The “Odds-Are-Good” that this series is quickly becoming one of my favorites!!
All of the books in the series are standalone. The thing they have in common is a tie in to a personal ad (or classified ad in the case of this book) from someone in Alaska. I think it’s such a clever premise. The titles may be cute and fun, but don’t be confused by that. The books, themselves, are beautifully written stories of how broken or hurting people find one another.
In Nome-o Seeks Juliet, Cody Garrison is a 34 year old military vet living in a rural area of Alaska with nineteen dogs, eighteen of which are being trained to use for sled racing. His ultimate dream is to race in the Iditarod. To do so, he has to qualify in an upcoming race which requires a co-ed team. This leads him to place the classified ad looking for ‘a Juliet’ to come to Alaska and race with him. He isn’t looking for a life partner, just a racing partner – – and truly for one qualifying race only.
Meanwhile, in Minnesota, Juliet is a veterinary student from Montana who thinks this ad might be her saving grace. She was supposed to study and write her project paper on a local musher and his team, but he became sick and that opportunity fell through. In addition, she’s also nursing a bit of a broken heart from a relationship that wasn’t what she thought. All of this leads her to respond to this ad. Soon after, a partnership between the two of them is formed.
Juliet and Cody both have short-term goals in mind when she lands at the Alaska airport. Neither of them forsee the way their lives will connect and come to depend on one another in the short time she spends in Alaska.
I absolutely loved their relationship. Cody was a definite alpha but not in the way we typically think of them. He was the alpha of his “pack.” He was an alpha when it came to Juliet and his feelings for her and his need to protect her. However, it took a while for us to see the alpha side of him because he was injured as a Marine and he has some exterior differences that he is very self conscious of. He initially isn’t sure how Juliet will respond when she meets him. He anticipates everything will be negative because that is what he’s experienced thus far in his life. Fortunately, Juliet is a breath of fresh air because she loves with her whole heart and isn’t influenced by the exterior things. Initially, when they meet, she is saddened for him by what he’s been through but she’s not put off by it. Eventually, she finds she cares for him and when she does it’s because of who he is. She loves the way he cares for his dogs and the person he is within. Of course, let’s not forget, he’s still a good looking man too, that never hurts. As their love grows, you see each of them blossom as individuals as well. They were truly stronger together than apart.
Ultimately, this story shows us how people can set out with very specific goals and learn that life and fate can definitely wreak havoc on those. Sometimes you have to learn to adapt and adjust. If you can succeed at it, sometimes you’ll be blessed beyond words.
Personal Side Note: I absolutely LOVED the second Epilogue!!!
**This ARC was gifted to me by the author. The opinions contained within my review are entirely my own.**
Nome-o Seeks Juliet is the second in a new series from Katy Regnery. It could be a stand alone read but why? Both books are so enjoyable!
Nome-o puts two people together in close quarters who have plans that require the help of each other. Love was not what either planned but that is what they found. But, there are obstacles to getting there HEA.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one day. It’s a fast read with interesting characters plus lots of dogs!! I highly recommend it.
Nome-O Seeks Juliet by Katy Regnery was a wonderful, sweet, slightly angsty story that made me feel all the feels. A vet student and a dog sledder make for a tale with a difference. So much happening. Cody Garrison never expected to find love after he was honorably discharged from the Marines at the age of 21, but more than a decade later when Juliet Sanderson answers his ad for a female assistant for the Qimmiq 200 dog sled race, his world is soon turned upside-down. Friendship, lust and the undying love of canines makes this a unique story. Set in the beautiful, but sometimes harsh Alaskan landscape this story will have you smiling, and crying in equal measure. I truly loved this book and wished it could have gone on for longer. This is a definite One-Clicker whether you’re new to Ms Regnery or a long time fan.
I was not prepared for the blubbering, ugly cry that Nome-o Seeks Juliet let me have. The emotional feels Katy brought to life in these characters doesn’t even begin to describe the ups and downs you will take on this journey. It’s a day later and I’m still tearing up over Cody and Juliet. Nome-o Seeks Juliet is a story that is going to crawl inside your heart and live there.
Cody Garrison is a military vet, living in the outskirts of Alaska with his nineteen dogs. He’s been training his dogs for dog sledding and specifically the one coming up is a co-ed race. His main problem, he doesn’t have a co-ed partner to race with. His secondary problems he doesn’t like to talk about. Nome, Alaska is a small town so he places an ad in the Odds Are Good magazine hoping to reach a wider field. With his play on words he was shocked when a woman named Juliet answers. Call it destiny or fate, but watch out Nomeo your life is about to change.
Juliet Sanderson is in her final year of veterinary school. For her fellowship she is supposed to write a study on the relationship between sled dogs and their owners. Her initial contact fell through so when she sees Cody’s ad looking for a sledding partner she responds. Cody may not be a known name the mushing field and she may not exactly have sledding experience, but spending time with him and his dogs learning is better than not submitting a paper at all. Taking destiny by the horns, off to the middle of No-Where-Alaska she goes for the experience that changes her life.
Nome-o Seeks Juliet is such a beautiful story. The human nature of wanting to love and be loved radiates off the pages. Katy Regnery, thank you for the ugly crying and beautiful heartfelt moments. I loved this book more than I can possibly say!
Another sad love song turns into an unforgettable romance. Regnery has done it again. Nome-o Seeks Juliet is a diamond in the rough, waiting to be explored. Cody and Juliet are as different individually as they are perfect for each other. He’s faced down dangerous situations, heartbreaking losses and personal tragedies. She’s looking to have an adventure. Adventure comes with some cuddleworthy heartbreakers, terrifying truths and a surprising turn of events that will inspire the risk taker in your soul. Take a chance on this thrill of the heart. You won’t be disappointed.
