is there to study him and his interaction with his dogs. They have a lot of baggage to overcome. Yet, they both have a lot of love to give. One broken solitary man, and one caring warm hearted young woman find each other. They just have so many things standing in their way, that they must overcome.
The first book I read by Katy Regnery, was THE VIXEN & THE VET. I loved that book so much and made me a fan of her writing ever since. NOME-O SEEKS JULIET gave me the same vibes. Cody & Juliet’s connection is so strong. You will be cheering for them to beat all the odds. Oh, the writing:
“Sometimes, when I wake up beside him, I’m filled with a sensation so strong, so absolute, I almost feel like I’m a part of him. And I wonder if human beings can forge a bond so intimate, so intense, so fierce that even when your bodies aren’t physically joined together, your heart still beats in his chest, and his breath is the air that fills your lungs.” Sigh!!
If you are a dog lover then this is another reason to read this book. You learn the name & personality of all nineteen of his dogs. And it has the guaranteed HEA ending like all of Katy Regnery’s books. Highly Recommend!
I am LOVING this series of standalones in the ‘Odds are Good’ series from Katy Regnery!
Nome-o seeks Juliet was just lovely. It was romantic, sexy, surprising, and hugely heartwarming!
Cody and Juliet were perfect for one another. Although due to Cody’s military past, he’s reluctant to open up to Juliet. He has battle scars in more ways than one. In many ways it’s great to read a story where the male MC is the one lacking in confidence.
Juliet is wonderful; her character is kind, caring, compassionate but also incredibly fun!
A story of bravery, determination, working together! Loads of romance, lots of emotion and a wonderful feel-good storyline.
I really should have paid better attention to the GoodReads blurb for this. Because oh man I was so not ready for all the feels. And I do mean ALL the feels. Which is kind of stupid of me since I know how perfectly Katy always mixes the perfect blend of emotions, heat and storyline. But I really didn’t expect to be ugly crying while reading it.
Now before I go any further, yes I cried like a teenage girl, however this book wasn’t sad and depressing. There was a little angst and I was so immersed in the story I am pretty sure I was holding my breath for half of the story. It was bearable angst but I was dying to see how Cody and Juliet were going to get around it.
I adored Juliet so much. She was just perfect and so strong yet so caring and compassionate. And I loved Cody just as much. His story was heartbreaking and yeah he did hide away from the world but I really couldn’t blame him. And although he wasn’t confident he wasn’t wallowing in self pity.
They were such a great couple and the relationship between them felt like it progressed really organically. The whole book was just real and beautiful and even though I know absolutely nothing about dog sled racing I feel like I lived it right along with them.
And having read the teaser for A Fairbanks Affair I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Prepare to cry, at least I did. This was a emotional story that had my heart and mind occupied. I could not find it in me to put this book down. I love this story about a man scarred for life hiding away in Alaska and the women that comes along and wakes him up to life again.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
The characters is well described and developed in to realistic personalities with all their flaws and insecurities.
Juliet and Cody is slowly falling for each other and nearing the end of the book my heart was bleeding for them.
Intense, steamy and emotional love scenes that’s tasteful described helps to build the understanding of their relationship.
If you like a intense romance I give this one 5 stars
This book brought out all my sweet sappy emotions with these two characters and I loved the original premise of the story. Kate did such an amazing job writing these characters and bringing this story to life to give the reader all the feels.
Highly Highly Highly recommend
