As featured in USA Today’s “Happy Ever After” blog–a sparkling, suspenseful mixture of Gothic romance and romantic comedy from the Daphne du Maurier Award-winning author of With This Curse and Sea of Secrets!
Vivacious actress Sybil Ingram looks forward to a life of security when she leaves the theater to marry a wealthy American. But when he dies suddenly on their wedding night, she finds … on their wedding night, she finds herself a penniless widow. Her only legacy is Brooke House, a Gothic revival manor in the wilds of the Hudson River Valley. However, the eerie mansion comes with two tenants. One is a hostile ghost. The second, and far worse, is former violinist Roderick Brooke—the most insolent, dangerous, maddeningly gorgeous man she’s ever met.
As Sybil and Roderick engage in a battle of wills—and wits—she finds herself increasingly drawn to him despite her growing suspicion of a connection between him and the spirit that haunts Brooke House. But soon an even greater threat arises: the mysterious queen of local society, Mrs. Lavinia Dove. For reasons that Sybil can’t imagine, Mrs. Dove is determined to have Brooke House and Roderick for herself… if necessary, by deadly means.
By turns mysterious and moving, sparkling and spooky, Nocturne for a Widow follows a spirited heroine through adventures in life, love, and death. From the colorful theatrical world of late-Victorian London to the American wilderness, Sybil’s travels will test her mettle–and her heart.

A very entertaining read.
So so book. Not great, but, not terrible either.
I liked the way the story was told and look forward to read the next book in the series.
A delightful read.
Loved it.
Such a typical cast/plot/etc. at only 1% in. Sad.
This book was fairly predictable. But it was a quick read and entertaining.
I liked the book a lot and thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Loved this book! Had a wonderful mixture of intrigue, suspense, romance, fascinating characters to make it interesting all thru the story. Enjoyed all the twists and turns as well.
While some of the story was predictable, I enjoyed the setting and character interaction. The story deals with period preconceived notions and how they may be partially correct which, in turn, points out human frailty. Nicely done.
This book starts out great with a great heroine and has a good story but then fizzles into a predictable story line and becomes more of a romance than a mystery. It is a good book for filling some time if there is nothing much else going on.
I enjoyed this book, reading with an eagerness to find out the final outcome. As a musician myself, the parts pertaining to music were also enjoyable.
